Good Irish Fare 9/3/2006

I had a gift certificate for Rooney's so I went with my fiance for the first time last week. I personally like the ambiance at O'Shea's downtown better (smaller, more quaint) but whatever. The service was decent, although it wasn't that busy, so really, how bad could it have been? (I retract; I've experienced worse when places were almost dead.) We ordered the fish and chips which came out really, steaming hot -- quite tasty -- and the shepherd's pie. The portion's were bigger than we expected (always nice) so we ate the fish and chips and took the rest of the shepherd's pie home so I could have it for lunch at work. I heated the shepherd's pie in the microwave for about a minute and then popped it into the toaster oven for a few minutes to crisp up the mashed potato. *Yuh-mee!* That was the best left over meal I had in awhile! It was too large of a portion for me to eat myself but it was so good I couldn't stop! lol Cost is moderate and like most Irish pubs/restaurants, it's casual attire. It's kind of sports-minded, which is why I like O'Shea's better. But if you live in the western communities I think this is a great place to get your Irish food fix. I would probably go again if I was out that way. more

Not my favorite place... but willing to give it another try 8/28/2006

Okay, I went here for the first time last week with a gift certificate. I took my two kids, ages 3 and 2. I ordered the tuna salad sandwich and ordered the chicken fingers and fish & chips for the kids. My daughter usually loves F&C, but took one bite and wanted her brother's chicken. I tried her fish and no wonder! Itwas like rubber! Totally overcooked... just nasty! They devoured the chicken, though and nibbled on a few fries. My tuna sandwich also had issues. I asked for lightly toasted... they brought me very stale. Not good. My server (god bless her patience) brought me new bread (I requested untoasted this time) and she replaced the funky fish with another order of chicken. Since I had a GC and needed to spend the face value, I ordered a cheeseburger to go for my hubby. He said it was great! So, 2 out of 4 meals were great. One was mediocre and the other was just plain rude. The pricing seemed very reasonable, though. Even though I didn't have the greatest food experience, at least the staff was pleasant and very accommodating. I would definitely give it another chance. more
