From the outside this Market Place landmark stands out with its chrome plated, neon signed facade screaming "we love the 50's!" I expected the inside to be a 50's diner with checkered floors, a malt stand next to the jukebox, and waitresses in hoop skirts. The good and bad thing is that its not at all that kind of diner. Instead its the kind of place that James Dean and Marylin Monroe would meet up for a bite and a chat. Rich dark colors, wood, and dark leather give the impression that you're in more of a clubhouse type of diner. Indeed there is no malt/milkshake bar in sight, but they do have a full service bar. I have only been to Old Town for lunch, and the prices aren't outrageous. The food is good, but is your typical diner fare (sandwiches/burgers, fries) but even there you have some surprises. I had the chicken curry sandwich with fries which is very similar to a sandwich at Crispers, but made fresh every day. I walked away with mixed feelings about Old Town. A part of me wanted the diner that I thought it was going to be from the outside.....but a part of me was pleasently surprised to find something more complex and adult. The jury is still out on how I feel....but it's definately worth a visit for a good meal. Even lunch was not inexpensive, my sandwich and fries and a cola were around $8.50. I'm assuming that the dinner menu is in the $15 range.
