Best

I have never been happier with a cut and a color before. I went the other night for partial highlights, deep conditioning, cut and blowout. I had a groupon and it said it would ...

Worst

Hair cuts are very good there but unless you want bleach blond hair, regardless of your request, than this is not a salon for you. 3 visits and 8 hours later, I walked out with ...

terrific cut and color! 4/23/2007

I really have had some great experiences at Red Market. David's cuts have been consistently edgy but always appropriate for my office job, and Alex does a fantastic job with my color - she always listens to me and does exactly what I ask, but artfully. FANTASTIC!! more

Great color!!! 4/23/2007

I recently tried out Red Market and met the colorist I will be sticking with as long as I am in New York! Alexandra was so friendly and I left very happy with my new color. Lots of people have complimented me on how much they like it and how natural it looks. It is the perfect tone for my skin. Alexandra was professional and gave me amazing service! Thank you Red Market! I will be back soon! I highly recommend Alexandra for color and my overall Red Market expereience was great. Pros: Ambience, Staff, Final outcome of color more

One NOT to miss. 4/23/2007

It's so great to come to a city like New York and still find a salon where your treated like you've been coming there for years. Beside the staff being incredibly talented and diverse, the atmosphere is the best part. I almost want to come back just to sit and talk with everyone! Alexandra, my colorist, gave me the first great color I have had in years. I will be coming back here for a very long time! Pros: besides the great work, the atmosphere Cons: parking, cab it or walk over. more

Confident, understanding....and she LISTENS 4/12/2007

Unable to connect with my stylist of 10 years (in a gotta get a cut NOW moment) brought me to an exceptionally talented artist named Melinda at Red Market Salon. Her understanding, perspective and focus brought an unusual sense of comfort for this 1st time visit. The unexpected ease of my experience was only surpassed by her work. As difficult as it was not having the comfort zone of John (the 10 year man), Melinda was sympathetic to my apprehensiveness. She gave me a cut that was exactly what I hoped for, not her ""artistic interpretation"" or some ""visual statement"" as many stylists take the liberty to do. Not impressed with the vibe, aura, complimentary champagne or attitude of salons like this, it's about the work. I'd get my haircut in a phone booth if the stylist is good.....and if Melinda someday cuts from one, I'll be the guy without the champagne and the big smile. more

Thank God They Are Open Late 4/11/2007

I'm a little embarrassed to admit it, but I had a fashion emergency. After 2 terrible haircuts, I couldn't take it anymore and found Red Market. I couldn't spend another day in a hat. I think their last appointment is usually 10pm and they stayed open for me. As soon as she saw me, she knew immediatley what to do. Thank you Melinda, you made my weekend! Pros: Open Late more

dont do it! 4/3/2007

I think the hairdresser was drinking in the back, my came out terrible! PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR CLIENTS, NOT EACHOTHER! After spending that much on my hair, you would think it was perrrrfffeecctt, nope. very disappointed. more

Good cuts, horrific coloring!! 3/21/2007

Hair cuts are very good there but unless you want bleach blond hair, regardless of your request, than this is not a salon for you. 3 visits and 8 hours later, I walked out with severely damaged and bleached-out hair with stripes instead of hi-lights! They refused to reimburse me and did not even offer a bottle of conditioning treatment for all of the damage that was inflicted! Very disappointing experience. Pros: awesome cuts, friendly staff, relaxed atmoshpere Cons: worst color, long waits more

The Most Upbeat energy and Amazing Color 12/23/2006

I recently visited the salon and saw a girl named Alexandra! To make a long story short, she made my trip to new york (all the way from the south) worth it. She is knowledgble regarding the products and the essence of color. She provided the most successful service that i have had in years. I not only left feeling beautiful, but complete as well. See her as soon as possible! Pros: not once did i feel uncomfortable Cons: i didnt get to stick around longer more

Bad for this 28 year-old downtowner 11/22/2006

I took a chance to try a new salon in my neighborhood. I read reviews here and booked an appointment with the Frederic-Fekkai-trained David. When I got to the salon, David was ""running late"" and I took a seat and waited. 30 minutes later, I'm still waiting, and David has not appeared to even explain or apologise for my wait. Another 15 minutes pass, and I'm ready to leave. Finally, the receptionist tells me to sit in an empty station. Another 10 minutes passes, and no David. The hairdresser next to my station approaches me and says, ""Hi, I'm David....sorry about the wait"". So, I was willing to forgive and forget. I was prepared with pictures from Men's Vogue and some other tearsheets to describe the look I was going for. David went to work, and gave me a very bland short hair cut. He said...'well, that's what you wanted...nothing special"". \r This seems to be a salon that specializes in women's hair straghtening with a blowdry as that was all I saw in the salon, combined with attitude and unprofessional behaviour. No return visits for me. Not worth $75 (+$20 tip). In spite of unprofessional service, I still tip (insert pat on back here). Pros: Nice neighborhood, ample lighting, good reading material and plenty of time to read them Cons: service and skill more

Be Melindanized!!!! 9/13/2006

Melinda has been my hair stylist for years. I was excited when she told she was working in the city at the Red Market Salon. Great location, fun ambiance, great staff and there is no one else like MELINDA. She takes one look at you, and you can see the creativity oozing from her eyes. SHE IS THE ARTIST AND I AM HER CANVAS. I love her work and you will too! more

Yup, Melinda is good! 9/13/2006

I got my haircut 9/13/06 by Melinda and like the previous reviewer I too hadn't had my hair cut in about six months. She suggested a cut that worked well for me but kept my lenght. She's great and very funny. I recommend her for sure! Pros: timely, fast, good quality more

I Love Melinda 9/2/2006

I had my hair cut by Melinda a few months ago. Even though I haven't had a chance to get to the salon, it's growing beautifully and I'm always being complimented on my hair. Melinda is so amazing. I'm a great fan of hers and will follow her wherever she goes. I highly recommend when booking your appointment, ask for Melinda you won't regret it. more

Great cut by Melinda 8/24/2006

I recently got my hair cut at this salon by Melinda. I have been living in NYC for 8 years and have been to the John Barretts, Bumble and Bumbles of the city and have never found anyone as capable as she is. She is also really nice to talk to and very professional - I will definitelly be coming back ehre - or following her wherever she goes. more

late nite highlights 5/4/2006

ask for david or tatiana! the good thing is that they are open late so you can have dinner with friends and then drop in for a cut complete with free champagne. it's in the meatpacking district too so there's lots of energy in the salon and out. Pros: hours, staff, atmosphere more

David is the Best!!!! 3/19/2006

I've gotten my hair cut from David for over 5 years since he worked at Frederic Fekkai. I tried every hair salon in NYC for 2 years to find him. I love getting my hair cut. Now his salon is a little bit far away from me but I can't go any other places because there is no stylist like David in NYC. more

A+ cuts, color, atmosphere, friendliness... 2/25/2006

I followed Reynauld (colorist) to Red Market from an upper east side salon because he is the only colorist in NYC who has consistently given me beautiful highlights...(and he's so sweet). While I had intended on keeping the stylist/cutter who I had been going to for years, I didn't like the idea of going to two different salons...so I tried David. Such a beautiful job. Takes but a few minutes to dry. Pretty, sexy, sporty... easy. Can't imagine going to anyone else. And he too is kind and fun (and sparkly). It's 7 weeks into the cut/color and it all still looks lovely. AND the fact that Red Market is open at night and is stylish yet totally unpretentious makes it so I actually look forward to the ""salon experience"" instead of it being something I endure. A++++++++. more

Great Hair Cut 2/22/2006

I got the best hair cut since I've moved to New York! David is amazing!! Salon is such a fun atmosphere.. and the reception is SO helpful! I highly recommend giving it a try. more

The Most Horrible Haircut 2/4/2006

I can't believe I spent over $100 for the worst haircut ever. The haircut I received makes me look like a member of Duran Duran. It is so unflattering. I would not recommend the Red Market. more

Great Highlights! 2/1/2006

My highlights were the best I've gotten in NYC in 2 years, at a great price. The girl who blew my hair out needed some more training, but I found out she was just out of school, so I'd give her another shot. more
