Best

I've been here with my friends from Penn State. I think it's ok, we've had good times hanging out here. It's small, which I tend to like. The food is decent, but like most places ...

Worst

not impressed with philly diner. I think the prices are too expensive. granted, there are plenty of UPenn students around, it isnt too tasty. Avoid the deserts! You are better off...

A good place to chill 2/28/2006

I've been here with my friends from Penn State. I think it's ok, we've had good times hanging out here. It's small, which I tend to like. The food is decent, but like most places around colleges, its pricey. It's worth it though since it's open 24 hours a day. Greek Lady is better, but if you around, this one is good too. more

A good place to eat 2/28/2006

This place is really good for a smallish place in the city. You can stop here coming out of The Bridge or when you're just tooling around Penn's campus, because it's got decent food, a cool atmosphere, great location, etc. There's no downsides - it's open 24 hours and they give you a great value for the price. more

UPenn crowd, expensive food 9/13/2005

not impressed with philly diner. I think the prices are too expensive. granted, there are plenty of UPenn students around, it isnt too tasty. Avoid the deserts! You are better off at the Greek Lady (although read my review there!). standard diner food. I guess you cant expect too much from diner food, but Philly Diner is worse! I think they offer student discounts with valid ID more

Expensive but All-Hours Makes it Great! 8/10/2005

Philly Diner is this building's third attempt to establish a 24hour diner in the Penn area. Their prices are a little steep and their menu can be a little erratic, but nothing is better for a college student than a place they can eat at 4am without worry. They carry the usual diner foods (breakfast any time, burgers, etc) and they have some more unsual items (like steak, etc). They have lots of cakes always on display and coffee is always available to the sleep-deprived. The waiters change almost on a weekley basis (they cant seem to keep their employees long) and their menu never changes. Their prices are a bit steep (almost $9 dollars for a burger) but again, they can afford to put those prices when they are one of the few places open at all hours of the night (aside from the local Freshgrocer and 24hour McDonalds). If you are hungry and need a quick fix, go to Philly Diner but be prepared to pay the hefty price. more

Satisfies the cravings 8/6/2005

Open 24 hours is the key phrase. I wouldn't go there during the day but late night it's the place to go. They offer the usual diner foods. They have cakes, salads, pancakes, breakfast items, sandwiches, and everything is a hearty portion. Their milkshakes are thick and satiating. They also have healthy options in that you can get egg whites and substitute fruit for different options. As you would imagine, the atmosphere is casual and there's a mix of locals and college students. Very inexpensive food. more
