I went to the Republic of the Rio Grande restaurant when I first moved to the valley in 2004 and LOVED it. The restaurant's decor is very nice and it had a young and hip vibe to ...

Looks great, tastes better! 3/9/2008

At the busy interesection of 10th street and 83 I did not expect easy parking and immediate seating on a Friday night! Prompt but not rushed service by the attentive waiters was so welcome. The quiet classy brick inside and out was instantly relaxing. Stuffed Chile Fritos were an adventurous choice on my part, and I was not disappointed: hand-breaded Anaheim peppers stuffed with goat cheese, cream cheese and chorizo, and fried to a golden brown. Absolutely delicious. Then Desert Fire Pasta (Sauteed Gulf shrimp, angel hair pasta and mushrooms, tossed in a light poblano cream sauce) was a second adventure that paid off. Here were two unique menu items that made you happy you didn't stick to the safe steak, burger or pizza. From beginning to end our dining experience was perfect, both in atmosphere and taste. Our twentieth anniversary is tomorrow but I feel like we started celebrating today. We'll be back when in the area! Pros: Service, Ambience, Parking, Food, Decor, Quiet Atmosphere more

Got violently ill from the seafood enchiladas. It was a nightmare! 2/21/2007

Spent 12 hours violently ill in the bathroom after dining on the seafood enchiladas. Ended up spending over $200 to postpone a flight and another $100 for an extra night in the hotel because I was so sick. more

One of the BEST! 3/26/2005

This is one of the best places to dine in the Rio Grande Valley. The food is always excellent as is the service. The stuffed pepper appetizer and the enchiladas are amazing. If there is one place I want to eat every weekend, it's here! Pros: Inexpensive, Great Food, Kid Friendly Cons: Can be crowded more

A meal of appetizers. 10/6/2004

This week I went for my regular lunch but decided to sample the appetizers. It was a good choice on my part. The fried mushrooms were large and the serving was generous. Not overcooked, the mushrooms were still fresh tasting, coated with a piquant breading. Accompanied with a cilantro ranch dressing, it was perfection. The guacamole was zesty without being overpowered by onion and garlic. The tortilla chips were thin and crisp. Pros: Good parking, Great service, Friendly staff more
