Luxury place 4/5/2011

The Palms is the best place on Fire Island to stay. I am totally satisfied with their service. Stuff is great. Design of the rooms and outsides is amazing. Every time I come back there they have some new rooms, services or other changes. Looks like the owners work a lot to keep the place up to date. For example having the Palms bottled water delivered to the beach by a palms employee was awesome. This people take a good care of their guests even out of their property. If you didn’t decide yet where to stay during your trip to OB, without doubt – The Palms! more

FINALLY.. Luxury on Fire Island 2/16/2011

I have stayed at The Palms a few times since it's opening with a group of my girlfriends. Every trip has been amazing. \r \r Starbucks in the mornings, beach chairs and towels provided, and private outside areas for guests where you can eat & drink(if you know Ocean Beach, you know it's hard to find a spot outside to do this, unless you have a house)! Not to mention, the beds are SO comfortable. My king size bed during our last stay felt like a cloud.\r \r Granted, the town and hotel can get a bit crowded, but I've actually made friends with other guests while staying there who I'm planning my next trip with! \r \r The staff is wonderful. So accomodating and friendly! Check in always feels like a family reunion. \r \r When you head to Fire Island, this is the only place to stay. Ask for Ashley, Bobby or Courtney. They'll treat you right. more

Just what the doctor ordered.... 2/15/2011

I stayed at the Palms with my family and we had a wonderful time! We relaxed and enjoyed each other's company in the peaceful setting of the hotel and the surrounding community. The hotelier and staff were exceptionally warm and helpful and made us feel right at home. Our rooms were tastefully decorated, gracefully appointed and spotless. We enjoyed our time at The Palms and will go back again and again. I definitely recommend staying here! more

Bedbug Central 9/12/2009

One word: bedbugs. Not only was the place incredibly noisy (college age kids having parties til 4AM in the hallways), and ridiculously expensive, it was also filthy and had awful service. There was sand in the sheets of the bed (meaning they hadnt washed it in who knows how long) and when we asked them to change the sheets, they never did. But most importantly: bedbugs. The place had bedbugs. At something like $300 a night, you dont expect bedbugs. And yet they had them. Disgusting. Pros: Location Cons: Bedbugs, Unclean, Expensive, Rude Service more

There's only 1 place to stay in Ocean Beach 1/27/2009

I stayed at the Palms II with a bunch of girlfriends and I can only say wonderful things about it! Reservations were a piece of cake to make, everyone I dealt with from start to finish was super friendly and made me feel really welcome and comfortable. The feel and decor of the whole hotel was warm and welcoming, much better than any of the other generic hotels in the area which from my experience were ratty and unkept. Not only was this hotel completely chic, it was super clean, a major must in my book if you know what I mean. Oh yeah, and no need to lug your own beach chairs or towels. They had plenty for me and all my girlfriends + wagons to get our stuff to and from the beach. I would recommend staying here to anyone. My family will absolutely be staying here on future visits!!!! Pros: Service, Location, Ambience more

Overpriced Dirty Dorm! 7/7/2008

If you want to pay more than $290 a night for a dorm then this is the place to be! The hostel-dorm was dirty, (sand in our bed sheets) and the bathroom (only 1 on the 2nd floor) was shared by over 8 other guest rooms. It was constantly occupied, and when we finally got our chance to shower, it was trashed with toilet paper and sand. I think they cleaned it once a day. The dorm was very noisy, I slept with earplugs every night (not exactly a relaxing beach getaway) and the room itself, was the size of an average walk-in closet. Barely big enough to fit a DOUBLE-BED (not a standard Queen). We were told there is one bathroom for every 2 rooms, which was obviously a complete exaggeration, considering the other 5 bathrooms were on a different floor in a different area of the hotel! We complained about being misled, but the manager did not want to even hear our complaints. To add insult to injury, our TV was not working, we were missing a DVD player and remote control, that all the other rooms are equipped with. When we aked to have it fixed, the hotel manager accused us of ""losing"" the remote control (she asked if there was a chance we threw it out with our food or put it in our bags!) Rather than being apologetic to the fact that our tv/remote weren't working - she was condescending and said ""she realizes that we grew up with TV - but we'll have to get used to 1 wknd without those amenities!"" This was a completely unacceptable response we PAID for a room with a working TV and remote - and if we didn't have it - we should get a discount. She refused us a discount and refused to apologize for the inconvenience. While the conditions were disgusting and the price was outrageous, the worst part was that the management of this hotel was inconsiderate and unaccommodating. I would rather give my business to good business people, who actually care about making their customers happy. This was BY FAR the most awful hotel experience I have ever had in my life. Pros: Decent Location Cons: Rude Management, Dirty and Cramped accommodations more

Now The Palms 6/21/2006

This place was recently renovated and is now called ""the palms"". we happened upon it after being rented a vile ""cottage"" at the Seasons B&B. It's clean, attractive and has bikes, beach-chair and wagons available for their customers. We checked out their mini-suites (tiny, but efficient) and apartments (huge!) for future reference - both very nice! Pros: clean, attractive. use of bikes, wagons Cons: rooms are VERY TINY. more
