I live near Ocean China and love Chinese food. Since I moved to Austin 3 years ago I have eaten quite often at this restaurant. I have never been to China so I cannot attest to the authenticity of the food here. I am quite sure that, outside of China Town, there are no restaurants serving ""authentic"" Chinese food in the United States. How many Americans would eat authentic ""bird's nest soup""? Not me. I was there Last night & order togo (w/o using my better judgement of going to a chinese place next an animal hospital). I asked my questions to make sure the chicken was white meat & the eggrolls were that not fried spring rolls. So, I order general Tao's Chicken (Magestic Chicken), Crab Rangoon & Eggrolls. While eating the Chicken I bit into somthing hard & looked down & the chicken was brown & did not have ""strings"" which all chicken does. The Crabrangoon did not have any crab in it... just cream cheese & the eggrolls were Fried springrolls w/ no taste. Called the restuarant when I woke this morning since they were closed about time I was home & decided not to eat my food. I was yelled at & blammed cause I did not call until this morning. This is one place that I will never go to again... & will tell other Austinites not to go to! The only place that was worse was in ""China Town"" in NYC that had dried dogs hanging by hooks in the back room & that food was left on the table on site of that... Pros: only 1 other person in the restaurant.... should have been a sign! Cons: bad food & rude staff more

The food is always great, the service good, and delivery is fast. This is classic no-frills Chinese food, but it is always delicious, consistent, good prices (especially the lunch specials, which they also deliver). I dine-in on occassion, but mostly have food delivered, because it is pretty fast. The meat is always tender, vegetables not over-cooked, and sauces not too salty, like some retaurants that I have tried. Pros: Great food, delivery, good prices more

My husband and I thought Ocean China was excellent. It was the best Chinese we've had in Austin and the prices are very reasonable as well. It isn't fancy or romantic, but if you want good food, good service and reasonable prices, it's a great place to go. more

I really don't understand what the former reviewers are talking about - I've been ordering and eating at Ocean China for years and in fact just finished placing another order for delivery. I'm always surprised by the speed that our food is delivered. It's always brought by friendly people and is always hot. I love the taste and think it is far from tasteless as one reviewer put it. Ocean China is definitely my favorite Chinese in Austin - and this is coming from someone who lived in San Francisco, where Chinese is amazing everywhere. I absolutely DO NOT recommend China Hill, which the other reviewers may be confusing with Ocean China. Their reviews fit that other restaurant fairly well. At Ocean China, I often order the General Tso's chicken - it's wonderfully carmelized and spicy. We also love the Szechuan Chicken (or Beef) and the Kung Pao (anything) is great. Ordered crab rangoon and general tso's chicken. i know these aren't really authentic chinese dishes, but man, did they taste bad. if they can't get the fake stuff right, how will the authentic food taste? more

I highly reccomend not eating here. The food I ordered for delivery was under/ overcooked, was basically tasteless, and took over an hour and half to arrive. When I called to complain, the manager refused to offer a discount on my order, and literally laughed at me for suggesting the idea. Awful, awful experience. Ocean China quickly became a favorite neighborhood restaurant. Everything we've ordered from there has been spectacular. The egg drop soup might just be the best egg drop soup I've had anywhere. We usually get the Lo Mein. Even if we split it between the two of us, there's enough leftover for lunch the next day. Great food. Fantastic prices. Fast delivery. Great owners.
