Food good, Owner is out of control 5/16/2011

I am visiting here from Chicago. My cousin frequents Paulie's because of their food. She wanted to take me there to experience it. The experience was HORRIBLE. They first almost over charged us by $10.00. Our meal was $25.87 and the cashier rung it up for over $35.00. But we caught the error, stuff happens. While we were waiting for our food, I wanted to order a latte. Since they didn't have soy milk, the waitress suggested an Americano (double). I decided I only wanted to pay for one shot of Americano. She was rude when I changed it--before she prepared it-- and she serve me a regular coffee. I was taken aback more from her rudeness and asked to speak to the manager. As I was explaining my concern to him (actual owner), he literally cut me off and said ""if you don't like how we serve coffee, don't order it."" WOW. I was shocked. I decided, if this is how he was going to handle me (as a customer), I don't want to eat his food! I took my order back and asked for my refund and kindly told him why. His response was to the ""coffee girl"" refund her the money, Jesus Christ! She figured out how much it was and threw it on the counter. A customer witnessed it and told me that she comes there often and told the waitress she was rude. The owner came over and told me to ""get out and never come back and...he put his hands on me. I told him to take his hand off of me. He threatened to call the police and I invited him to. That was the worse experience I've ever encounted! His food may be good, but even if he didn't ask me to come back, I wouldn't have. There are some instances where service isn't so great or rather bad and you think to yourself, I'm not coming back or using those services again. But after a while you give it another shot, just to give the business another chance and the benefit of the doubt. Usually, it's much better. Paulie's, on the other hand is a place where good service would be sporadic! If you eat there, you would may enjoy your food, but good luck with the service! I don't know about you, but there are hundreds of places where food is very good and many of those have great service. Food doesn't taste good when service is distasteful! more

Yummy! 5/15/2009

A favorite hangout for Lanier moms! \r \r Hands down the best grilled chicken anywhere! add it to the big salad, cesar or any pasta - you will be so glad you did! today was my first time to try the grilled salmon - i am not a big fish eater...honestly - it was delicious - i look forward to enjoying it again! also love the grilled veggies (with chicken added of course!)\r \r I highly recommend the adorable shortbread cookies - if you look at their website you will see the vast array of cookies available to order - i just picked up 2 dozen of the cupcakes for a birthday party - everyone LOVED them!\r \r The staff is very friendly - tables get bussed straight away and are ready for the next lucky diner!\r \r Now if they only served breakfast too!\r \r Hope you enjoy Paulie's as much as i do! Pros: Delicious healthy food Cons: parking - but it is westheimer what else would you expect more

A real find!! 3/8/2009

I found Paulie's by accident one day and have been back at least once a week since!! The paninis are incredible and VERY filling. I have become hooked on their grilled tuna sandwiches with wasabi mayo and Italian potato salad. The staff is always courteous and the meals are all affordable. Do yourself a favor and try this place. You wont be disappointed!!! more

Neat lil joint... 7/26/2008

My first experience of Paulie's was pretty good. I had one of the panini sandwiches with turkey, bacon and swiss cheese. Not sure what kind of bread they used, but I think I would prefered a different style of bread. The sandwhich was a good portion. I ended up eating half the sandwhich and doggy bagging the rest. The pasta salad that complimented the sandwhich was pretty good. It was made of shell shaped pasta with olive oil and i blieve artichoke and other stuff. I also tried one of their cookies that so many ppl were raving about. It was a round shaped cookie with some strawberry preserve in the middle. It tasted like a poptart. Overall I was very pleased with the food and ambiance. I'll surely go back, since there were more items on the menu that I wanted to try. more

I cried 6/19/2008

tears of joy after trying this place for the first time. I'm a fan of gazpacho and Paulies serves the freshest. I later tried the salmon sandwich. The filet on this sandwhich is huge and delicious. Shrimp on a BLT??!! Well why not. The shrimp BLT was a nice suprise and like the other sandwichs...D'licious! It's a quaint little place perfect for lunch and easy for dinner. Pros: Clean, cute, delicious more

CRAVE THEIR SALADS! 5/12/2008

I?M OBSESSED WITH THEIR GRILLED CHICKEN CAESAR SALAD! I AM NOT A TYPICAL ONLY LIKES ONE LETTUCE LEAF AND A CROUTON GIRL, SO FOR ME TO ACTUAL NEED TO HAVE THIS SALAD, IS A BIG DEAL. MY FIANCE LOVE?S THEIR SHRIMP PASTA DISH AS WELL, BUT I CAN?T GET OVER HOW MUCH JUICY CHICKEN IS IN THERE =) IT?S DEFIANTLY A GREAT LITTLE HANG OUT! Pros: THEIR SALADS AND COOKIES ARE MY FAVORITES Cons: THE SERVICE ISN'T ALWAYS AS NICE, THERE IS ONE WAITRESS WHO MAKES UP FOR ALL THE OTHER STAFF, BUT IT'S STILL WORTH IT! more

Average food, lousy service 5/6/2008

Unfortunately, I will never go back to this restaurant even though it is so close to my home. Since we just had a baby, cooking has not really been an option and we had been ordering out to Paulie's almost once a week, and recommending it to relatives who come by to visit the baby.\r I recently learned that my baby has very serious food allergies and I'm on a strict diet for breastfeeding and it limits me to what I can eat. I ordered something to go and when it got home I was nervous the dish had an ingredient that was not part of the diet. Concerned I called to ask about it. They accused me of lying and asked me to bring the dish in. I did, and to clarify what the ingredient was, the staff insulted me, insinuating maliciousness and that I was enjoying wasting my time coming back up to the restaurant, starving and really just wanting to eat.\r Save your time and money and go to any number of comparable restaurants with better atmosphere and better service on Westheimer. Pros: Quick Cons: Bad service, little parking, expensive to comparable restaurants in the area more

Best looking and tasting Sugar Cookies in town! 4/30/2008

Love the food and the dessert! Pizzas and paninis, salads, and pastas are all great! The sugar cookies are the best in town. I am getting these cookies for my wedding as favors... i love them so much! Pros: FOOD!!! Cookies! Pizza! Iced Tea! Price! Cons: Hmm... none. more

Order the Shrimp Sandwich 9/10/2007

A new take on the traditional BLT fare, their grilled shrimp BLT sandwich is bursting with flavor. I've had this sandwich 3 times, and I'm stuck on it. They'll substitute a wheat roll for the white if you ask. It's served with a side of eggless potato salad. They use red new potatoes, and I like that it's not slathered with heavy mayo. The Mediterranean pasta with pesto vinaigrette is also a winner. It has shell pasta with spinach, celery, calamata olives, artichoke hears, and feta. Ladies, the ""small"" serving is the perfect portion size.\r \r I normally eat here on weekend afternoons, and the one downside to this place are a few of the cashiers/order takers. How can I put this ever so kindly . . . but these guys are afflicted. Sleep deprivation, hangover, or just plain dumb. I can't figure it out. I've been told the staff working days are on top of their game, so I'll make a point to stop in on my lunch hour one of these days. Pros: remarkable sandwiches, salads, great location Cons: parking, weekend staff more

bad service correction 4/11/2007

sorry i meant the holcombe/bellaire location, not the westheimer location Cons: they need to fire that manager! more

a trendy italian restaurant 11/20/2006

the food is good although i wouldn't say it has the home-cooked qualities and mom-and-pop charm to it like the smaller italian restaurants do. same goes with the ambience: i love how it's located on the eclectic end of westheimer, but it's coporate-trendy presence seems out of place and not as cozy or homey as one should expect from an italian restaurant. one of it's other highlights is the mini pastry display, which is delectable to look at. but i think i'll stick to the other cozy italian restaurants that'll give me a better dining experience on a more personal level.* Pros: food, location Cons: parking, does not have the charm of a quaint italian restaurant more

addictive cookies 7/11/2005

i have been going to paulie's for a long time because i am addicted to their decorated shortbread cookies, but i miss the days when i had time to sit and eat on a regular basis. the food is consistently good and the atmosphere is pleasant. more

Great deal!!! 5/6/2005

2 veal chops, pasta, AND salad for under $30!!!. Way cheaper and the chops taste way better than Carrabba's or even a more high end restaurant. Pros: food, price, variety more

Delicious! 8/24/2004

Paulie's has delicious paninis - I love it for lunch. The Greek pasta salad that accompanies much of their menu items is excellent. One of my FAVORITE lunch spots. Reasonably quick service and excellent food. The only slight drawback is that the place is somewhat small, and you have to keep your eyes peeled for an open table. more

Great Place! 8/19/2003

Paulie's is always great! The food is fresh and always yummy!!! The cookies are to die for & very pretty. I have never been let down at Paulie's! Pros: Great Food!, Great Service!, Fun Atmosphere! Cons: There are none more
