I used to buy meat exclusively at Whole Foods, New Seasons or Costco (choosing only organic from Costco and organic or at least all-natural meats from WF & NS). However, after a friend recommended the Original Bavarian Sausage (OBS) market/restaurant to me, I went in and asked OBS about their meat and learned that it has a 3 day max refrigerator shelf-life, as it contains no preservatives. Also absent from the ingredient/processing list are fillers and hormones. I was surprised by OBS' natural approach to raising meat. Then, I tasted their meat and was even more surprised: Absolutely Delicious!! Their sausage is to die for and will transform your choucroute or German sauerkraut recipe to something beyond great. Their smoked pork chops are also stunning.
The OBS cafe (eat-in) menu is incredibly affordable and good and features a daily special, which is always a great value. The cozy little indoor seating area is filled with Bavarian memorabilia (not fancy, but cozy), and the casual outdoor covered seating area (with picnic tables) is a nice option when weather allows.
The German market options are wonderful, and unlike another reviewer, I have not encountered expired freshness dates in OBS shelf-products. They carry an assortment of German mustards, pickles, and pastas that make everything taste better at home. And if you are a chocoholic like me, their assortment of German and Swiss chocolates will make you blissfully happy.
The OBS staff is friendly and hard-working, and they are proud of their establishment and their products. OBS is a ma & pa market/cafe operated with honesty and integrity, and you can taste the results in every bite.
Parking is easy, and hours are convenient -- except I wish they were open on Sundays, so my husband and I could go for lunch more often!
Pros: Authentic, Affordable & Delicious!
