i organized a casual get-together with a bunch of disparate friends and it was the ideal place to meet up. i wanted a place where people could feel comfortable mingling around if they didn't necessarily know anyone else, and where people could also have the option of going to dinner nearby if they wanted.
PS 450 is ideal. you have a good built-in work crowd from the new york life/credit suisse/ziff davis crowd around the area, plus it's a stone's throw from murray hill, so you can go a little more upscale but still not lose the relatively youthful crowd that you would find on third ave. on top of that, you have some great restaurants nearby--les halles, blue smoke, houston's, i trulli, dos caminos, and then all the great restaurants further down park avenue south as you get towards union square.
there's some decent bar food, as well.
Pros: reasonable prices, built-in crowd, good-looking people
Cons: a little crowded
