Best

Ate at lunch time but had breakfast...mine was corned beef and eggs and friend had Eggs Benedict. We had no complaints. Staff was friendly, we were seated\r immediately, food cam...

Worst

The inside is very cute, sort of a mock of the very sucessfull St. Honore... Pastries we tried where below average, very dry. And maybe it was just the day but it was like piles ...

Great spin on breakfast (or lunch) 1/13/2007

While this place was packed and it was a little loud, we still enjoyed our breakfast. They offer unique dishes for breakfast. I got a smoked salmon hash that was yummy. Also has a lunch menu but I didn't really look at it. We waited at least 20min to get seated since we didn't get there till 10am (they open at 7am) but it was worth it. Just be sure to get your name on the waiting list! They even came around w/ coffee cake samples while we waited. My latte tasted so good, the complimentary croissant was buttery but delicious, & our server was very nice. It took awhile to get a coffee refill b/c they were really busy. The prices were reasonable, I think about $8-12. Then there's the pastries! Multiple choices of french delicacies, breads, cookies, cakes, etc. I bought a loaf of peasant rye bread and it was so good! We're going to have to come back multiple times to try the other dishes! more

Excellent food and service... 12/22/2006

It's now my favorite place to eat! The portions are good sized and I'm always full when I leave! Petite Provence is very inviting, comfortable, casual and a very friendly staff. I've been there several times now will keep going back! Every time the food and service is excellent! I would highly recommend this place! The service is friendly and prompt, the bread & pastries are wonderful!\r \r I highly recommend it! Pros: All thumbs up! more

Great Neighborhood Bakery 12/20/2006

The pastries are great, breakfast is good, the people who work there are very nice, and it almost feels as though you are in a European cafe. What's not to like? Pros: Delicious baked goods more

Too french for its own good! 12/19/2006

I cannot tell you how the food tastes, because I was not allowed to order. I cannot say that I have ever had a waitress tell me, ""Sorry I can't take your order,"" until today at Petite Provence. I waited in a line to be seated for at least 20 minutes, when there were ample tables to sit at had it been a seat yourself environment. Upon being seated I had to retrieve my own menu. Having perused the delectable, but slightly overpriced, menu I decided on what to eat only to have my waitress come by and tell me I had to wait nearly an hour before she could take my order; by then it would have been lunchtime. She said she didn't want to stress her kitchen. Granted the place was busy, but there were some empty tables. A kitchen that cannot support the capacity of its restaurant, makes for a very frustrating dining experience. The table next to me had been seated for a half hour and not given menus, water or silverware. Can say I have had similar cafe experiences in Paris, but we are not in Paris. So, if you have time to waste this is the restaurant for you. Cons: All thumbs down! more

Nice inside Pastries average 12/1/2006

The inside is very cute, sort of a mock of the very sucessfull St. Honore... Pastries we tried where below average, very dry. And maybe it was just the day but it was like piles of them on the counter. They couldn't take the time to arrange them to be appealing, yet there where several people standing behind the counter. The other funny thing we noticed was. The baker or whoever was bringing the pastries out from the back, looked to be in his pj's! This was the breaking point, probably wont be back... Pros: Very cute place Cons: Pastries didn't live up to their potential more

It only gets better! 11/27/2006

This is my 2nd review of the place, as it is the first time we had anything by pasteries. The onion soup as is as good as anywhere in the world, and my wife's whole grain pancakes with almond creme brule sauce were outstanding. \r \r The almond croissants are the best in Portland, no matter what anyone says! Get them early as they run out quickly, but save some for me! \r \r The same large fruit tarts that are about $20 here would be double that in Los Angeles, and triple in Paris!\r \r The place was jammed on staurday, yet the service was fine and attentive. \r \r I must admit, however, that the Challah, although excellent, wasn't as good as some other bakeries.\r \r I'm going again today for lunch; there are just too many things that sound wonderful not to make this a regular stop. Pros: Excellent pasteries and lunch at very reasonable prices Cons: run out of certain items early more

Superb addition to Southeast Portland 11/26/2006

Division Street is the beneficiary of this terrific place for breakfast or lunch or for a business meeting with one or two associates. The pastries are great, and menu selections are classy. Pros: Menu, ambience Cons: Service can be somewhat mediterranean in its pace more

Le Petit Denny's 10/19/2006

My boyfriend and I have enjoyed pastries from this new bakery several times since it's opened and we have been impressed. Last weekend we decided to take advantage of thier full breakfast menu. It took several minutes for one of the 10 or so servers (whom by the way were all dressed so similarily that we felt like we were at Denny's) to acknowlege us. After finally being seated we waited and waited and waited some more for our server to come over and take our order. It took 15 minutes to get our coffee and tea and there was no coffee in my boyfriend's mocha. The food tasted good, however by the time we recieved it we were frustrated by the entire experience. It took another 20 minutes to get our server's attention for the check, and we ended up having to walk up to the counter to pay our bill. I wish that we had told the manager at the time about our experience because this place has potential... but the service ruined it. Pros: good location Cons: poor service more

Great soups, helpful staff 9/28/2006

Great little lunch spot. The French Onion soup here is one of the best I've ever had, and the sandwiches are amazing too. The staff made several helpful recommendations which saved my boyfriend from raspberry mayo that would have been a bit too frou-frou for him. \r \r Haven't tried the baked goods yet, but they looked amazing. Pros: great smells, great food. Cons: street parking more

Great spot for breakfast! 9/21/2006

I was very happy to see Petite Provence arrive on Division. The pastries and bread are great, but I really enjoy the breakfast. Service is friendly and prompt. It gets busy on weekend mornings, but it's just what this neighborhood needed! Pros: Good food, friendly service, ambiance Cons: Parking more

Just what upper Division needed! 9/19/2006

We live just down the street and have been waiting for Petite to open. The pastries are great and service is prompt. The pastry selection is really big, but I like the simple Walnut rolls. There is a slight language barrier with some of the staff, but it adds to the charm. Pros: Ambience is fresh more
