Good lunch menu 10/10/2010

We enjoyed a pleasant meal, but it wasn't anything special. The value was quite good since we ordered two lunch specials: an executive bento box and five piece sushi plate with california roll. Each dish came with soup and salad, priced at $15 each. The soup and salad were delicious, and the california rolls were the best I've had in a while because the crap meat was real and fresh (not the crab stick). My nigiri selections were tuna, salmon, eel, shrimp and something I didn't recognize. The fish was only ok, probably more fresh than I could taste, but nothing melted in my mouth. Erica's box came with teriyaki chicken and california roll (choose from a list of four). Again, the roll and cucumber salad were tasty, but Erica did not love her chicken. I agree, the flavoring and sauce did not overwhelm, and the chicken pieces were the mixed cut kind (both dark and white meat chopped randomly). I imagine dinner service is a different experience than lunch, or it would not have made it into the Michelin Guide or other high regards. I can see signs of quality and sophistication, but it did not completely translate during our lunch. The value was very good and I appreciate the service meeting our time constraints. my blog: jjrappeats.blogspot dot com more

Classy Japanese is expensively tasty but chewy 7/19/2006

Went for lunch and the first thing I noticed was the large fish tank. I was seated promptly and a lot of patrons were enjoying the sushi at the bar. I am not a sushi fan so I ordered the executive lunch, $13. You get 2 of 4 choices, and I ordered the teriyaki beef and lemon chicken. The meal came with miso soup and a salad. For an apetizer I got the martini shrimp, $6.50. The shrimp (5) were delighful. Well cooked and coated in a chili mayonaise dressing. The chicken was breaded and baked perfectly. The sauce was not too tart and had just the right amount of lemon. The chef knows his sauces here. Which is why the beef was so good. The teriyaki sauce was perfect. Even though the meat had a little bit of fat and was a bit chewy, I found that it was edible due to the sauce. The extra dozen bites allowed me to enjoy the sauce longer. It is very rare to find meat quality that melts in your mouth. So I'd rank the beef here a six out of 10. The miso was just right. Two almond cookies come with the check. Pros: Shrimp, sauces Cons: meat a little chewy more
