I went to Perilla with my girlfriend. We made a reservation because we wanted to go try something special.
I'll give you the quick sum up first, then you can read the rest if you feel like it........
Big disappointment. If you have 100 bucks to spend on a date, i highly recommend you go to Budakan, or David Burke Townhouse. Both those places are pricey but at least you come away feeling like you paid for something special.
Now on to the experience......
The duck meat ball appetizer was nice.
I ordered the duck breast and she ordered the salmon.
Both our dishes came to us practically raw. The fish was luke-warm to the touch. My duck was red in the middle, even though i asked for ""medium"". Neither of us were even moderately impressed with our dishes and we both left the plates 60% uneaten. It was actually unappetizing.
Aside from the main part of the dish, there wasn't really anything that came with it. The duck just had some spinach and some peanuts. Not flavorful. Not really impressive. I could have easily made this myself.
The fish came with just some sauce that wasn't amazing by any standards.
We ordered the risotto as a side. It was ok, but nothing to write home about. Kind of inconsistent texture. Once again, not impressive.
So , one appetizer, 2 entrees, a one alcoholic drink..... $100. Um...... Yeah, no way that was worth it. We both left that place hungry and i personally wanted to stop at a deli for a sandwich afterwards.
I think the other people giving this place high reviews are just part of the pretentious foody crowd or they just don't want to feel stupid for saying ""i don't get it, this food isn't that good""....... well i'm not worried about being that guy. I don't get it, and the food wasn't good and i would never think to myself, ""wow, i'm really craving _____ from Perilla""
