This place is a gem that I lost 25 years ago, But on Friday I found an old friend that I hope to see a lot more of in the future. Pros: Great burgers & pies Cons: limited ...

Would you pay $7.00 for a burger with small patty? Apparantly the people at Zagat think it's great to serve a $7.00 burger with barely any meat and no fries ($6.50 plus tax). Th...

There's more than apple 8/15/2003

The pie is massive, but don't limit your choices to apple. Your photo shows tomato on the burger but they never used to contaminate such a marvelous sandwich. As good as it ever was, but the prices are WAY above FatBurger or In-N-Out. Pros: grilled not charred, the dressing, huge slices of pie Cons: limited seating more

a classic 12/2/2002

Been around for 40 years. I went a few days ago for the first time. Exactly what you would expect. Good burger, didnt have the pie. Prices could have been a little cheaper. A nice trip back in time. Pros: classic digs, burgers, ice cream Cons: should be cheaper more

Never again !!! 8/23/2002

Being a Pasadenian, I gave the place 2 opportunities. The original time, years ago, I was there for lunch and not impressed. The meal was mediocre at best. Service was passable, I was not back for years. The second time, which was around Memorial Day, was for breakfast. The service due to the holiday (slow is an understatement). The food was some kind of egg breakfast, was served cold and the supposed never empty coffee cup was empty and I asked twice for a refill to no avail. When the eggs came back, it was a total new order but not what I ordered. I barked at the waitress and returned the food uneaten and paid for the coffee (the waitress threw the food immediately out in my presence) and I never got an apology from her or the cashier. This is place that will NEVER see me again. Cons: crowded, poor parking, terrible service more

THE BEST BURGER AROUND 8/1/2002

I love this place and dream about their burgers regularly. The grill is right in front of you and you can watch the master's at work. They are yummy, yummy, yummy! The fries rock too, but get them well done for extra crispiness. Pros: the burgers, the fries, the shakes Cons: parking, the waitresses, need more locations more

Gain 10lbs on the Pie n' Burger Plan 6/12/2002

You just can't find good burgers like this anymore. The patties are hand pressed, the fixings are fresh and piled high, held together with some good old fashioned wax paper. The menu is exactly as the name would indicate, pies n' burgers (but I have heard they have a spectacular greasy spoon breakfast.) As good as the burgers are the real story here is the pie. The apple pie alamode was so damn American I almost cried. My wife had the coconut cream pie, the only complaint, it wasnt chilled enough but aside from that, scrumptious. You'll definitely wanna go back to relive the burger experience and for some more of that tasty, tasty pie. Pros: Old Fashioned, Great Food, Good Service more

The best pie next to homemade 6/10/2002

i love all their pies-in the spring they have fresh strawberry, ollieberry and peach(my favorite). more

Great burger place 6/9/2002

Excellent burgers, fries, and, oh yes, pies. The name says its all - Pie N Burger is what you should order. Close to Lake Avenue and California. more

Skip the Pie, Skip the Burger 5/20/2002

Go for breakfast. Sure the pie is to die for. Yeah the burger is fabled. But sit at the counter on a Saturday morning, next to some physics whiz from Cal Tech with his calculator, wipe the sleep out of your eyes, spread out the paper, and before you can focus there's the familiar slosh of hot coffee filling your cup, a kind voice asking what can I get ya, hon, and it's always three eggs, over easy please, with bacon, crisp, hash browns and wheat toast. Oh yes, butter. And did I already empty myu cup? Could I have more coffee? more

Burgers in a time warp 5/20/2002

The food here is good, the menu is limited and many people who gather here are regulars. (Any restaurant that serves burgers wrapped in wax paper gets high marks from the start.) You can pretty much order here what the restaurant name suggests the burgers are juicy, and the pies are fresh. The service is very friendly they seem to treat everyone like a regular. The restaurant is pretty small, but the wait isn't usually long. And the decor is inimitable it would be nondescript, except that just you don't find places like this anymore at least not in L.A. more

Goodburger Good Pie 5/19/2002

The thing. The thing with the pie. What I'm saying is that you've got a burger. Then there's pie. Everyone correct me if I'm wrong but burger before the pie. Who would do the pie first? I'm just saying. Have the burger. Then the pie. more
