Beautiful view of lake across the street 7/21/2011

Older property but very nicely kept up. Beautiful view of lake across the street and for this reason I reccomend getting an upper floor room. There is an elevator. Nice selection of breakfast items. Rooms clean and well maintained and fairly quiet. Plenty of things within walking distance. more

Best customer service ever 7/19/2011

Best customer service ever...I read previous review and must say that my partner and I did not find any rude employees. The rooms we perfect for the price and the view from the top is superb. more

We thoroughly enjoyed our 2-night stay at Pepper Tree Inn 7/14/2011

We thoroughly enjoyed our 2-night stay at Pepper Tree Inn. When we booked the room on the Internet, we chose one of the least expensive options, so while the room was a little small, we consciously selected value over luxury. I appreciated this option! With that said, it was a comfortable room, beautifully decorated in a "lake cabin" motif, with amenities such as an in-room coffee pot with a coffee bean grinder, and a microwave and fridge that came in handy. The staff was super nice and helpful. The young lady who checked us in and worked the front desk during the evenings we were there was great -- I wish I had asked for her name! One thing I didn't think about, having never visited Tahoe before, is that air conditioning is not needed most of the year. Hence, our room did not have an A/C unit. When we realized that, we wanted to open windows to get some air moving before we went to bed. The front window was locked (a good thing), and getting it open was a little tricky. I went to the front desk to ask for help. The young lady did not know how to unlock the window, but she made a quick phone call to a co-worker, Aaron, who was not even on duty that night, and he gladly talked me through the process over the phone. Awesome! more

The view of lake Tahoe was breathtaking 7/13/2011

We stayed on the 6th floor room in this hotel. The view of lake Tahoe was breathtaking. We greatly enjoyed the hot waffles and the variety and spread of the breakfast. Parking was available close to the elevator. The superior double room we stayed in was a little small for 1 queen bed and 1 double bed, so if you expect space around you may find the room cramped. The hotel is centrally located to many nearby activities. Overall our stay was comfortable at this hotel. more

The hotel is above average 7/11/2011

The hotel is above average. Very good customer service. Manager is very curteous and professional. Very honest people... Breakfast is plentiful. more

views from the lake here are breathtaking! 7/7/2011

We picked up some delicious sandwiches at the Fat Cat Cafe and kept them in the fridge in the overnight for a picnic lunch the next day. If you're up before breakfast (served at 7a.m.), The Bagelry is right across the street and has delicious coffee and a cozy, local atmosphere. The early-morning views from the lake here are breathtaking! more

This hotel is in a great location 7/6/2011

This hotel is in a great location - close to restaurants, shopping, boat rentals, the paddle boat cruise, and ski rentals. Our room was decorated like a mountain cabin (so cute!) and had a coffee bean grinder/brewer. It's exactly what you'd expect for the price - nothing fancy, but clean and cozy. The breakfast is fantastic! If you can, ask for a room on the top floor so that you don't hear your neighbors' feet above you (the floors creak a lot). The only downside was that our shower didn't drain quickly, so we had to wait 30 min. between showering or risk flooding the floor. I'm sure they would have moved us if we complained - the guy at the desk was as nice as could be - but it wasn't a big deal. more

fantastic views of the lake 6/16/2011

Stayed 1 night. Booked 2 rooms on 7th floor - fantastic views of the lake. The rooms were clean and the beds comfortable. Our rooms were a good size. Free WiFi. Friendly & helpful reception. But - no Air-con. As a result, glad we only booked 1 night. Did not get a good night's sleep - way too hot. Breakfast was good - well stocked with a good variety of eats. Good quality food. Good coffee. Only quibble : the plastic knives were practically useless. Really took from what was otherwise a fine breakfast. more

friendly staff 6/14/2011

Even though we paid for an economy room, the friendly staff had upgraded us to an upper floor, remodled room when we arrived. The room had a terrific view of the lake and was nicely decorated, although a little small. The hotel doesn't have air conditioning, but that wasn't a problem, even in July! Located in Tahoe City, the hotel is walking distance from many shops and restaurants, which is really convenient. We liked that it was away from the hustle and bustle of South Shore, but still had a great atmosphere. We would definately return. more

Pretty good deal 6/10/2011

Upon arrival, the outside of the hotel didn't impress us too much. However, we were pretty impressed by the quality of the rooms and the view. The rooms don't dazzle you with fancy chandeliers or anything. But they are exactly what we were looking for. Clean, cozy, quiet, and as my girlfriend put it.... "really cute." Not to mention the jacuzzi tub was really nice. We were in one of the tower rooms, so the view was really nice too. We booked through Expedia ($96 a night, I think) and didn't have any problems with the front desk staff. I must admit, they weren't the friendliest or most talkative of people, but they weren't rude either. We agreed we would love to stay here again. Pretty good deal we think. more

Continental breakfast was great! 6/9/2011

My husband took me here for Mother's Day and I was pleasantly surprised. We stayed on the 7th flr. which had an excellent view of Lake Tahoe and a hot tub. The room was very clean and had all the necessities. I did not speak to anyone at the front desk or w/reservations so I can't comment on it. Continental breakfast was great! more

clean 6/8/2011

The negative reviews posted here have me somewhat mystified. This hotel is an excellent choice given the rates and the location. If you're looking for a clean, large-ish, modern hotel room for a reasonable rate, in a quaint town on Lake Tahoe with every amenity within three blocks, all of which is a half hour from world class skiing, than the Pepper Tree is a sure thing. It delivers on everything you would want and could reasonably expect from a mid-range hotel. If you're looking for resort-style treatment then drop $300-$400 a night and stay in the village at Squaw. After having stayed at Pepper Tree, I can only think the negative reviews posted stem from expectations well beyond those which should be foisted on a hotel in this range. Stay here with confidence. I think this place is getting a bum rap on this site. more

The view was beautiful! 6/2/2011

My husband and I really enjoyed our stay here. The most outstanding was the view. I would definatly recommend the 6th or 7th floor. The view on the bottom floors was mainly the traffic and buildings across the street. The staff was pleasant and helpful. The rooms were clean and smoke free. The linens blankets and pillows were soft and fresh smelling. The high ceilings gave a more spacious feel to the room. The breakfast room was another highlight of our stay. A spacious room with several tabels and decorated in a country tahoe theme. Very clean. The several complimentary choices were fresh and tasty, also great coffee. A simple way to start the day, we even got to know our neighbors, who were on there honeymoon. The only complaint was the pool. It was located in front of the hotel next to the busy street, there was no privacy, just a chain link fence and the traffic. The noise and the gas fumes were a little annoying, not to mention the school bus traffic on that corner. I would recommend skipping the pool and going to the great beach just a short walk away. oh yea, I forgot to mention the beds were a little on the hard side. Overall we had a great time, very relaxing, and would go back again. The prices were great. The view was beautiful! Many shops and restaurants near by. more

Close to everything 5/31/2011

I stayed here twice in the last year n it's been a good expirience, it's close to restaurants and groceries store. more

Our experience was good 5/26/2011

I have to echo the earlier reviewer who was mystified by the negative reviews of this place. Our experience was a good one from beginning to end. Our room was very clean and nicely furnished with a large TV, microwave, small fridge, and very comfy Sleep Number bed. The view was spectacular and, yes, there was a huge jacuzzi tub in slate-tiled bathroom. (Not all rooms have the tub -- or the view. If you want them, make sure you're booking a room that has them.) The closet was off at the back so was almost like a walk-in and held all our ski stuff easily. The one complaint I had was that the heater thermostat didn't seem to work -- it seemed to be either "off" or "on". The staff was friendly and I received emails before the stay asking if we had any questions / concerns, and after making sure everything had been OK. This is not a luxury hotel. It is a motel, but a decent one, especially for the price. I would definitely stay there again more

sparkling clean 5/25/2011

The facility is very central to Tahoe City—close walking distance to most of the restaurants and shopping. The front desk was helpful, courteous & friendly at check in and checkout. On-site parking was never a problem (even though the property was full). Our room was on the 5th floor and was clean and comfortable. We noted it to be a rather standard motel type room, with the extra touch of a larger than usual refrigerator, a small microwave, and the coffee set-up include beans that you grind yourself. The décor and furniture was in very good condition and there was updated flooring in the bath. There is no a/c, but we did not need it (but a portable fan is provided in the room). During our stay, we had a nice breeze through the room by opening the window in front and in the bathroom. We had no problems with noise, from either the street or other rooms. The included continental breakfast was good, but not great. Standard continental items: yogurt, cereals, sweet rolls, mini muffins, bagels (w/ toaster), toast, etc. There were also waffles that could be heated in the microwave, but we did not try them. Fresh fruit was not provided but would have been a welcome addition. The breakfast room was clean and well maintained, and service staff was constantly on duty cleaning tables and keeping everything properly stocked. We did not use the pool, but noted it is in a poor location—right next to the busy street—noisy and no privacy to relax. Seems like it is best suited only for a quick cooling dip on a hot day. However, we did note that it was sparkling clean. Overall, above average motel with all the necessities at a reasonable price. more

Amazing everything! 5/24/2011

The PTI is well maintained, in a great location, and provided a good value for the price. There are many restaurants, formal dining, casual, fast food, ice cream/coffee shops all only steps away. Not to mention the amazing view of Lake Tahoe! I couldn't get the wifi to work for me, and the person at the front desk referred me to the 800#. Luckily, being so close to the shops in the area, I was able to pick up the free wifi from that. This is great for those who are there for a pleasure trip. After spending the day in and around the lake, it was great to walk to dinner and not worry about driving. more

Most inviting 5/23/2011

Upon arrival in Tahoe City, this Inn is apparent, however not in the most charming manner. Yet there is some draw to this uncharacteristic structure. The pool is inviting with its' blue hue and sparkling waters.I found the staff to be most inviting, particularly when compared with the surrounding options. Without reservations, my options were expressed in an easily understood manner. Having lost my AAA membership card during recent travels, the Innkeeper provided the necessary support to discount the room rate accordingly. Friendly and helpful in all manner, the staff was above the grade. The renovated rooms were superior in design to most in the area. A warm, and pleasing feel of comfort welcomes the traveler upon entrance to their room. Ammenities are abundant without overwhelming the space. The continental breakfast goes beyond normal selections. A presentation of healthy, delicious foods, and beverages await consumption. The peaceful setting found on my trip was enjoyable. As my stay was on the weekend before the start of school, I feel that these conditions are likely to be found in the off-season. I would recommend a stay at this Inn, noting that like all summer/winter destinations, seasonal variations are to be expected. more
