Old City Movers

I recently used Old City for my move from about 45 minutes outside of Philly to Center City. Everything about the experience was awesome - the movers even called 15 minutes prior to their scheduled 9 AM arrival to apologize and let me know that they might be 5 minutes late because of traffic! They treated my stuff wonderfully, and moved it through a narrow gate and three flights of steps without anything getting so much as a scratch. In terms of professionalism and speed, all three movers were friendly, efficient, and wonderful. I will definitely make sure to book them for my next move! more

We were extremely stressed out about a moving experience that promised to be brutal. We had to empty the house we were selling on day one, have our stuff overnighted on the truck, then move into our new house the next day after back-to-back settlements. We knew we needed reliable, caring, professional movers to keep us sane! After contacting 3 other movers on the phone, I finally called John at Old City Movers. He was the only one to actually come out to our house to see how much we had. He was really friendly and smart, and assured us that we would be in good hands. On moving day, three friendly, creative, confidence-inspiring guys showed up right on time. They got right to work, on the hottest day of season, and kept up a lightening pace, all the while smiling and chatting and keeping a positive vibe in the air. For me, I think it was that combination of high efficiency coupled with the relaxed and fun attitude that kept me sane. The next day's crew consisted of two new guys plus one from the day before. (I'm so sorry I can't remember your names!) They were all such amazingly creative guys--art-types, musicians--people we would have hung out with 15 years ago when we lived in Northern Liberties. I had heard horror stories from friends using other movers who actually had scary guys smelling of alcohol show up to move. There is something about the culture inside Old City Movers that promotes a real dedication in the guys who work there. They all seem to be highly invested in the business, and thus take on a real level of responsibility to the clients. This was evident at every turn. Let's face it, moving is stressful. These guys were amazing. From the beginning when John came to estimate the job, he immediately put us at ease. We have moved over 10 times, 3 times within the last 4 years, and this was our smoothest move, period. We had 3 rooms of Ikea furniture that required disassembling and reassembling. We were told that it would be no problem and it wasn't for them. Jules, Jay and Travis arrived right on time and went to work right away. They were phenomenal and a pleasure to work with. Extra kudos to Jules who exhibited great skill and knowledge when it came to every aspect of taking apart the furniture and putting it back together just right. These guys were awesome and we would recommend them to anyone. Pros: Reliable, efficient, professional Cons: None I can think of more

When I called this time I told them who I was and despite our track record, they (John) were as POLITE as could be, not to mention complete in the details of the move. Due to traffic, the two movers (P & T) ran late this morning but they called to let me know and in the end, they didn't charge for that time (or their coffee time). The drive to my new place was a few hours. When they arrived they got right to work. I couldn't believe how FAST they worked! And in the end, the price was so AFFORDABLE! I thought a move like this would break the bank, but the price is so REASONABLE! For the work they do, I would say that they are cutting themselves short by 3x the charge. Truly a PLEASURE to work with; I want them for every move in my life! THANK YOU for being SOOOO GREAT!!!!\r \r * I should also note that I have heavy furniture including a big amoir, 4 bookcases that fill a 10 foot wall, a oversized mirror, and two leather sofas - Not a scratch, dink, or tear to be found! I never really write reviews online, but felt compelled to do so this time around. I have used movers before and these guys were probably the best I've used. From my initial conversation with the owner, John to the day of my move- these guys were professionals! They were fast, efficient, friendly and very careful with our personal belongings and furniture. We had about 90 boxes (more than what we had initially estimated) and they were so patient and took care of them all. We also took their advice of putting everything in boxes. Even though they sold boxes, they suggested that if I had the time to get the boxes at Home Depot to save money. Thanks Old City Movers!!! Pros: Experienced Movers Cons: Extra fee for using a credit card. more

Old City movers far exceeded my expectation from my first my first call to schedule the move to the moment that they left my house. \r \r The day of the move, they showed up right on time and wasted not one minute - they packed the truck and headed out. I let them know that I would be right behind them...well, in the meantime, my cat escaped so I was frantically trying to get her back in her carrier then into the car. That took 30 minutes. Instead of just waiting the 30 minutes for me to arrive and let them in - they again wasted no time. By the time I got there, they had the truck unloaded and everything right outside the door waiting to go. Oh, and did I mention that I live on one of those really convenient Philadelphia streets that isn't wide enough to get the truck down so they had to park at the corner and walk everything 1/2 a block to the door? Still, they were completely unphased and so friendly! All in all it took them only 2.5 hours!! It was cheaper than renting a UHaul and moving myself!! \r \r These guys seriously know what they are doing. Moving is so stressful - Old City movers can reduced some of that stress.
