Bad Food, Bad Service, Bad Time 10/24/2011

Having dined at Restaurant Kevin Taylor I had high hopes for this place that were unfortunately not met. First when we entered we were placed in a table that we did not like, so we politely asked to be moved to one of the many open tables available. The hostess did so but not without attitude. The overall atmosphere of the restaurant was lacking since there were many empty tables and we were there at 7:30 on a Saturday. The service was poor as we had to ask our server to take our drink and dinner order, provide bread and to take our plates away. Finally the food was not good, mediocre at best. I had the scallops which were very overcooked that were accompanied with bland cauliflower puree and chopped up zucchini. I can make better at home. I think this place does not live up to its name, I think it used to be better in the past but its gone downhill...Go somewhere else! more

Mediocre food that's over priced 3/4/2011

I would not recommend Prima. The food is okay but you pay a high price for it. The wait staff is friendly but they disappear for long (really long) streches of time. Don't bother wasting your time or money on Prima. You can find much better food in downtown for much lower prices. more

Nice Atmostphere. Decent Food. Bad Service! 7/26/2010

My husband and I went to Prima for dinner on Saturday night before a show (so it was busy). By the way, if you ever want to grab a bite to eat before a show in Denver's theater district, make a reservation. We did not have a reservation and did not anticipate the trouble we had trying to get a table … it's Denver. We tried four places before Prima and lucky for us, they were able to take us. At first the waiter was conscientious of the fact that we had limited time so he sped up the service which we appreciated -- at first. I got the soft egg ravioli with black truffle butter which was interesting. It's probably not for everyone but I enjoyed it, although it could have used some salt and pepper. This is when the speedy service became downright rude. He basically threw our dishes at us without any follow up. Like I said, unfortunately, my ravioli needed a little spice but I was not going to get any unless I hunted it down. My husband's scallops were done well and they were tasty so he was fine, however he was a little insulted that we did not even get a ""you’re welcome"" when our food was delivered. The last draw was when the check was delivered. We were ready to go so we just handed him our credit card immediately. He brought it back quickly and then literally threw the check book at us (our card went flying off of the table). Then, he ran away without saying a word. We have never tipped less than 20 percent until this. We were so put off that we did not have a choice. That kind of treatment was unacceptable. It’s unfortunate that we have such a sour taste in our mouth from that service that we will probably never dine there again. It's not worth it; there are plenty of quality restaurants in Denver now. Like I said, we appreciated his urgency but not at the risk of pleasantries and basic good service and respect. Pros: Ambience. Dining on Mezzanine level. Creative dishes Cons: The food is a little bland for the price. Horrible service! more

Blah. Blah. More blah. 2/21/2009

Based on the other recent reviews, I'm not saying anything that hasn't already been said. Boring food, boring ambiance, and boring service. Avoid Prima. It's way overpriced for the quality of food you get. Wine list is even more outlandish. If you are staying at the Teatro, try KT's namesake restaurant across the hall instead. Pros: Easy to get a table on a Saturday night. That's not necessarily a good thing. Cons: Food. Service. Ambiance. more

Terrible! 2/25/2008

Everything about this place stunk, except for the bartender who doesn't deserve to be faulted. \r \r After finally being seated at 9pm for our 8pm reservation, we thought the worst was behind us--Not so! We ordered the calamari app, which was OK, but not spectacular. We then waited for another 35 minutes for our pasta course to arrive, but instead we got our entrees, which we had specificually asked to come after the pasta course. I asked the waitress what happened to the pasta and she replied ""oh yeah"". About 10 minutes later our cold and gummy pasta dishes (which had clearly been sitting around in the kitchen while we were waiting) were shoved on the table in between our entrees, leaving us about 0.1 inches of free table space. Then, after the third request and almost being completely done with our meal, we finally were brought bread--just in time for dessert. \r \r The entrees were not good at all--less than hotel quality. The chicken paillard was very bland and dry, the large portion did not excuse the poor quality. The pork tenderloin was cooked well but the potatoes were underdone and there were 3-4 whole roasted red peppers, which tasted straight fromt he jar and were really slimy. Both entrees tasted like they had been made in masse that afternoon and had been in warming trays since. \r \r Aside from being cold, the egg ravioli was pretty good; however the black truffles advertised on the menu were clearly porcini mushrooms, not truffles. On a downnote, the ravioli sauce had a lot of lemon and it was so acidic that it overpowered the already mediocre taste of our entrees. If the courses had come out prima and segunda (as one would hope from the name of the restaurant), it have been OK, but the pairing made all three dishes virtually inedible. \r \r Luckily for us, we were just dining out to try a new place. If this had been a special occasion it would have been the pits. We shall never be back. \r more

not good 11/30/2007

My husband and I went to this restaurant for our wedding anniversary. I usually don't try new places when it's a special occassion...however knowing that this was a Kevin Taylor restaurant put me at ease. I have to say, that this was one of the worst restaurant experiences we have had since we've lived in Denver. Service was slow at best. My soup was so salty it was barely edible, and my pasta was so gummy that it stuck to my teeth. I didn't think that spaghetti with marinara could go so wrong. Would not go back--and now I am reluctant to try another restaurant with Kevin Taylor's name attached. more

Good Food - Good Ambience 2/20/2007

I found the food to be very well made and delicious, the service was a tad slow but I took into consideration the pre-theatre crowd. Wonderful ambience inside, well worth a second visit. more

Delicious 1/25/2006

I recently enjoyed a wonderful lunch at Prima with my wife and I have to say that from the first course of the calamari to the dessert of semifreddo it was delicious. As a long time fan of Restaurant Kevin Taylor's, I have to say that Prima has a lot to offer and represents some great Italian dishes. The servers were attentive and friendly and the wine list offers something for everyone. more

Not worth the hype 10/25/2005

Prima is a very typical hotel restaurant. The decor is not incredibly exciting and the tables are very close together. The ceilings are very high which make it feel very impersonal. The table that we sat at, was not squished in with all of the others, but my view was directly into the kitchen. The service was disinterested and slow. The food menu is standard. The taste average. Pros: good location Cons: average food, slow / bored service, expensive parking more

Divine Dolci 10/1/2005

What a great pre-theater spot. I loved the goat cheese truffles and the osso bucco was fab. Finished with the best panna cotta I have ever had. Love it! more

Denver's Best Italian 8/30/2005

We started with a sampling of several appetizers. All were great but the standout was the ploenta fondue. We next tried serveral homemade pastas that were all exceptional. I then had the pork chop milanese, which was to die for. My server was attentive without being annoying. I would highly recommend this restaurant for any occasion. Pros: reasonable prices, attentive service, delicious food more
