Ortegas is located on Newport Avenue between Cable and Sunset Cliffs. The restaurant is tiny (5 cozy booths and about 8 seats at the counter), but the tastes are big. Our favorites are their torta sandwiches, particularly carne asada and pollo asado. They are super big and can feed even the hungriest appetite. They run about $6 each. They do have a full menu with various plate specials, as well as a nice selection of soups and salads. This is down-home great Mexican food. Street parking right out front. Expect a wait during busy times and weekends, however, it's worth it. They also set up a little take out stand during farmer's market.
