Powell's books is the best book store in town. The employees are helpful and knowledgeable. We love the fact that you can look things up on the various computers throughout the store. We recently took our exchange student to the downtown store. After getting over the initial shock of how enormous the selection was. She couldn't wait to tell her family back in Germany about this incredible store. more

Make sure to grab a map 3/22/2006

Or you could easily become lost in this store! The rooms are color coated and by topic and they have just about everything. Whenever I know someone who is visiting Portland or have a friend in town, I always put Powell's on their list of things to visit along with OMSI and the Zoo. If you want a taste of Portland you'll find it at Powell's. It would be akin to climbing Mt Everest to find a subject that Powell's (or it's branches) does not have at least a dozen books on. Easily my favorite Portland store. more

one of the best bookstores ever 11/3/2005

This is a great bookstore. It's huge, has most everything you would want, and what makes it unique is the great used section. The used books are filed among the new books, so you can see if they have the title used simply by looking for the book listing. The store has three branches, and they all have a very Northwest flavor. Definitely worth stopping by if you're a book lover! more
