Constantly packed in the morning, 6/18/2012

Constantly packed in the morning, marina dwellers flock here for polenta side & breakfast pizza. Outdoor seating is great for ppl watching more

I'm definitely recommending Rose's Cafe to all my friends. 4/1/2009

My girlfriends and I have made a pact that from now on, this restaurant is our new ""girl's night out restaurant"". It's the type of place with waitstaff who are so very accommodating to let us squeeze in 2 more people after some friends joined in the last minute (after I called one on her cell about the menu items). We were delighted to have such a great restaurant in our neighborhood too since the restaurants in this area are a bit lacking, to say the least. I'm definitely recommending Rose's Cafe to all my friends. Pros: Example: best croissants in town Cons: What are the drawbacks? more

The best breakfast in Cow Hollow 10/27/2008

Cow Hollow has some amazing restaurants but Rose's Cafe is top 5 for me. If you want an amazing breakfast, you have to try this restuarant! You must order a large latte and drop in a couple sugar cubes. The breakfast pizzas are delicious and so are the fresh baked goods. You should always bring a friend to share with....get a bunch of things to split. Great, great food. more

Really Freakin' Dissappionting 5/20/2007

Funny to read reviews that say ""you won't be disappointed"". SO not true. A party with more people that came after us was seated before us, service was slow & a little inattentive, it took over 30 mins for the food to arrive, the food wasn't as described on the menu when it arrived, they tried to correct it and still sucked. Just an overall disappointing experience and I will make an effort to NOT return in the future. more

Good food 4/26/2007

This is one of my top restaurant. I like the comfortable sofa and the bar area. They have really tasty salad and salmon sandwich is my favorite. My mom likes their pasta. my husband love thier pizza. This is a place that you can take somone there and they would not disappointed. Pros: they have nice outside sitting, friendly for kids Cons: hard to get parking sometimes more

Decent Food, but Overpriced 2/27/2007

Overall, it was a pleasant experience -- but I can't say it ranks high on repeat value b/c the food is overpriced. We went for dinner on a Friday night. To our surprise (and that of the hostess'), we were able to get seating without reservations. The service was great and the setting was friendly (although not recommended for a group larger than ~6), but neither of us were impressed with the food. It's around Filmore, where there are other nearby options. With the exception of checking out their brunch on a nice day for outside seating, I'd probably go to another place. Pros: Friendly and Pleasant Service, Cozy yet Chic Ambience Cons: Food for the Price, Overpriced more

Terrific breakfast pizza that's worth the wait 2/24/2007

And wait you will, if you go during prime brunch hours. If you're willing to sit down outside, you may sit more quickly, however, so put on your warm jacket and head to Rose's. I love the pizza with the fontina cheese, soft boiled eggs, and smoked ham. The soppresata & arugula one is tasty, too, if you like spicy, peppery food. Yum. Pros: Pizza, Steiner St outdoor tables are cozy and quiet Cons: long waits to sit down during brunch, noisy inside more

fresh squeezed orange juice 11/29/2006

Not a lot of selection, but their food is still great. We had the spinach/prosciutto dish and the new potato hash... they were both excellent. There was a bit of a wait, so just get there early. Cons: a little pricey more

Wonderful food, sit outside if you can 11/17/2006

I love this neighborhood spot, usually packed but not a long wait. Outside there are heating lamps and romantic, cozy lighting. Great spot for a date or catching up with a friend. Inside can be noisy however. And you can't come here without ordering the foccacia. It is simply amazing, you will crave it for weeks afterwards. more

Great Place to Bring Out of Towners, Perfect for a Light Meal 10/31/2006

Another winner on Union Street. One of the best places to bring out of towners - the food is good, the menu changes regularly, the wine list is large enough to be interesting and on weekday afternoons, a glass of wine is half price. This is a great place to wind down a Saturday or Sunday afternoon with a glass of wine and some olives. It's also a nice place to meet someone for an informal business lunch. And it's a nice place for an informal dinner before a movie, after shopping, or anytime you want great food in a pretty setting. Parking can be tough, though they've got valet parking at dinner. Pros: wonderful sandwiches and pizzas, pretty room, good wine list Cons: parking is tough more

Very Disappointing 8/16/2006

I've seen the crowd outside on the weekend, so i took 3 out-of-town guests there for dinner. It was my first (and last) time there. The wait staff was not attentive to our table, the menu was extremely limited (4 entrees??give me a break) and the taste was just ok. I was embarrassed to have taken my friends there and disappointed in the entire affair. It's beyond me why they have crowds. Cons: other than the food and the service???? more

An obvious choice for brunch 8/10/2006

I ate here a few weeks ago and was pretty impressed. The salmon pizza was recommended and was great- very fresh, but the bread on which it was served was too tough to cut through. I liked the flavor and didn't shy away from sawing through, but it could have been doughier. I had a delicious iced coffee as well and the wait staff was super friendly. Pros: An obvious Marina brunch choice Cons: An obvious Marina brunch choice more

Not enough food for the price! 6/30/2006

We've eaten at Rose's for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and we've found the food to be decent BUT the portions are too small! When you get to the end of the meal, and you're still trying to fill yourself with bread, it tells you something. With all the wonderful restaurants in the Marina, we're surprised this one does as well as it does. Overrated! more

Great place for breakfast 5/21/2006

This is a great place for breakfast, you have to try the breakfast pizza, Awesome! Pros: Food, Service Cons: Parking, waiting more

Not worth it 2/23/2006

My friends and I ate there the other night and were surprised how mediocre the food was and way overpriced. The only fish for the evening was fried cod, served with mashed potatoes for $24! We tried it thinking the chef must be doing something special with it. Nope, it was a small portion and super bland. They won't allow substitutions, the pasta was so undercooked it was crunchy, and the service made several mistakes (although she was very nice). With so many great restaurants in this city to choose from that are not overpriced and have amazing chefs, don't waste your money here. Pros: service nice Cons: poor chef more

Overpriced 1/24/2006

I want to like this place because I live in the neighborhood. Unfortunately, it is extremely overpriced--not sure why a small neighboorhood restaurant thinks they can charge $23/plate. That being said, the 1/2 price wine happy hour from 4:00 to 6:00 is fantastic. It's great to sit outside, have a glass of vino and share a few appetizers (the mussels are fantastic). The salmon cozy for lunch in delicious. Pros: great ambiance Cons: overpriced more

Pretty good food. 9/18/2005

We came here for lunch. The salmon cozy was delicious. The pizza was quite big and not especially good, though certainly acceptable. The hot tea was good, but the fruit drink left a bit to be desired. The service was acceptable but not particularly attentive. Pros: Reasonably Priced more

Great Hash 6/25/2005

As a single diner, this is a great place to grab brunch. I just ask to be seated at the counter. The orange juice is tasty, and I keep going back for the hash. They mix it up so somedays it's corn beef and hash, and other days, it could be a vegetarian fair with a mushrooms. It's delicious! The service is hit n miss but most times, the waitress is fast and efficient just usually not very attentive. Pros: Hash, Good breakfast crowd, colorful decor more

Worst service ever! 5/23/2005

The waitress argues with you. We had to go to the front several times to get our order and even our check. The food is way over-priced and it didn't exactly match what the menu said. I think it gets away with it because of the location and appealing to the yuppie crowd! Pros: nice outside seating Cons: bad service, overpriced more

Great pasta spot 4/4/2005

I've had dinner at both Rose's Cafe and its big sister, Rose Pistola, and I have to say that Rose's Cafe wins by a landslide. It's intimate, and I much prefer the California-influenced cuisine. Plus it is a much better value. Pros: Value Cons: Parking, Crowded more
