Obivia is a fantastic place to host a party!!! Michael and Clare are easy to work with and accommodated me for two parties in the last year. We had the exclusive VIP area with a...

I only give this place 2 stars because our server was really good (otherwise it would?ve been 1). She was attentive & incredibly nice. Unfortunately, if you?re looking for a go...

Cool Vibe, Great Food, Superior Service 12/15/2006

After being dissed by newcomers around the block, we happened upon Obivia. We were frantically trying to find a spot for our office party. Clare checked with Craig and quickly provided menus with alternatives and a ton of choices for party food. When we arrived the next day (yes the next day, we were really lucky because there was another party in the back space the same night) the staff could not have been more professional or accomodating. The FOOD WAS AMAZING! Everyone at our party is still talking about it. We had something for everyone. On that note, health warning about the movie selection in the bar area. For us, it was cool, but it is better to be forewarned in case you have clients that might not be cool. The only tiny negative was in the fact that our space was in front so the departing guests and other patrons had to cross through. We felt lucky to be there in the first place, though so no matter. Definitely two thumbs up!! It's also a great date place-very seductive vibe. Pros: Great food Incredible Service Cons: None more

best mini burgers EVER 11/14/2006

Oblivia is sooo convenient to the neighborhood. It's kind of a hidden spot but once you get inside- it is beautiful! It's very gothic and kind of industrial inside. It really is homey but only good for a few friends, not large groups. The food is great and exotic drinks are spectacular. I highly highly recommend this place for couples. This is one of the best lounges in manhattan!!! I would return over and over Pros: ambience, food, drinks Cons: nothing!!! more

Great atmosphere, friendly and accommodating manager 10/21/2006

Hosted my friends' birthday party here, which was fantastic. When I first came to check out the place and talk to the manager, he was extremely friendly and happy to host us, unexpectedly gave us a pitcher of sangria which was fabulous. Arranged special happy hour prices since we had a lot of guests, and they reserved the back area of the lounge for just our party at no extra cost. Not much dancing unless you start it yourself, but music is nothing to complain about - the risque programming on the flatscreen TVs are an interesting touch. All in all, a great venue, fun party, and great management. Pros: Friendly management, great atmosphere, delicious sangria Cons: Music not bad but nothing special more

One word, HOT! 3/21/2006

wandered in with some girlfriends on a random wed nite. had no idea what this place was about. Let me tell you, its friggin HOT!! from the 70's and 80's porn playing on the flat screens to the candlelit, buddha, zen, loungy atmoshere, this place is a hidden gem! The drinks were awesome and the bartender comped us some great app's. The music was eclectic from the 80's - 90's and current, and they'd play whatever genre you were into shld you ask. The vibe was soooo sexy and fun. We will totally be back the first chance we get. Staff was awesome!! Pros: atmosphere, drinks, staff Cons: porn-like it or not!!, maybe location? more

Oblivous 2/5/2006

Went here for a friends party, an all-u-can-drink deal. Read the good reviews, I was pumped to go. Instead of letting us walk through the bar to the back room, the doorman had us walk around the block, and use the back entrance. STRIKE ONE. The second we were in, he ran up to us, and rudely demanded the $ for the special like we were trying to sneak in or something, STRIKE TWO. One friend came late, with 30 minutes of the all-u-can-drink left. They demanded he pay full price! He did not, and they would not let him stay in the back room with us! STRIKE 3. BTW, the back room is just the rear of the bar, with a steel curtain. Nice decor, but the idiotic policies, and rudeness were a turn-off. Too many other cool lounges in NYC to waste your time at this place. Pros: Decor, Good Waitress Cons: Rude Doorman/Manager, Rude Doorman/Manager, Rude Doorman/Manager more

Relaxed, convenient, and upbeat. 1/22/2006

Visited Obvia during the past holidays and found it very friendly, chic, and relaxed if one can be this all at once. Other patrons were dressed in casual attire as well as nightware lending to a mixed social atmosphere of warm congeniality. Loved it!!! 5 stars***** Richard from Denver Pros: Prices, People, Atmosphere Cons: Hard to find one more

The new weekend hotspot! 1/19/2006

Come early for the quiet type or after 10 for a little more action! Obivia's crowd is as ecclectic as it's decor, and with 20 or more specialty cocktails on the drink menu, you'll be feeling adventurous. Sip on wine with orders of cheese plate tapas and chocolate fondue, or try one of the other appetizers (foie gras, for example) on the list. Great for first dates...the interesting movie selection on Obivia's 4 flat screen TV's will keep the conversation hot! Pros: friendly staff, seasonal drinks, great lighting more

Not so good 1/12/2006

ake no mistake--this lounge is as delicious as eye candy as its specialty cocktails are as liver candy, but at $12 a pop on average, theyre a bit ahead of the competency level of which theyre served. (Word of advice: compare your check to the prices on the menu, specify which wine you want because otherwise they'll bring you the most expensive kind, and bring something to read while you wait for your painstakingly prepared cocktail.) more

Trendy, cute people 12/10/2005

My friends and I loved Obivia this weekend - the vibe is very chill and loungey - and the crowd is trendy and fun! The best part is there is NO ATTITUDE! It's a hot downtown lounge....great drinks - tapas are delish - and the people are hot. more

where I want to go tonight 10/23/2005

I just discovered this perfect place to start the night off downtown. not so packed that you can't find a cozy spot, not so "uncrowded" that you feel uncool. The drinks are great - fresh juices & ingredients and the small bites menu is perfect to coat your stomach so you don't get drunk too fast. the beast part is the ambiance and the lighting. very "beautiful people" Pros: lighting more
