Buying a new air conditioner in the midst of a record-breaking heatwave can't be fun for anyone, but PC Richard certainly made it even more agonizing. I have an old through-the-wall unit that's original to my co-op, and each PC Richard representative I spoke to at three different locations (all of them rude and bullish) told me I needed a different unit to comply with the measurements/specifications of the existing sleeve and plug. I finally decided on an LG unit, and agreed to suffer through the week it took for them to schedule an installation (they assured me I wouldn't be able to do it myself). When the AC finally arrived, two gorillas wheeled it through my apartment, heaved the old unit out of the window (spewing dirt and water and freon and god knows all over my floor and formerly-beautiful living room rug), and shoved the new one in (scratching and denting the surrounding wall casing) before declaring that it was, in fact, broken, and would have to be taken back to the factory. I've now called PC Richard many times in attempts to schedule a delivery for a replacement AC, and have met with nothing but extremely rude individuals who tell me I will have to wait at least another week. No apologies, no refunds, nothing - just blatant, evil stupidity. I've subsequently learned that the LG air conditioner I was talked into has been recently discontinued (perhaps because it's a piece of junk?), so I imagine they were just trying to clear their warehouse by recommending it to me. Over all, a terrible, upsetting experience, which has left me a heck of a lot poorer - and yes, even more steamed - than I was in the middle of the heatwave a week ago. Save yourselves and your sanity - shop elsewhere!
