Best

Undoubtedly the best gelato in ATL. Sure, Paolo has all kinds of sweet treats on display (I'm curious about the chocolate pyramids) but don't get distracted -- you want the gel...

Worst

Besides the rude lady who makes you feel like you're not even welcome in the store which is backwards, this place is the only place I know of in Atlanta that sells Gelato unless s...

The best gelato in the Highlands 9/16/2002

Paolo is a very gregarious Italian who will explain exactly what goes into each gelato without you even asking. The gelato has to be among the best, though definitely not economical. But then again, how much would you pay for the best? Pros: Delicious, Good Ambiance, Superb service Cons: Bad parking, Pricey more

Very favorite 8/28/2002

It's not ice cream...it's gelato! My favorite place to go in the highlands. Great gelato made by a awesome italian man. I love this place! more

The gelato King 8/20/2002

I went to Paolo's the other night after reading about him in Bon Appetit magazine and was so impressed with the real Italian flavors of his gelato. But the flower flavors were the best! My personal faves are the jasmine and violet. Pros: Variety, authenticity, creativity more

Paolo is a Star 8/8/2002

What a great neighborhood gelato joint! Paolo, the owner, will take good care of you and hes always in a jovial mood. The after-dinner crowds can be pretty brutal and if you wait until too late, you may not get the flavor youre craving. Still, favorites like mint chocolate chip and raspberry are worth waiting in line for during peak hours. A perfect stop during a Sunday night Highlands stroll. Pros: Paolo, gelato Cons: crowds more

Just like Sorrento 8/8/2002

I traveled to Sorrento in 2000 and had my first gelato. I have since searched to find something that even REMOTELY resembled what I had there. Paolo's is the winner. The varieties of fruit flavours match the varieties found in Italy. Buon Apetito and enjoy Paolo's! Pros: Genuine Gelato, Great Varieties, Friendly Service Cons: Can get crowded more

Gelato has to be Italian! 8/7/2002

Paolo's is hands-on. He makes an excellent gelato and gives the best service. more

Sherry 8/6/2002

All I can say is Paolo's gelato is perfection in a cup. Don't waste your time anywhere else. This is it. Pros: small, friendly, great neighborhood more

Viva Paolo! 8/6/2002

Grazie, Paolo, for choosing Atlanta as the spot to launch your gelateria. The gelati here is creamy and silky, and he offers flavors you can't find anywhere else in the States (rose, anyone?) Paolo's is a haven for expatriate Italians longing for a little taste of home, and the staff is as sweet as the treats they dish out. more

Gelato- the only way to go 7/31/2002

Paolo's is the perfect place to end a summer night in the Highlands. Easily walkable from any of the popular restaurants and bars. The gelato itself is creamy and dreamy. yum. more

Wiseguys and wanabes will love Paolo's 7/27/2002

Ciao Paolo, is the customary greeting when stepping into this neighborhood gelato stand in Va-Hi. Owner Paolo Della Zorza is friendly to all. Whether pizano or tourist, you are welcome at Paolo's Gelato is an Italian dessert made with milk, double cream, sugar and fresh ingredients like strawberries, chocolate, leeches, peaches, lemon, etc, depending on the flavor. Paolo's creations, made fresh daily, are delicious. It's the ideal summer dessert, much better than a chain ice cream shop. Besides gelato, Paolo also delivers on cannolis made while you wait and ""art"" which are gelatos desserts with clever themes. Depending on the night, the line can get long and seats on the outside benches are scarce. Scarcer still is parking. Don't let that deter you. Once you've tasted the best gelato this side of Roma, you will be considered a ""friend of ours."" Fuhgeddaboutit. Pros: Location, Reasonable Price, Great Desserts Cons: No Parking more

Odie is unfair to Paolo 7/19/2002

For example, Paolo uses solely imported Italian spatulas for scooping his gelato into cups, yet Odie criticizes him for not using any spatulas. Odie also claims that the owner of What's the Scoop is italian, despite that the owner is vocal about his Israeli heritage. Paolos is frequented by lots of native Italians who love the gelato, and it seems hard to believe that Odie has the experience he claims when his review is full of false information. more

Far from Authentic Gelato 6/30/2002

Just because Paolo is from Italy, doesn't mean his Gelato is Authentic. After spending an extensive amount of time in Italy and Germany(which prepares ice cream similarly), I would say his lacks a creamy texture. It tastes watery or some substitute. Paolo also serves it with an ice cream scoop, which is not what Italians use to serve gelato. A spatula is used for this ice cream. I would recommend ""what's the scoop"" for a more authentic taste. Sure, they might be Americans serving, but the Italian owner uses better ingredients. Pros: Nice Atmosphere Cons: Pricey, Watery more

Tired of the same old thing.... 6/26/2002

Tired of the same old thing? Give Paolo a chance! This Gelato is a great change of pace after dinner in the Highlands. Go back often...there are always new flavors! more

if you haven't been here yet, GO! 6/13/2002

This place is so good. The gelato is amazing. I have been there a few times and I have always been very impressed. Very friendly staff too... This is a great area of town to take someone new to Atlanta and get them some of the most unique dessert around... more
