All Things Sporty 5/24/2006

Whenever I need a sport-specific item (other than running shoes) I head to this well trafficked spot. COnveniently located in Union Square, Paragon has just about everything. The staff can be hit or miss, I've had a great sales person help me gear up for a Costa Rica trip, but I also suffered through a few dimwits trying to help with hiking boots. They have a good selection of women's athletic gear and sports bras on the first floor. I swear by Champion, but I don't have that much to support. Go try on a bunch a styles and jump up and down in the dressing room. Try to avoid shopping on weekends. more

Has it All 12/30/2005

Paragon Sports has it all. They have everything you are looking for in top of the line sports equipment for any sport you are looking for or are interested in. The staff here is very knowledgeable about the section they are assigned to and have most of the answers you will have about the equipment you are looking for. The down side is that you will be paying top dollar for the top of the line equipment as well. If you are looking for the top of the line equipment you are in the right place. I f you want a bargain, keep hunting somewhere else. more

this place rocks 10/21/2005

it is the best sports store in nyc by far. and between their different employees they speak like 250 languages so it doesnt matter where youre from unless its mars cause theyll find someone that can help you find the right jogbra or hockey shaft or whatever youre looking for. the pretty much have a specialist dpt for every type of sport imaginable. more

Paragon Sports 8/29/2005

Paragon Sports seems to be a step above your regular sporting goods store. The staff is always very knowledgeable and helpful. There are always people on the floor who are able to answer questions. They have everything you could imagine that you would need for your sporting needs. The prices are competitive and the service is hard to beat. more

Everything to set you up to participate in your favorite sport 8/26/2005

When you are looking to stock up on top line equipment for any type of sports, especially camping, this is a great place to head. They are all very knowledgeable, and will ask you all the right questions to make sure you buy everything you'll need. Don't forget to also stock up on a flashlight or two - they will always come in handy. The pricing is fair, and the quality is top rate more

best sports store in nyc 8/22/2005

they should charge admission to get into this place. i could spend hours and hours here. i buy almost everything from these guys. the only problem is some of the sales associates arent that knowledgeable. the guy who used to hang out in the hockey section used to babble to me about how he used to be a 'hedge fund manager'. he very well may have been cause he didnt know the difference between a puck and a squash ball. more

Everything Sports Under the Sun 8/21/2005

Paragon can handle all of your sporting needs. They have one of the larger selections of soccer jerseys and apparel in the city, an entire section devoted to women's sports, and an enormous footwear department with cleats, sneakers, and sandals. If you like golf, you can try out your club before you buy it in their swing cage. It is not too far from Union Square, and has everything you need. more

This place has it all! 8/21/2005

One of the best sporting goods stores I've ever seen. The store is divided into sports sections. Each section has its' own sales persons who are familiar with that particular sport. I go to Paragon for their roller/inline skating section. They have a decent variety of inline skates (both aggressive and fitness) and the best variety of old-school quad skates in the city. Combined with a supply of pads, wheels, bearing and other gear, it's a one stop shop for skaters. more

where to go to get you going 8/20/2005

If it's designed to make you play better, run faster, move more quickly, get fitter and look better doing it, you'll find it at Paragon. From Aerobics to weight lifting, softball to lacrosse, swimming to .. well you get the idea.. Paragon has the equipment and the clothing to outfit you for any activity that involves moving, You could even just buy the clothes and look good sitting around. more

everything related to sports 8/19/2005

They're really convenient to get to, and the store is surprisingly huge though it doesn't look that way from the outside. Inside you'll find everything you need for any sport. They have all the name brands, and a couple of the lesser known brands. Heck, you can even get a kayak if you wanted to in the store. I usually go here to get sport clothing. They also have a good selection of outdoor sneakers. The got my last pair of mountain climbing shoes here at a good price. I'd definitely check this place out as they will most likely have what you're looking for. more

Who says you have to go to a national chain to find the best sporting goods 8/18/2005

Paragon Sports proves that you do not need to shop at a national chain to find the very best sporting goods. The staff here really know the sports they sell supplies for, and the quality of their products are top drawer. New York's legions of joggers have sworn by Paragon for years, and that loyalty extends to other sports as well. Tip: Don't miss the clearance racks in the basement. more

Stores within a store 8/18/2005

Paragon tries to cover every sport and even though it seems like they would spread themselves thin, they do a pretty good job covering many sports well. The bike shop, ski & snowboard shop, and tennis shop and sneaker shop are all great. Staff is knowledgeable. It gets crazy in here near the holidays, though. Ski & snowboard bus trips in the winter, with or without rental equipment, are available. more

Unique Sports Store in Union Square that has it all 8/17/2005

Paragon is one of those cool, non-chain stores in the city located near Union Square. They have equipment for practically every sport imaginable. I like the tennis selections they have and they always have decent swimwear. I also like this store because you can get specialized service from the pros. I bought my rollerblades from Paragon after a lengthy and helpful discussion from some pro skater dudes that work there. During the winter, they also have a ski package that includes a bus and lift ticket to Hunter Mountain; the bus picks up and drops off at Paragon. All in all, a good store for one-stop sports shopping but a bit on the pricey side. If you're looking for a sale, then head to Sports Authority or some other chain. But if you want a good selection with good advise, then this is the store for you. more

Sports Superstore is Sub-Par 8/17/2005

Paragon is a huge warehouse of a place. That is the only good feature of the store - they will have what you are looking for. The cons are many. The prices are high. The staff are ill-informed and often rude. The store can be hard to shop, as things are not organized in a sensible manner. Whether your purchase is large or small, the customer service is non-existent. And once you possess an item, they couldn't care less about it. Not even care or maintenance assistance on a major purchase like home gym equiptment. Give this one a pass. more

Good Store 8/16/2005

Man do they have everything. Tennis, basketball, baseball, sking.. you name it they have it. the store can be a zoo at times, particularly during the weekends so it is best to go after wook or during a weekday. Prices are reasonable for new york city and the service is good. Overall good rating. more

NY Sports 8/15/2005

While not cheap--seems to be a theme in NYC, this is one of--if not the only--all inclusive, something for everyone sports store in NYC. They have a very good selection of running apparel and a great ski clothing selection. Their sales are reasonably good. Their sales staff can be rather poor to average depending on department. I have found their sneaker and running gear departments to be particularly weak. If you know what you want and are prepared to pay full price this is a good choice. more

paragon 8/13/2005

paragon is a great place for sport and camping equipment. it is locate just by the union square, a cool and trendy place. they have huge verity of equipment, mustly the best names and brands, but the problem is the price, pargon is extremly expensive compering it to other similar shop. by buying on line you will have a better deal but is it easy to buty on line? you can not see you can not tuch. so you will have to make your mind mean while the shop is great value to new yorkers. more

Granddaddy of Manhattan Sports Stores 8/6/2005

It's not exactly hard to find a shop that sells sporting goods in Manhattan. The island is crammed full of retail stores, after all. However, it is quite hard to find a truly good, general purpose sporting good store. In my experience, Manhattan sports stores tend towards being either chains or specialists. Chains are good if you know what you want and don't need service, since they have low prices. Similarly, you might need a specialist if you are really into mountain-climbing/roller blading/whatever your extreme sport is. But what if you just want good sporting equipment, aren't an expert, and need some good professional advice on what you should get? I think Paragon Sports fills that role pretty well. They're probably not as cheap as the discount chains, but their prices struck me as reasonable. Their staff for the most part know what they're selling, which is increasingly rare in this world of chain stores. Well worth a look if you need quality sporting gear. more

Lots of one thing 8/5/2005

Store is huge and easy to get around in, but the inventory is a little lacking. There's a great selection of backpacks, but the exercise equipment they have like one or two brands. Prices are average for new york, but not better than the sales that a sports chain store will have. Watch the stair case, it's a little steep -- wish they had an escalator or something. more

Large Sporting Good Store 8/4/2005

It's a pretty big store as there are several levels. I believe there is a basement and three floors. Most of the items are expensive, but you can always catch things on sale. They don't carry everything though. I went with a friend to find some North Face gloves, but they didn't have them. The other gloves were above 40 dollars. There is something for everyone if you aren't too particular about anything. They have sports equipment, jackets, other items of clothing, and sneakers. more
