Pushes all the right buttons 11/15/2002

The most thinking theater in Atlanta. Of the 20 or so theaters in Atlanta that I've been to, I learn more, and have a better time doing it at PushPush. The rest is bland. Pros: talent, quality, inexpensive more

Reign of creativity 5/20/2002

PushPush continually stages interesting works that often push (hence the name?) the boundaries of traditional theater. While the shows aren't always polished to a gleam, they always challenge notions about the constructs of theater. The actors show an infectious enthusiasm for their work and the audience seems to respond. A recent visit to the theater's production of the "Wide Open Beaver Festival" was a special treat. more

  • The Theater
In 1990, local professional actors jump-started PushPush with a series of studio workshops. The collaborators presented plays at 7 Stages, the Shakespeare Tavern and the Hilan Theater before finding their own space in the Floataway Building in 1997. An 80-seat theater, PushPush shares upscale digs with a pilates studio, the Floataway Cafe, small shops, galleries and design studios just minutes northwest of Emory University. It's a tight fit in the small venue, where main stage performances, experimental workshop productions, festivals, artists workshops and youth programming unfold all year long.

    Innovations
Known for its innovative presentations, PushPush has added something new to its repertoire: the popular "Dailies" program, which challenges the theater and film/video communities to collaborate in a series of unique projects. Each show combines Atlanta video producers' interpretation of theatrical scripts, using only found footage, which is then fused with live performance. Screenings take place at PushPush and Bluemilk, an alternative art and performance space on Spring Street in Midtown.
