Terrible Service and Bland Food 8/18/2007

First off, I had made reservations for dinner at 7:30. Thinking that it wouldn't be a problem, I arrived a little early, and we were asked to take a seat at the bar. Not that this would normally be a problem for me, but we were sitting at the bar for 40 minutes before we were seated, later we learned because the hostess forgot about us. Thankfully I was a little buzzed so I wasn't as angry as I could have been. Then we were seated. It was 10 minutes before anyone even brought us water. Then when the waiter finally showed up, we told him we had been waiting for 40 minutes for our reservation. He proceeded to tell us in a half-apology that he didn't control the amount of people in the restaurant. Too bad I come from the school where if you make a reservation you get seated within 10 minutes of our reservation time. The food was not that good. The red sauce that was served with our meatballs was bland and tasteless. Wait scratch that, it had some taste, the taste of a kitchen staff that didn't know not to pour a bag of sugar into the sauce. The other appetizer, the prosciutto wrapped figs were great though. Next onto the main course, The lamb was good, and the sauce that it was served in was amazing. The other dish that we ordered, the veal, was bland and tasteless again. Our server was bumbling and never offered us a sincere apology. I feel that with all the blunders that occurred throughout the night, that they could have at least comped one of the appetizers or given us a coffee. We were not the only ones dissatisfied with the poor level of service, I saw the waiter not bring a coffee to the table next to ours, and the poor woman had to ask three times before a busboy finally brought one to her, this was after when her desert delivered to her without a fork. And the waiter brought another woman a glass of red wine when she asked for a glass of white. Overall I would say skip Pompeii and try someplace where the service is better and the staff not incompetent. Pros: Good drinks, good location Cons: Service, bland food more

Great Staff but service.... 4/25/2006

My friend and I ate here during restaurant week. The service was not the greatest, we had to ask for our salad and refills of water. My friend said that her chicken was bland, but I have to say that my Osso Bucco was wonderful- we ended up sharing my course. Franco, the GM asked us about our meal. I told him that I was a little disappointed with the level of service, from then on- everything was right on point, he offered us free drinks at the bar up front bar- the BEST dirty goose martinis! I would definately go back again- maybe I should give Franco a heads up. Overall it was a good meal, the staff was great (later into the evening), maybe they were just a little forgetful? Although, I don't think that a restaurant needs to be reminded that they need to step up the service! Pros: Friendly staff, cocktails, ambience Cons: noisy, service more

Could I get my salad PLEASE! 9/23/2005

My visit to Pompeii started off wrong and kept getting worse! I had 8pm reservations and was made to wait till 8:45 to be seated. I ordered a ceaser salad and was brought a house salad. It was taken back, but I had to ask the server twice more before I received the corrected salad. The ""chicken under a brick"" was so dry and tough it made one think of poultry flavored chewing gum and I could not identify the ground meat mixture it was perched on. The tira misu was not tira misu at all, but a dried out bit of cake with some canolli filling on top. This, by the way, was the waiters recommendation for desert as he said the cheesecake was ""mediocre"". This begs the question, what on earth did the cheesecake taste like?? Overall I was very disappointed and have vowed to never return. more

New location, fanatstic spot 1/30/2004

I had been to the location on Broad St., but my recent visit to their new location on Walnut was unbelievable. It is such an intimate setting and, as always, the service was warm while still very polished. The live jazz on Saturday nights is great too, as is the bar scene. I really think it has made this already exciting block that much better! more
