Hair cuts are very good there but unless you want bleach blond hair, regardless of your request, than this is not a salon for you. 3 visits and 8 hours later, I walked out with ...

Cool downtown vibe, great hair and friendly staff. 7/11/2012

I have been going to this salon for 6 years now since I moved to NYC. I love my hair stylist David Cotteblanche! He totally understands me and makes me feel TRES CHIC when I leave. I love the new location and is so convenient. The staff is friendly and has a good vibe. I would recommend this place to everyone. Pros: late hours more

Best hair ever! 4/16/2012

I have never been happier with a cut and a color before. I went the other night for partial highlights, deep conditioning, cut and blowout. I had a groupon and it said it would be ""senior- level"", so I made sure to let them know this when I booked the appointment. The groupon cost $119, but when I researched the reviews it seemed like it would be worth it. It was my birthday so I told myself to splurge. I made the appointment for Thursday, but called on Tuesday to see if they could accommodate me on Wednesday evening, and they could. Yay! Didn't want to spend my whole actual birthday in the chair at the salon. I had to work so they had an appointment for 715 which was perfect. It's hard to find salons that are open so late. Anastasia did my highlights after talking with me about it for a little while. I have red hair and have had a very hard time getting highlights that look natural. Most places do not understand that highlights do not always need to be blonde. I made very clear that I wanted a sun-kissed look with a lighter red, a little coppery strawberry color. I had done a single process myself with a box a few weeks earlier, and I told her so she knew what she was dealing with. She was very nice and although the salon itself has an upscale air about it, everyone was very nice and non- judgmental. I came from work and was wearing scrub pants, sneakers and a t- shirt, but it didn't seem as though anyone even noticed. She told me she wasn't sure how my hair was going to take the color because I had colored my hair, but she said she knew what she wanted to do and she mixed up the color. She used the balayage technique of painting the highlights on and covering them with plastic wrap going through each layer of my hair. I had them done this way once before and this is definitely the way to go. If you have only used foil highlights before then you are really missing out. I got a little nervous because she seemed to cover most of my hair with the color. I was cooking under the heat lamp for about 15 minutes and she came back to look at my hair and told me I needed 15 more minutes. Of course I was worried that my hair was going to be bleach blonde, but her reassurance comforted me. After she rinsed the color, she said that she was going to apply some toner to the ends, because the ends turned out a little bit lighter than she wanted. I stayed at the sink for about 10 minutes and then she rinsed the toner. She applied a gloss and I waited a few more minutes and then rinsed. I'm sure that this probably should have cost extra, because toner and gloss were not part of the groupon, but she did not say a word about that. I sat back in the chair with a wet head and could see that my hair was definitely not blonde, and I could already see the dimension even though it was wet. Awesome! David came to cut my hair. He had already introduced himself to me earlier before my color. I found out later that he was the owner, and he could not have been nicer. I have long hair that is wavey and layered. I told him that I wanted to keep the length and soften the layers. He started cutting, which usually makes me nervous, but I felt like I could trust him. He cut all of the choppiness out of my layers and now I have the most beautiful long layers that all flow together. I could not be happier. And after it was blown out and the layers all have a gorgeous subtle glow of highlights I was overjoyed. My hair has never looked better and I just turned 36. This was the look that I always wanted but was never able to achieve. I will definitely go back and pay the fancy prices because feeling this good is priceless! more

Loveee red market salon 3/20/2012

I recently visited Red Market Salon and my experience there was amazing! I was very happy with the way my hair looks. I have a freah new look and feel ready for spring. I had seen David and will definitately go back to him. I been looking for a good hairstylist and finally found one. He listened to exactly what I wanted and showed me ways I can wear my new look. Now I have a great new style and been getting so many compliments. He was a pleasure to work with and I look forward to seeing him again. more

Worst place to get haircut- do not go!!! 3/10/2012

After getting a GROUPON I went to Red Market salon. I had grown out hair about quarter down my back and wanted to keep growing it out. All I wanted was some light layers but to keep it long. David the owner listened to my 5 minute long explanations on how I wanted my hair and did completely the opposite! He cut my hair so short - it's impossible to style it!! Not just the length of my hair, the haircut itself was horrible, not even close to what I asked for. I was under impression that David never listened to me and ...I was very upset, almost crying. Before I went for the haircut, I read Red Market Salon reviews. There were bad reviews mentioning David and Co., but right after one bad one there were 3 -5 good reviews (you could figure out the pattern easily - I guess, staff tried hard to cover for their boss). I'm not really picky when it comes to my hair and I'm used to trying new places for haircut, but Red Market Salon was my WORST EXPERIENCE ever! Overall, Red Market Salon is overrated place with not -knowing- what- he's- doing owner-stylist David. Do not go. more

the best!!!!!!!!!! I'm so exited for the new location 3/8/2012

he BEST salon in NYC!!!!! My friend recommended this late night salon to me. I always love how her hair looks. She told me to see David and Reynald. It was everything what I expected and more. The manager Stacey greeted me and must of known i had a long day. She offered me a nice glass of wine to unwind. What a treat! My consultation with David with right on. He knew exactly what I wanted. Not to mention he is such a cool guy. He Reynald did my highlights and fixed my color from a previous salon. . This was far one of my Best haircuts! I will definetly be back. Thank you Red Market!! more

stay away from Red Market Salon - new location, same people 3/7/2012

I just visited Red Market Salon. Do not waste your money and time. If you went there - stay away from David Cotteblanche, the owner. After telling him numerous times that I did not want my hair cut short (I specifically said 1/2 inch! just to trim it and to keep the style I had ) David took the scissors, got into that artistic pose and started. Oh my God! I was too stupid to believe that he knew what he was doing!!!By the time I stopped him, he managed to cut off 3 inches of my hair, one side inch longer that the other, disaster. And it was my Bday! My friends couldn't believe somebody who called himself as a hairdresser could do this haircut. I firmly believe that all good reviews were posted by Red Market staff. This Salon will be having new location pretty soon - but again, same people, same hairdressers, same David the owner. more

Really Great 1/26/2012

I heart Red Market 12/17/2011

Finding a good hairstylist is harder than finding a boyfriend in this city so when you find one hold on to him/her. That´s what I did with David years ago. He knows exactly how my hair will react to each snip. I have had so many different looks over the years and David has always been the one to execute my vision. I constantly get stopped by strangers who want to know where I cut my hair or who simply want to compliment me on my cut. I have had short hair for over a year now so I go to Red Market every couple of months and each time it´s a great experience. The staff is super friendly, particularly Stacey, the salon manager. The atmosphere is fun and laid back, which makes you feel at ease the minute you walk in. Whether you want something funky and edgy or something more classic I recommend David - I trust him 100% with my hair. more

Red Market best hair salon 12/14/2011

Miserable is an understatement 12/6/2011

This is the first review I have ever written. It has been 1 month since my haircut with DAVID the owner and I am so unhappy. Miserable to be more exact. I have curly hair and have always gone to Devachan, I should have never left. Anyway, David the owner cut my hair up to my chin and I have curly hair....when it dries its shorter. Anyone should know this. My hair was mid-back length (pretty long) and now its at my chin ( i have to straighten it to make it look semi-normal). Seriously its horrible. The worst botch job ever. Hence, one month later I decided to write a review. I promise you I am not picky when it comes to my hair but this cut was ridiculous. He cut about 8"" off which is insane especially when I did not ask for that. more

A Pleasant Experience 6/18/2010

I was recently a hair model at the salon. Dillion gave me highlights. They came out lovely!! Red Market was the first savvy salon i've been to, and i will SURELY go back. They are extremely meticulous and the services they offer are sincere. I was greeted with a smile from everyone! I went in with no expectations, and after Dillion was done with my hair, I left a happy woman!! Pros: Atmosphere, Customer Service, Technique more

amazing haircolor 6/11/2010

tTis is an amazing salon. it is open late, up to 1100 or 1200 on some days, and is perfect for those who put in lots of time at the office, but still want to have pretty hair. Reynald is am amazing colorist. He knows what hes doing. He doesn't say much , but he works efficiently and the color always comes out beautiful. The receptionist is very friendly and even the assistants are super nice, especially a plus considering this is a New York salon in one of the city's hottest areas. I think the prices are reasonable too. I only paid 150 for single process, plus a couple of highlights and that included blowdry. I think this is a fabulous price considering that Reynald used to work at Frederic Fekkai.I would highly recommend this place to anybody who wants to have beautiful hair in a relaxing setting and not pay an arm and a leg. And after getting all prettied up, you can go for a drink at the Gansevort or dinner at Pastis and show off your glam hair!!. Pros: open late Cons: staff is not chatty more

Stephanie and Krista...NYC's best kept secret!!! 4/28/2010

Red Market is definitely a hidden jewel. The convenience of its late hours is unparalleled. The relaxed and welcoming atmosphere is an unexpected treat in an upscale salon. Upon recommendations, I made an appointment with Stephanie Alexus for a cut and Krista Battaglia fotr highlights. I dont think I could have chosen a better team. They were both incredibly knowledgable and answered my questions with explanations rather than simple yes or nos. Krista does balayage which I had never heard of before but lets just say I dont care to see a foil highlight again in my life. Stephanie's haircut allows my hair to do things I never thought possible. It is no longer a chore to do my hair, I enjoy and know how to do it. This is one secret I have to let out: STEPHANIE ALEXUS and KRISTA BATTAGLIA are the best!!!! Pros: late hours, friendly staff, great location Cons: walkup (but totally worth it!!!) more

hands down best haircut in NYC... 4/9/2010

Due to my late work hours getting a haircut has proved to be a near impossible task, not to mention that when i can squeeze one in the results have been catastrophic. However I have acquired an impressive collection of hats and scarves. I have been all over NYC in search of a decent cut. Is that too much to ask? I have been to many prestigious and reputable salons here in Manhattan and have always left disappointed until now. I found Red Market through a friend and made an appointment with Stephanie Alexus. I went in in desperate need of a cut and well with my past what did I have to lose? Upon meeting Stephanie, I felt instantly at ease. Her consultation was the most thorough I had ever had. She asked me to walk her through my daily hair regimen and asked what I wanted and totally delivered. Along the way she provided me with many helpful tips on haircare and styling. Her knowledge was impressive to say the least and in 45 mins I learned so much about my hair that I walked in hating it and walked out my own biggest fan! I recommend her to everyone that stops me on the street (and yes it happens a lot!) and am so glad i found her!!! Stephanie Alexus @ Red Market is the stylist to see! Pros: late hours, fun neighborhood, wine more

If I could give it 6 stars I would 3/31/2010

I have been looking for a good person to do highlights for years. Finally I asked this woman who had great hair at the nail salon if/where she got her highlights and she gave me the name of her stylist (Reynald). He did an amazing job-honestly gifted- and everyone that worked there was super sweet. Pros: Reynald Cons: not the biggest fan of MPD area more

Great Service! 3/15/2010

I have been to several high end salons in the city and no one has provided me with the satisfaction I received at Red Market. I have been struggling with my hair in regards to cuts and Stephanie changed that! She was so patient and listened to all my concerns. She's took the tinme to educate me on the structure of my hair and what worked and didn't for me. By far she's the best stylist I've had. And her hours are so convenient being that they're a late nite salon! I travel from Jersey to see her and she's absolutely worth it! more

paradise beauty 12/12/2009

Reynald specializes in this freestyle color application process called balayage. I had never heard about it before, but I must say these highlights that he gave me are the most natural looking highlights I have ever had done. I was impressed with the amount of care that he took in applying the color and making sure that the highlights complemented my natural hair color. I am very happy and will be coming back soon! more

Late Night Salon: What an Outstanding Concept! 12/12/2009

My previous stylist moved away, and I struggled for a long time to find someone who could work with my short curly hair. A friend referred me to Red Market where I got the best cut and color ever. Normally I don't color my hair, but Dana had so my ideas and suggestions for how I could bring out some of my facial features with a touch of color. I was looking for something edgy, and punk rock, that I could some how work with during the weekdays when I'm at work and need to look professional. David gave me an amazing versatile haircut! I absolutely love it, and I will recommend both of them to all of my family and friends. Thanks guys! Pros: Best Cut and Color more
