Editorial review from Citysearch 7/2/2015

Unfortunately during my cats 6 day stay he was injured. Upon picking him up at Petropolis in Chesterfield, MO he had an open wound on the back of his neck about 2 inches wide/ 1 in long! They did not notify me of this on my daily calls to check in. I took my cat directly to the Veterinary Care Center next door for immediate treatment. The vet that cared for him said the wound was 'obvious' and that it should not have been missed by the pet-care staff. Mysteriously the Petropolis staff has no idea what happened to my cat whilst in their care. Oh, and to add insult to injury the owner of Petropolis, Paul, asked that my cat and I not return. Are you kidding me??? more

Bad pet training 6/10/2012

Do NOT take your dog here for training. Courtney one of the "evaluators" has got to be the worst person they have to evaluate dogs. She is SO nervous, doesn't listen to what you are telling her. It is like she is on speed or something - she jumps around in her seat like it is on fire. Seriously for a professional establishment not really sure who gave her, her job. Just because she can train a dog does not mean that she can evaluate or interact with the public in an intelligent, professional manner. She has to be related to someone who works there.\r Their dog "group" classes are a joke - there is no time at the end to ask any questions, because the next class is coming in - you literally have 5 minutes from the time one class ends to the beginning of the next class. Rob the head trainer, likes to stand and talk to his other dog buddies instead of paying attention and helping the people that actually need help - I don't think he actually likes the working with people part, just more

I just wanted to thank you for helping us with Kingston. 10/20/2011

When we took Kingston to you this summer, we thought he was a lost cause:) He is a 3 1/2 yr old boxer who seemed set in his ways. As you know, we were having problems with him running away since we started remodeling the backyard (no fence). Every opportunity he had to get out a door, he would be gone for 30 mins-1 hour. Being that I am pregnant, I realized quickly that I could no longer keep chasing him, and I certainly wouldn't be able to worry about him after I have this baby. He was also quite a jumper when greeting guests at the door. Since we took him to you, he has honestly been incredible! Everyday that I picked him up during training, you guys insisted that he was a quick learner and was doing great. I had a hard time believing it, but I figured it was worth a shot. When my husband and I picked him up on that Friday, we were shocked! I was so impressed at how well he responded to the shock collar. Once we took him home, he continued to impress us. But now, he is truly a different dog! He has much more freedom at home, because we trust him, which ends up making him a happier dog too. As my husband worked on a new patio and deck all summer, Kingston would just sit and watch him, or play around in the backyard...never running away!!!! We still don't have a fence, and we are at a point that we can not have our eyes on him for several minutes, and as soon as we say, ""Kingston, come"" he comes running right to us! We are so happy and so are our friends and family. Everyone comments on how much better he is, and our parents are even willing to watch him now, because he responds well to them too! We needed this training before we brought our new baby home, and it makes us much more confident that he will be a good dog once we do that in December. On top of not running away, he no longer jumps on guests when they walk in, he stays out of the trash can, and off of the counter. Most impressively, we taught him to ""Park it"" (lay down and stay) on the hallway rug until we tell him ""You're free."" We use this command when guests come to the door. I attached a picture of him hanging out in the backyard while his daddy was working. He may not look happy, but he was just relaxing after running for 20 mins. I think it's a cute pic. So thank you again for making us so happy with our pooch...I thought I couldn't love him anymore than I already did! Take Care, Katie Mills more

You do have an excellent program and I thank you. 8/15/2011

I am writing to let you know how beneficial the training course at Petropolis was to me and my dog. In three weeks you trained Mini to ring a bell when she had to go out. She also learned to sit, down, come, and stay. Of great importance she learned to ?be last? when going up and down steps so as not to trip you. Although she is still a puppy and makes mistakes from time to time she is really learning to be ?the perfect pet?. \r \r All of this is very good but the main benefit of the course is teaching me how to train and correct unwanted behavior. This will carry on long after the course is finished. \r \r You do have an excellent program and I thank you. \r \r Sincerely, \r Alan R. Spivack, MD more

$1,350 will buy you kennel cough 4/13/2011

I paid $1,350 for the Petropolis "perfect puppy" package. This bought basic commands "sit, down, climb" with the Petropolis mantra of "stay is implied, entrapment is legal, and you have 1.3 seconds to reward/correct" but what I wasn't counting on was the hundreds of dollars of veterinary care required to treat the pink eye and kennel cough my five month old puppy contracted at Petropolis. It appears as though Petropolis is either not vigilant about immunization requirements or doesn't rigorously disinfect. I'd suggest they rethink placing a well used bone in a dog's mouth to train to "drop" or encouraging a dog to lick the floor clean of treats after the "leave it" command is FREED. Free! Free! That's the command Petropolis uses to release a dog from a particular command. Little did I know that Free! Free! would not be the case when it came to the horridly contagious disease they 'gifted' my puppy. I only hope he recovers. Never, ever, ever again would I return to Petropolis, more

$1,350 will buy basic commands, pink eye and kennel cough 4/9/2011

Enrolled our five month old standard poodle in ""Perfect pet program"". This buys you day care and basic commands, many of which I don't use or need. The mantra here is ""stay is implied"", ""entrapment is legal"", ""1.3 seconds to correct or praise"". Not sure how much of the 7-8 hours per day my dog actually spent in training. What I do know is that he was treated for conjunctivitis after week one and two days after his ""training"" was complete he was treated yet again for conjunctivitis and kennel cough. The vet said despite my dog's immunizations his puppy immune system was likely not ready for what Petropolis had to offer. I would never, ever return to Petropolis. Dogs are encouraged to lick food off the floor for 'leave it' training and share a community bone for 'drop' training. $1,350 was just the beginning of my expenditures having been to the vet's office three times, purchased two rounds of eye ointment, one round of antibiotics and more importantly having to watch my trusting puppy suffer from yellow/green nasal discharge, a horrid cough, difficulty breathing, lethargy and no appetite. Thanks Petropolis. You really outdid yourself. Readers be warned! more

Not a place for my best friend. Or even a worst enemy, 3/5/2011

If I could give this place a 0 I would. Actually, i'd rather see them shut down. We took our dog in for a nail trim. They put her up on the table in a noose. She fell off and was literally hanging by her neck off the table while the ignorant tech kept trying to grab her paws to continue the trim. My husband had to run around the counter to try to grab her before she was seriously injured. The manager stood there watching the entire episode and did nothing. I will never go back, and for the health of your pets, I hope you also choose another location. more

Priceless! 6/4/2010

My name is Tabby. I am a 9 month old standard poodle. I will never forger leaving my mom and all my brothers and sisters. We drove all the way from Indiana to Missouri. I cried and threw up. My new family took me to a "mean" trainer. I was so frightened, I had diarrhea.\r \r Then they brought me to Petropolis :) Rebekkah was so kind to me, and I wanted to please her. I did everything she taught me. This made everyone smile - including me! Jan gives me a bath and grooms me. I can tell that this makes me beautiful, because everyone, everywhere I go smiles and pets me :)\r \r I have made friends with so many dogs that I didn't even miss my sisters and brothers anymore. My friends and I have so much fun playing together!!! I really like my friends too! Did I mention the yummy bacon-cheddar ice cream? Priceless! Come spend the day with me at Petropolis.\r \r Tabby <3 more

I wouldn't trust my animals anywhere else! 5/25/2010

Everyone @ Petropolis is very professional and amazing! They all treat the animals as if they were their own, and really care about each of them. Their daycare facility is one of a kind, I've tried taking my dogs to different daycare centers, but no one's daycare can come close to theirs. I wouldn't trust my animals anywhere else! Thanks for all your hard work guys! more

Positive Experience For Your Four-legged Friend 5/21/2010

Hands-down the best place to get your pet groomed in St. Louis. My dog hates going to most groomers but she loves Petropolis. The people that work there are so sweet to her and she actually gets excited when she walks in the door.\r \r Petropolis goes out of its way to make grooming (and boarding) a positive experience for your four-legged friend. My sister's dog has outrageous separation anxiety coupled with the urge to snarl at anyone who tries to pick him up but, somehow he let the groomer scoop him up like a baby and take him to be groomed. According to my mom, it was like an episode dog whisperer.\r \r My puppy comes back from her "spa day" with a spring in her step, bouncy/shiny hair and smelling better than I do! more

Our Dogs Love Petropolis! 5/20/2010

Our Dogs love Petropolis and that says a lot!!! I have used many facilities over the years and always felt horrible for having to leave my pets behind. Now I can travel and feel secure with the knowledge of how well my pets are cared for and not worry constantly. I can't say enough good things about the staff, they are... professional, courteous, caring, and kind...they go out of their way to make your pets feel loved and cared for. When I used "kennels" and "spas" in the past my dogs always came home acting wild from lack of exercise and attention, when I pick them up from Petropolis they are happy to greet me but they don't make that dash for the door...they say bye to their new friends and seem happy and relaxed.\r \r I love the report cards that show how much time your pet spends playing with others and how much they went outside and how they behaved. That is tremendous for me to be able to see that my pets got individual treatment and even what toys or new friends they played with, more

Priceless! 5/20/2010

Odie and Sully always love their stay at Petropolis and are always happy for a return visit. We feel assured that they are getting plenty of exercise on the outdoor playground. They are really social dogs and enjoy this aspect of Petropolis. When the dogs are returned to us they are always well-groomed and smelling clean. Thanks for taking care of our dogs while we are away!!\r \r We also love the convenience of grooming, training, and boarding facility all in one. That is priceless! more

You are truly the best! 5/19/2010

When I travel it is so nice to know that my crazy Border Collie Harley will be in great hands. Petropolis has the best boarding facility in St. Louis hands down! I can enjoy myself knowing that Harley is happy, getting exercise, & being social in a nice clean environment. Thanks Roxanne and Petropolis for making my boy... feel feel special & loved when I am not around to care for him. You are truly the best! more

Thanks so much! 5/19/2010

My dogs, Anjelica (8) and Margarita (4), are spoiled little Chihuahuas with some BIG attitudes! Roxanne and Rob are helping me socialize them (better late than never) and train them and we have seen a difference immediately. As I type they are being boarded and I can leave them worry free knowing they love the staff an...d are getting the social skills they didn't learn as puppies. The entire staff has been amazing with me (an over protective dog mom) and my girls (who bark, bite, growl and fuss). We are joining a group of real pet lovers and gaining practical knowledge and experience that will help me enjoy my dogs more and help them understand boundaries, rewards, obedience and appreciate other people and dogs. I shopped around to all the other facilities and couldn't be more pleased or comfortable with the beautiful and positive environment at Petropolis... Thanks so much to all of you!!! more

My dog Jake loves to go to Petropolis for his training classes and visit the doggie bakery. His trainers have made life so much easier for the whole family. more

Great Place to Play 2/26/2010

We have a very inactive dog, picture her laying on the bed all day and that would sum up her day. So we decided to take her to Petropolis for a play day. We take her once a week for a few hours. At first she is really nervous but then she gets into the spirit of things. She is exhausted when she gets home but I have noticed that her energy level has gone up. Plus I like that she is able to socialize with other dogs. All in good fun. Pros: Close to home, reasonably priced Cons: none yet more

Never Again! 12/28/2009

Looks fancy from the lobby but the accomodations are less than desirable. My dog came home exausted, skittish, vommiting, dirty, and they sprayed some coconut smelling stuff on him without our knowledge, (and he has allergies) I assume as an attempt to cover the urine smell. You would think from the inflated prices they would be a lot more classy of a place. But beware, your animal will be kept in a glorified crate, with a full view of the other animals (this is what they reffer too as their "2 room condo" When I called to find out if anything had happened to cause his abnormal behavior I was hung up on. What a joke! more
