Pet's Playhouse

Pet's Playhouse, like most stores, sells puppy mill puppies. Just because the store is family owned and the dog has papers,does not mean that it isn't from a puppy mill. Never buy a puppy without seeing for yourself the parents and the facility he came from. If you buy anything at Pet's Playhouse, you are financially supporting animal cruelty,regardless of how nice the owners are. more

I would love to give Pet's Playhouse 5 stars and I feel bad but I have to share this to spare other people the trouble! The staff was very helpful and patient. We went in looking for a puppy and they really seemed to care about the dogs and sharing with us how to raise a puppy, training, grooming, etc. HOWEVER, we spoke with 3 different employees about where the puppies originated and they assured us all of came from reputable breeders, not puppy mills. After we fell in love with one of the puppies, they gave us the papers and breeder's personal name and business name. I heard a nice little story about how they're just a small Iowa kennel with a couple litters a year and so on. Yes, they took advantage of my lack of knowledge on this! After we had the puppy home, a friend of mine suggested I look up the breeder's name on www.petshoppuppies.com (EVERYONE should do this before buying a dog from Pet's Playhouse or any other pet store!!!) and found out that our dog didn't come from a nice little family kennel but a puppy mill with over 420 dogs! I know people will say that we should have known since the puppy came from a pet store, but these people schmoozed us into believing them and lied to us! Even after we talked about puppy mill dogs, they assured us Pet's Playhouse is just a small, family-owned business and would never even consider selling mill dogs! It's too bad because we really thought they were decent people. Before you give Pet's Playhouse your money, know that you're financing huge, dirty and miserable puppy mills!!! more

They know fish, they are very helpful in solving problems. Yes you can find things cheaper at the chain stores, but you won't get the help! To me it is worth an extra 2 or 3 bucks for a bag of dog or cat food to help a local business owner. more

Last year, my son got some money for his birthday and he decided that he wanted some fish. We'd never had fish before, so we bought two betas from Wal-Mart. After a few days, one died. We bought a replacement and after a few months of those doing well, we decided to buy a ten gallon tank. We went to Pet's Playhouse where we ran into the most friendly and knowledgeable staff. Now, I am of the belief that a person who is working in an "industry" ought to know what they're talking about, but after visiting almost every store in this town that sold fish, I found them to REALLY know what they were talking about. Every staff member was more than helpful and willing to take the time to talk to me about my tanks and how I should get them established. 4 fish tanks later, they are my one stop place for all things fish! They also have a small collection of dog stuff, birds and accessories as well as gerbils and other such small rodents. Not my bag, but there none the less. I think there are two locations, but I prefer the one on Johnson Ave. more

You would be better off purchasing fish at this store. That is what they are leaning towards anyway. I enjoy going in and browsing through all of the tanks of fish. Great prices on the fish and they are very healthy. They do have a few live animals, but you would be better off going through a breeder for those anyway. They want far too much for their puppies! I do not like the fact that they smoke in this store. That is not good for the birds and shortens their life. more

this pets store has it all. they usually have a selection of kittens, puppies, turtles and all the supplies that you can think of to take care of all of them. they also have one of the best selections of tropical fish in the area. the staff is very knowledgeable about all of the products and what you will need to take care of them if you are a first time pet owner. more
