This is a beautiful place to visit. The alley of oaks lining the main house are just amazingingly gorgeous! THe tour guides are sweet and full of historical info that take you back 200 yrs, back to the days of courtships, ballrooms, and the ugliness of slavery. Its a historically fascinating place to visit, with beautiful architecture and majestic grounds. The only thing I'd stay away from are the mint juleps served on the porch... Pros: architecture, tours, oaks Cons: mints julep, souvenir shop pricey more

Oak Alley and its neighboring plantations offer the kind of history lesson you don't often get -- tangible links to our collective past. Do yourself a favor and make it a point, whether you are a visitor or a local, to tour beautiful Oak Alley or any of the other many historic homes in Louisiana that are open for viewing. You will get a glimpse into a time many consider less-evolved, but that actually had quite a few innovations -- you will be surprised and delighted. more
