This place is a gem that I lost 25 years ago, But on Friday I found an old friend that I hope to see a lot more of in the future. Pros: Great burgers & pies Cons: limited ...

Worst

Would you pay $7.00 for a burger with small patty? Apparantly the people at Zagat think it's great to serve a $7.00 burger with barely any meat and no fries ($6.50 plus tax). Th...

Worst service in ages 7/31/2007

Me and the girlfriend were on our way to In n Out for a late dinner but decided to try this place out after hearing good things. Pros: Brag that you spent 7 dollars on a burger Cons: SERVICE, price, parking more

Big food, big prices 7/30/2007

I have a love-hate relationship with this restaurant. The simple burgers are great. The fresh peach pie is AMAZING! But paying $6.50 for a burger and $4.50 for a slice of pie is hard on the wallet. For a great experience, go there, but it's a bit hard on the wallet for what you get. more

Good burger, High Prices 7/24/2007

Parking is limited, but this greasy-spoon diner is a fun throwback to yesteryear. The waitresses all seem genuine and pleasant, and the food is above average for a diner. Burgers were very tasty, but a little pricey for what you get. If it wasn't for the price, I'd rate this place even higher. $20 for a coke, 2 cheeseburgers and an order of fries is a little much. Overall, definitely worth a try. Pros: Burgers, Atmosphere Cons: Price, Parking, Limited Seating more

Good burger, great pies 7/12/2007

Went here for lunch, and this place lives up to its name, both the burger and the pie were yummy. The service was great, and the waitress was really nice, although I did go on a weekday so it wasn't busy. The burger was pretty simple, but really tasty, with good beef and a nice spongy bun, kind of like an In-Out Burger but bigger. I had the peach pie, on the waitress' recommendation, and it was delicious, with a nice crust and amazing fresh sweet peaches. Definitely a place to try if you're in the neighborhood. more

Best burger around - believe it. 1/20/2007

I live in Thousand oaks, and when I want a hamburger, i drive to pasadena. Somehow, PB has captured the essence of a burger perfectly. No, it's not a Father's Office type sandwich (amazing bttw), but it's what you always wanted from a hamburger as a kid. Remeber when you had a big day at the beach, and were so hungry that the hamburger you ate tasted just like heaven on a bun? That's what hapens at the counter at PB. The beef is perfectly seasoned, and the bun is crisped to perfection, creating that special al dente feel at the preimiter. The lettuce is crisp, and the optional tomato is a nice add-on. The thousand island is well above average too. I can't say enough about this hamburger, and I grew up at the Apple Pan. The fries are awful, and the sodas are flat, which is a supreme bummer. The pies are inspired. Check it out. Pros: Hamburgers!!!! Cons: Fries, sodas Yuck! more

Favorite Burger in Los Angeles 9/8/2006

They put together the whole package: meat, cheese, tomato, pickles, onions, lettuce, special sauce, grilled bun... the sum miraculously adding up to more than its parts: Burger Perfection. Fries are good, potato salad: even better. Fresh Peach Pie a la mode is incredible... my favorite slice of pie on the planet. I love it's frozen in time atmosphere of formica tables and counter service. This is just a great place. Pros: Best Cheeseburger in L.A.... Best Fresh Peach Pie a la mode on the planet more

Great burgers, fries and pie 7/30/2006

The burgers are simple, but great. The fries are fresh and crispy and the pie is tasty. The severs are friendly and polite. Pros: Burgers, fries, pie Cons: parking, hard to seat a group of 4 more

Good Burger with Better Pie 2/2/2006

Located just off the corner of Lake and California in Pasadena, this burger place feels very nostalgic for the area. With hand coffee grinders and mechanized registers, I doubt anything has been remodeled inside since they first opened. Inside you have the choice of a counter or the very few tables, but expect a wait either way. The draw is the $5.45 burger, with the 25 cent cheese and/or tomato option. The burger patty was hand formed and seasoned to perfection, and the toasted bun was a nice touch. Skip the fries, theyre only so-so. But make sure you get the pie. The boysenberry with cream was fantastic! The custard wasnt great, the lemon meringue was stupendous, and the peanut butter pie was alright. The downside is service is terribly slow and parking was a pain. But all in all a great evening. Pros: cheesburger, various pies Cons: parking, service more

Still An Old Favorite 1/5/2006

I no longer work in Pasadena, but still drop into this great little burger joint whenever I get the chance. I used to love it for lunch. These are ""real"" burgers, not the fakes at the fast food joints (which I suspect those who don't like the food here were brought up on, and who wouldn't know a ""real"" burger if it their life depended on it). Pros: real burgers, great pies, atmosphere Cons: parking more

Delicious burger! 1/2/2006

It's a very old diner but it's comfortable enough for you to enjoy a juicy burger on a weenend. It's much more tastier than Johnny Rockets, it's a bit pricey though. more

You'll wish you hadn't! 12/9/2005

I have never understood all the raves this dump gets. On (formerly) trusted friends recomendations I stopped in. WISH I HADN""T! Even though the manager was very friendly, his staff just couldn't be bothered. No small portions (I Wish!) just no taste, McD's food has more taste. They should visit the Apple Pan to see how to do it. Cons: ugly decor, bad parking more

Not worth it! 10/5/2005

i've tried this place three times because of those so-called ""best of ..."" list. HORRIBLE BURGERS (they have no taste, no variety, just plain awful). HORRIBLE PIES (they all taste and look like grocery store pies made with canned fruits). HORRIBLE SERVICE (it feels like you drove to a truck joint in the middle of nowhere). i am a burger lover know them well. Cons: Burger, Service, Interior more

Did I go to the same Pie n Burger? 10/2/2005

Wow! This is the first time I have ever left a restaurant without leaving a tip. Horrible service, horrible food, and unbelievable prices. I had heard such awesome reviews of this place so I had to try it for myself. Unfortunately, I was 30 minutes too early for lunch, so I had to order breakfast. Burned pancakes, hasbrowns with no flavor, and toast that was covered with way too much butter. I didn't eat much, so I ordered a slice of banana cream pie (I figured if I didn't have a burger, at least I'll have some of their ""home made"" pie) - another mistake! I can't understand how this place has stayed in business for so long. Cons: Service, Food, Prices more

Real Diner-era burgers 9/19/2005

While other joints go for the 50's diner appeal look-Pie n Burger is the real thing. From the cash register, soda fountain (yes, they actually mix your soda the old way), to the decor-not much has changed especially the quality. Great Cheeseburgers! Pros: Freshest Burgers, Pies, Soda Fountain more

Totally Over-rated 9/7/2005

Went here with friends last weekend, after many of them boasting of this place. Ordered burger, frys and pie ala mode. The buger was terrible, barely warmed, but it was tall. The fries were nothing special and the apple pie ala mode, I have had better in Woolworth's when they were still in business. Just goes to show you that ratings can be totally WRONG. Also the waitress service was extremely slow and I felt the food was Way Overpriced for what you received. Other guests also felt the same. Pros: sloppy burger Cons: Overpriced Food, Bad parking, Lousy service more

The Perfect Burger! 7/18/2005

I just don't understand the negative reviews of Pie N Burger. I literally have dreams of their burgers, my whole life I have searched for the perfect burger and I think I have now found it! The perfect balance of crispy char outside and juicy inside. The wait staff is very nice, more than once they have gone way out of their way to give great service. I'll say it again... The Perfect Burger! more

Best Burger just off Lake 7/15/2005

The burgers are nothing to sneeze at, large and full of flavor, but I go for the pies. Always fresh, and usually a differnet vareity every day. The berry pies are grand, the cream pies, out of this world.. and I still need to try the merange. Pros: pies, burgers Cons: parking, cash only more

Old fashioned heaven 5/5/2005

Burgers made the old way that taste like homemade heaven. Can't beat the fresh pies either! more

A Genuine Experience 3/7/2004

This is a truly odd little restuarant. On the surface, the burgers appear to be nothing special, but they have an addictive quality (my wife calls it a 'yummy quotient') that makes the whole more than the sum of its parts. They mix soft drinks by hand -- soda water and syrup -- and have truly delicious pie to top off the meal. Service is on the leisurely side (they are so cramped that only a few waitresses can fit behind the counter), but this is the real thing -- not a 'canned' theme restaurant -- so you probably won't mind the wait. Prices for the burgers, fries, and drinks border on the ridiculous, but pie is, suprisingly, a relative bargain. Worth a visit at least once, for any burger buff. Pros: Very tasty food., Hand-mixed sodas., Authentic atmosphere. Cons: , Crowds and parking., Service can be slow. more
