I was really excited to try Bacco, having lived in Noe Valley forever and hearing great things about it. My initial reaction was great - the ambiance is very nice. However, our ...

Good food, good portions, a little pricey, and very high corkage fees. 6/19/2008

I had a very good meal.. The portions were actually sized for hungry humans. The salad was extremely fresh, and my entree was very good. I ordered a steak, which was a little over-cooked, but I blame myself for ordering ""medium"". Generally. ""medium"" at most places means somewhat red. Not here. In spite of that, the meat was very favorful and tender - good quality. My ony complaint was the corkage fee. I went to dinner with a friend who works at a very high-end winery in Napa, and always brings great wine. We were charged $22 corkage for one bottle. That is the highest I've seen anywhere. I think that's out of line, but other than that, I though it was very good. A little pricey, especially with the corkage fee. We each had one appetizer and an entree, and the wine. No desserts, no other bevergaes, and the bill was $100 before tip. $50 per head for salad and entree seems high to me. Pros: Good food. Very polite service. Charming ambience. Cons: Slow service, even on a slow night. Outrageous corkage fees. more

food and wine, great service and nice decor 6/30/2007

Best burrata around (better than A16) so fresh it melts in your mouth. Good risotto if prepared by the Italian chef(changes every month). Yes the waitress a real Venetian (not like mentioned by Zagatt that the waiter might fake the accent,by the way Zagatt gave a 2006 award to Bacco). Great homemade bread, I love their tagliata angus in balsamic reduction...if you love meat go for it. My favorite dessert is the flavorless cake.Love the ambiance and the service. Bacco is one of my favorite Italian restaurant in town Pros: fresh ingridients, best burrata Cons: maybe parking more

Bacco is one of my favorite Italian restaurant in town Updated review. I brought a bunch of hungry Italians on a Wednesday night and we all ordered the truffle risotto (26$ each). It was so disappointing, mushy, overcooked and tastless. I guess the owner or the italian chef weren't around that night. Hopefully this was the only negative dinner we had there. I always tell everbody how consisten Bacco is... Pros: fresh ingridients, best burrata Cons: maybe parking more

Best Gnocchi Around 2/24/2007

For many years, I used to be neighbors with Bacco. Conveniently located around the corner from my apartment, Bacco was my stop for dinner after work. Now that I live outside of SF, I still make it my food destination when I'm in town. Their gnocchi has been, and continues to be the best. Their lamb ragu is a perfection of stewed meat and tomato sauce. Their salads have always been fresh and creative. Also, their wine list is incomparable with any of the restaurants on 24th Street. Bacco will always be our little diamond on Diamond Street. Pros: Ambiance Cons: Make sure to get reservations, as they get busy in the evenings and weekends. more

Rude service, please don't go 8/24/2006

I lived in Noe Valley for 8 years, ate at Bacco many, many times during my time in SF. The food was always satisfying. After moving away, I recently returned with my wife and 5 year old without reservations and had to stand in line while "regulars" walked past those many in line to occupy the hostess' time, only to be told once they could give us some attention, that they didn't have a table for us. There were at least 15 empty tables when we exprienced all of this. It felt like we were a bunch of tourist at Koi in LA, not returning local regulars. I'd rather eat mediocre food at Buca de Bepo and have smiling service that's inviting than eat ANYTHING at this place ever again. After the thousands of dollars I've spent in this joint, they treated me and my family like we didn't quite work for them. I've eaten all over the US and have NEVER experienced this level of mediocre, inexperienced service. Shame on you, Bacco. Pros: Pork tenderloin with gorganzola sauce Cons: the service more

We (my boss, wife and I while driving around) made reservations and upon our arrival they denied it, telling me I lied. Despite being empty, they refused to seat us. Cons: Rude, Uncomfortable more

Poor service and terrible food! 1/8/2006

It took 10 minutes for a waiter to come take our order. The bread and olive oil was terrible. The pasta w/bolognese sauce was bland. Given this is an Italian restaurant, you would think they would have good bread, olive oil and a simple pasta dish. more

A gem 8/12/2005

This is a trattoria, not a fine restaurant. The food and service are both very good and surpass their North Beach equivalent. I had a special Tuna dish which was perfectly prepared at rare. My spouse hadlamb chops which were a treat, tasting like lamb and not some overly seasoned carne. I started with a caprese stack which was perfect while my spouse enjoyed sauteed escarole. I had to try the salmon carpaccio with fennel. The salmon was good but the fennel did not offset it quite the way I had hoped. The apple puff pastry was a wonderful dessert while the mango/raspberry flan was only very good. For a wonderful dinner, this is fun and worth the trip from downtown. It's not haute cuisine...but the best Italian food rarely is. Pros: Tasty Food, Good Service, Fairly priced Cons: Not centrally located, offputting winelist more

Nice Neighborhood Restaurant Tucked in Noe Valley 6/18/2005

I have been a regular since the opening of this restaurat and frequent it often. The starters are always nice with a good mix of different flavors and the pastas and main courses have always been delicious. The quality is consistent and the deserts are absolutely the best. What I like the best at Baco is the friendly atmosphere and the prompt service. I found the waiters to be very knowledgeable about the menu as well as the wine list. I frequent Bacco often and never hesitate to bring my friends. The Prix Fix is a great value. Pros: Great Food,, wonderful deserts,, prompt service, Cons: parking can be, difficult more
