I earned my first bike selling Chicago Tribune subscriptions at the age of 7. Biking was the most freeing, fun experience of my life. That hasnt changed. After every bike ride I could say, What a good trip! I had fun. Later I took bike trips of several weeks, and then wrote a book about bicycling.
Age and a move to the mountains left me driving to the store instead of biking because frankly, biking up a mountain with groceries wore me out.
I wasnt going to give up one of my favorite past times; I just wanted it to be easier. An electric bike could help. In my research, I found the Pedego bike had appealing assets.
First and most important; it had disc brakes--no failures braking downhill. It was well made and comfortable. When I called Pedego and actually got Don, I was sold. Service was fantastic. In 2010 we got two Pedego electric bikes. Three years later they are still fun and the batteries are still reliable.
On one of our first trips we drove two hours to bike in the Allegheny mountains, then realized we forgot the batteries. We biked anyway and never got tired.
Even without batteries the Pedego is easy to pedal. However, we never forgot the batteries again; we even brought along the charger. Then when we biked 20 miles and stopped for lunch, we plugged in the battery (usually at a diner.) After we ate, a half-hour later, the full-charged-green light was back on and we were on our way.
Those two Pedego Cruisers are still going strong, as are the batteries. Because friends are constantly borrowing them, we are now looking at the Pedego Interceptor bike.
We agree entirely with the Wall Street Journal article that notes, Pedego is the Lincoln Town Car of electric bikes--cushy, comfortable and like a lounge chair on wheels. Id add, reliable and safe.
