Robins has blown a good thing! 5/24/2010

I have been coming to Robin's BBQ for years. Just about a year or so ago me and my family came back for Ribs after having not been there in a while. This restaurant used to have the best Ribs around for many years but this particular night we came in (they were very friendly as usual) they asked us how we liked our Ribs and that they wanted our opinion on them when we were finished with dinner. This was the first time that the taste of the Ribs were almost too salty to eat and my Mother-in Law agreed that they were different and had a salty and strange dryness with lack of flavor that they never had in the past. When we were done the Mgr came over and asked us our opinion we told her it had a different flavor and she informed us that they had been fooling around with the recipe for the rub that goes on the ribs and that it was new. She then was so excited about the fact the Restaurant had acquired new cooking equipment, quite expensive I might add. She took us back to their very back kit more

Robins is OK by me 1/27/2010

Robins is OK! We've coming here for years. Pretty good Barbecue--- maybe not world class-- but for a neighborhood restarant it is good. For the most part we get good service, obviously avoiding certain "rush" times. It can get very noisy at times. (And seriously, who cares about the memorabilia.) more

if you don't like it, get your tastebuds checked! 1/26/2010

I really can't believe that anyone can post a bad review. I saw the bad review about the salad and chuckled. Perhaps a rib joint may not be the best place to get a salad? Duh! Anyway! Great ribs (and all other food I tried), great management, great service! May not be the best place for a vegetarian, although the pecan cole slaw and the muffins are incredible! more

Horrible Food 1/23/2010

I ordered the onion rings and Greek salad to go. When I got home there was no salad dressing; it cost $12.95 and was mostly just a lot of iceberg lettuce. The onion rings were soggy, greasy, cold and limp. I cannot remember having a salad which was so bad. I guess most people who eat here don't come for the salad. Cons: Eating here more

Excellent All The Way! 1/20/2010

My wife and I found Robin's in the AAA Westways magazine. Being a BBQ lover & a foodie by nature, I am hard to please. Robin's hit the target for me. The atmosphere is fun and casual. The food is plentiful and an absolute bargain! You must try the blueberry muffins and the blue cheese coleslaw. MUST HAVES! Also, definitely have the potato skins with tri-tip on top. There is NOTHING better! Pros: Great Food - Great Prices! more

Just OK 1/2/2010

The atmosphere is fun, lots of interesting memorabilia to look at. The service was excellent! Our waiter was attentive & friendly. Started off good w/ blue cheese cole slaw and blueberry cornbread w/ blueberry butter. Sounds weird right? But it's good! Unfortunately, I can't say the same for the entrees. We were a group of about 5 so we got to try a little of everything. The BBQ sauces were just ok, we had all 4 that they offer. The hot link was good, chicken & tri tip was dry, and beef back ribs didn't exactly fall off the bone. I think the spareribs & baby back ribs were probably the best out of everything. Bill came out to about $20 ea (including tx & tip). With that in mind, I think we'll stick to BBQ places closer to home. Pros: Yummy blueberry cornbread! Cons: Overcooked & dry more

Pros: BEST IN TOWN BBQ more

DEFINATELY THE BEST BBQ WE'VE HAD IN YEARS 11/12/2009

We love Phillip's on Crenshaw and Woodys on Slauson but for all around atmosphere, service, music and damn good BBQ we head over the hill to Robin's. The meat is just so damn good. It's really gone up several notches since they build that smokehouse in the back lot. The mgr gave us a tour and it's awesome. No propane, no gas just pure apple & oak wood for smoking. The garbage can combo is our fav for sampling everything they do. The music selection is vintage oldies from the 60's, the place looks like a musuem for beer signs and the service has always been top notch. Worth the 18 mile drive. Pros: Wood burning smoker, well smoked meats, Pabst & Shiner on ta Cons: Occasional long waits on weekends, closed on Monday & Tuesda more

I knew it would be great. 10/21/2009

When I drove into the lot I knew this was the place. I could see and smell the sweet apple and oak coming out of the smokestack in the back smokehouse area. I found a nice smoke ring on my Tri tip and Baby back ribs and both were tender as well. This BBQ is as good as it gets and better than some in my home state of Texas. Pros: Apple & Oak Wood for smoking, Shiner Bock on tap Cons: Closed on Monday, no Monday Night football more

Robin's Wood Fire BBQ & Grill is Great 8/26/2009

By far, not to be disputed...the best BBQ pork sandwitch. Of course one mus t put their mustard sauce on it to complete the brilliance. When you walk in the decor reminds you of roadhouse sheek. more

Incredible Beef Ribs & Tri Tip 8/7/2009

Robin's does it right, Texas style in flavor and attitude. We took our relatives from Austin, TX for BBQ at Robin's based on feedback here and they knocked it out of the park. The mgr even gave us a tour of the smokehouse and prep area. We watched to cook mop on a mustard slather before he rubbed all of the meat with some sweet and peppery spices. He also show us the smoker. This is a real deal Texas smoker that doesn't use gas or propane, just apple and oak wood. Pretty cool. We had never scene the back of a restaurant like this and it was a treat. Bottom line, the Tri Tip had a salty peppery rub that complimented the smoky flavor perfectly. It was as tender as a filet. The Beef Ribs were the unnotched kind, more meat than bone, tender and great with the mad dog sauce. Cold Pabst and Shiner Bock on tap and Lone Star in a bottle made us all feel like we were in Texas. The blue cheese pecan cole slaw was different but great and the blueberry cornbread was sublime. Best BBQ weve had in So Cal. Worth every mile of the trip from Long Beach to Pasadena. Pros: Huge portions of well smoked BBQ, Tasty bark on the Ribs & T Cons: Closed on Monday more

Smokehouse addition puts them over the top 3/1/2009

I've been eating at Robin's for years and have watched for over a year the construction of their new Smokehouse built behind the restaurant. The ""Q"" has always been top notch but now it's sublime. Robin says that the smoker was built in Texas and has no gas connection and that it works only with wood. The new rubs are great and sauce really is only needed if you like it that way. Tasty deep pink smoke rings on everything and the beef has a peppery rub that I taste hours later at home, really good stuff. I could go on and on but it's worth the drive for us from the Valley. Pros: On-site smokehouse, well rubbed meats, mad dog bbq sauce Cons: there isn't a Robin's in the west Valley. more

Best BBQ & Best BBQ bargain in So Cal 2/23/2009

We took the family to Robin's for some ribs and the server talked me into trying the all u can eat Rib Tips. They are served on Wednesday & Sunday nites and they were great. They were smoky, tender and sauced with their Mad Dog sauce. For $12.95 it was a steal. I had a re-order and was stuffed. They don't allow doggie bags on the special so you have to eat them or leave them. The server was upbeat, the music was great and the place rocked. With 4 in our party the price was right and the BBQ was fabulous. Will recommend this place for families and for BBQ. Pros: All you can eat Rib Tips, well smoked BBQ, kid friendly Cons: Closed on Monday more

Love it! 2/9/2009

Robins is great! The menu has a huge selection, so if you're not that keen on BBQ you can still find something. The ribs can be a little pricey though, but overall this place is pretty affordable. Great atmosphere. Waiters are friendly. I've never waited more than 5 mins for a table. more
