I was disappointed in the restaurant after a recent lunch experience. I ordered the chicken twist (a cutesy name for a chicken sandwich wrapped in a pita) and was disappointed to...

Something Different...Delicious food! 8/25/2010

my boyfriend took me there for my birthday and I really loved it. I didn't know anything about Turkish Cuisine and was pleasantly surprised! The appetizers are divine and the Lamb burger to die for. They also have Live Music on Fridays, which gives it a nice relaxing vibe...fancy, a bit pricey but delicious food. Definitely worth it. more

Classy Mediterranean Done Right! 5/12/2010

Wow - so delicious! My husband who is 1/2 Turkish grew up on Mediterranean food, and both of us could not stop raving about the food at Pera. My husband has been to some top-notch kebab restaurants in Turkey, and Pera's dishes were some of the best he's ever had! We had THE PERA TRADITION tasting menu - the meats were seasoned perfectly, and the vegetable dishes were incredible...especially the roasted whipped eggplant which had a divine smoky flavor. We ended with a cool rice pudding. Hands down, Pera is the best Mediterranean restaurant we've been to - portions are generous and the staff was very professional. Be sure to try a glass of Yeni Raki, a licorice flavored liquor - it is the perfect compliment to your Mediterranean dining experience. Pera's in a great location on Madison Avenue (easy walk from Times Square) - I highly recommend you try Pera. You'll be a raving fan too! Pros: Incredible food, great service, inviting decor more

Lamb Roast Rocks 4/21/2010

Had been here before, a couple of times, and was very impressed. This place does everything right - while it doesn't aspire to be a four or even three star restaurant, it's as good on all fronts as many so rated. On this latest visit I went for the new lamb roast available on the weekends. Not only is a a wonderful offering for a lamb lover like me, but it's an incredible bargain - $29 for a generous postion of roasted lamb and six appetizers and sides. Although there is a two diner minimum. If you like lamb, head for Pera. Don't think any other place in town does a regular lamb roast - for Greek easter yet, but not every weekend! Pros: Great food;great service;stylish decor;good bar scene Cons: Desire to eat everything on the menu more

Good times and lamb bits 3/22/2010

Really nice ambience and stylish design. came with some friends and had a good meal. We stuffed ourselves with the appertizers so I was the only one who ended up getting a main course. the apps were very good and great for sharing. ended up getting the lamb tenderloin and it was really good. I'm a sucker for lamb and they didn't dissapoint. more

Great food & Ambience, a great find in midtown. 3/19/2010

I recently needed to book a business lunch near Grand Central and came across Pera. I noticed that most of the reviews were pretty positive, with some occasional negative experiences. In this new world of viral media, its hard to really find an objective opinion. I have to say this restaurant is quite a find! I loved the decor, food and ambience. The appetizers where especially delicious, my favorite being the lamb tacos and eggplant dish. My colleague ordered the whole fish, though I did not try it it looked pretty tasty. I also loved the atmosphere it was perfect for a business lunch. I will definitely be back! Pros: Wide range of tasty appetizers, beautiful decor more

Disappointing 3/15/2010

I was disappointed in the restaurant after a recent lunch experience. I ordered the chicken twist (a cutesy name for a chicken sandwich wrapped in a pita) and was disappointed to find that it was two very bland chicken patties almost ungarnished in an overabundance of pita. There was a bit of spice on the side, along with some raw onions, but not nearly enough to make it flavorful or particularly appealing. It wasn't cheap either. more

Never again 2/13/2009

My wife and I had dinner at Pera on a Saturday night and it was an unpleasant experience at best. The baby lamb chop was overcooked and the humus was served with bread that had a texture similar of a rock.\r My wife had the monk fish which was not bad. The worse part of the meal was the service. The waiter never seemed concerned or even interested if our experience was good or not.\r I did speak with someone who claimed to be the manager on the way out and his only comment was please try us again it will be better. I have never thought about writing a review before and I dine out in NYC often but this whole experience was downright dreadful.\r more

Delicious, inventive, and fabulous!! 1/28/2009

I sampled a number of the smaller plates at Pera - the eggplant and tomato timbale is excellent; delicately seasoned and refreshing. The grape leaves were some of the best I have ever had as well - with a subtle sweetness that I really enjoyed. I also enjoyed one of the best cocktails - the Bld. Orange Gimlet- and probably the best dessert - the flaky pastry in a honey sauce with a melted cheese center I've ever had. A must try!!! more

All around amazing!!! 1/28/2009

My wife and I took my mother-in-law to Pera for some good Mediterranean and were more than impressed. The service is both attentive and informative, offering you the perfect wine selection for whichever dish you choose. Of the many splendid offerings, I highly recommend the lamb. My personal favorite is the lamb riblets but the newly added sausge lollipops are also one of a kind. To me, lamb is difficult to cook and many restaurants typically overcook it or don't season it enough, leaving the scent of the lamb that is often unsavory. Pera has mastered the preparation and cooking of the meat and has made the meal an experience you won't soon forget. Pros: Service and quality of food Cons: If I had to list a drawback, it would be the space. That being said, I like the space and ambience, but the tables feel a little close. more
