Worst place for kids 9/25/2010

The police working there and security are not only stupid they are rude. They kicked out a girl there last night who was leaving and was outside when the cop asked her a question. When she did not answer right away she was tackled, her phone thrown to the ground and then the lazy bouncer watched someone steal it. Her mom showed up and they were still jerks and charged her (even though she was behaving) with PI. Watch out kids the creeps are on the prowl..especially the gross woman cop. more

Must or Bust? Fabulous. 2/27/2009

When it's good, it's really good. The first time I went there, I actually heard Pulp, Suede, AND Blondie, but never ever since. There are certain songs they play every single time, for instance, the NY song with Robo-Cop video or Headhunter by Front 242. Hilarity ensues. Pros include a lot of space to dance and no 'tude. No pretentiousness. I only wish they would switch up the repetitive music and throw on some Smiths, or Cult, or anything different. The drinks are no joke dee-lish and the bartenders make up for the occasional boring DJ moments. A gem in Houston ;) Very well air conditioned, good sound, lights are good, all around thumbs up; they just need to mix it up a little musically and also perhaps fix the toilets. Pros: air conditioned, spacious, good drinks, excellent crowd Cons: dirty banos, repetitive music more

favorite club in the houston area! 11/25/2008

I started going to numbers wayyyy back and it just so happens some of my best memories so far were in that place. I think it's pretty much impossible not to have fun unless you're just totally sober, in which case you'd probably just be a little freaked out. You find all types of people there so you defiantely have to be a tolerant, but I think that's what makes it so much fun. The music is amazing, drinks are cheap, and everyone is so friendly. You definately have to experience at least one night at numbers. Pros: Really great dancing music, drinks, overall atmosphere Cons: disgusting bathrooms more

a houston classic 10/1/2008

perhaps getting a little long in the tooth...certainly long past it's heyday as the splashy dance club on lower westheimer in the early 1980's before hiv changed a lot of lifestyles. numbers is always fun, and the more people the better. cover tends to fluctuate...so be prepared to spend between $2 and $10 or so to get in. i think the manager sometimes ups the cover to make up for an otherwise bad week. the place could use some sprucing up, but hey it's dark anyway and that's all part of the ambiance. one can only wonder with awe what went on in the concrete block toilet stalls in days of old. really, anyone's welcome here - tatooed goths, preppies, old timers, old rockers...young punks and yes, sort of weird folks too. the bar tenders are friendly, the dj shows are usually terrific, and the dance floor gets filled quickly with folks who love to shake to the groove. if that's not your thing, you can sit in the sideline seating, or visit an upstairs lounge. a word of warning: this place has 'character', it's not dangerous or anything. but if you're looking for a sherlock's-like experience, you'd be best advised to stay clear. parking is on the street though they do have a lot one street over. if you come early, street parking is a good choice but be sure you're legal (read the signs, dummy!)or you may end up getting towed. no atm machine and they don't accept plastic, so bring cash. Pros: great dance floor, upstairs lounge, great for people-watching Cons: gritty, may look 'dangerous', only takes cash, cover tends to fluctuate at manager's will more

eccentric...league of its own 7/25/2008

I too...like many of you started "sneaking out" and and saving my lunch money to go to #'s on Wed nights when they had nickle beer. Yeah...guess that was some years ago. Of all the wild times I've had and all the party places I've been too...my most entertaining, memorable night out was at #'s with my girls ...smashed out of our minds. Its a bit dark...and scary at times....but the music is second to none and you "can dance if you want..you can leave your friends behind." Friday nights are fabulous and you'll hear old tunes from Front 242, Nitzerebb, Smashing Pumpkins, Delerium and some good ole Cobain...Nirvana. Numbers rocks and its so much fun to go after you have your buzz...then you're not worried about being to "pretty" and having the rough, black nailed goth chics pull your hair. i don't think the goths really frequent #'s on Friday nights. I don't fit the #'s mold anymore....but I still feel so freakin good when i go. I love the all of the different types of people that go....last time we went I saw a 60 yr old man in a patent leather thong with a spiked collar walking on a leash. Had I not been "tipsy' this would have been disturbing but nonetheless....you can't help but own the dance floor when Wes starts doing his thing. Its cools to see the same bartenders who remember me from "back in the day.' You don't feel old until you hear Beatie Boys and realize.....damn..that song is 15 years old. Love it! Pros: Bjork, Lords of Acid, Rob Zombie....LLYOD Cons: some bartenders are "not so friendly" more

The Best of the Worst. 12/26/2007

For me as a long time #'s goer (been going since is was 15) its kind of like that place where you go "Wow, I still come here?" but you never want to leave. Fridays is the night I go, 80'sindustrial goth and some hipister music they play a good mix and keep it semi-fressh. I dont care much for the people but I've been some good friends there and once a numbers chick, always a numbers chick. more

No BS 11/13/2006

Being a fan of the eighties, I came here on two occasions for eighties night. I like it becuase it plays good music. more

Same as it ever was...... 5/16/2006

I used to go to #'s when I lived in Houston some 13 years ago. It was the first club I ever got into as a teenager and was lucky enough to see bands perform there like Meat Beat Manifest, Orbital and Ministry. Each year when I return to Houston from Los Angeles to visit, I always visit my old stomping ground. Whether you're older and looking for a new venue, or you're fresh out of High School - #'s is a must see experience. Nothing special, just great music! Pros: Great Music, Cheap Drinks, Lots of Ladies Cons: Crowded at Times, Limited Parking more

Just Plain Old Numbers.......same since 1978 4/13/2006

This club is the only club in Houston that still stands that i know of that has exsisted since 1978!!! So if that don't tell ya something your just lost and need no clubs. more

best club in houston, i swear 1/13/2006

numbers is fantastic. i've seen 2 concerts there, and it was fun. but my personal favvv is '80s night on fridays. cheap drinks, cheap cover(before 11), GOOD MUSIC, and GOOD DANCING. it's so much fun. all walks of life go there to dance. it usually gets crowded after 12. the staff is nice. they sell cigarettes at coat check, but they're 5 bucks. go to numbers '80s night, have a few drinks, and i assure you, you'll have fun. more

numberschick 8/1/2005

i have been going to numbers since age 16! that was 7 years ago and im still hooked. i was in awe from my first second there, the ppl are great, the music is better than youre going to hear anywhere else in houston, and you wont go broke either. the special events really make numbers unique, friday nites are legendary and the regulars are loyal, new years and halloween are always a huge party, and the live music is something you dont want to miss, many bands have got their start there in a sense. dont miss their big 27th anniversary party AUGUST 20!! theres no place like it. Pros: best value, best music, no place like it! Cons: addictive! more

No better place to Dance! Great bargain 1/20/2005

I first came here when I was still high school and have recently become a Friday Night Regular! It is the Best Dance Club around on a Friday night and the price is right as cover is only $3 before 10pm! The DJs and dance music is second to none and can't be beaten as far as 80's club music goes! It's one great dance song after another, a great social scene with many Friday night regulars, and the people watching is quite entertaining! I love the artsy, eclectic, 'every day is Halloween' attitude! All it takes is one fun filled Friday night and you will be hooked...like me...even though I am in my mid thirties now...but, on Friday nights...I feel like I have time warped back to my college days! Pros: Great dance music, Inexpensive, Fun people watching Cons: , Teeny-bopper crowd, Service is hit & miss more

Can't say anything bad about this place 6/23/2004

...except the $5 cover for parking. The bartenders are nice and serve great drinks with fast and friendly service. This place is one of the best...people dancing from the time I showed up till the time I left. It's like nothing I've ever seen before. Pros: Drinks, Dancing, Music more

Go on FRIDAYS 12/15/2002

Friday night..theres no other place Id rather be. The DJ spins the best music. Ive been to lots of dance clubs...in texas..and everywhere else and its always the same trendy boring music. #'s is a place to go to dance and meet interesting people. #'s has become like a home..and its the only place I see so many different people come together to just have a good time. Its really fun...and the drinks are very generous and VERY strong (so be careful)...Make sure to get there early for really cheap drinks. more

Numbers for life 11/29/2002

This place has been and always will be the place to go on a friday night to dance. The music has been the same for 20 years and I hope to god it stays that way. From The Smiths, to the Cure, Peter Murphy, the Cult, and other acts from the 80's rock this place like no other. And if Wes if the DJ you will dance till 2 then cry for more as the staff yells at you to leave. Even if you don't feel like dancing the people watching can be interesting enough to keep you entertained. I have been going there since I was 18 and I still go there even though I am on the verge of 30. #'s for life!!!!!!!!!!! Pros: Great Dance Music, Cheap Drinks, Great People Watching Cons: Parking Sucks more

It's not so bad 10/11/2002

Numbers is one of the last places you can go to hear interesting dance music anymore. And if you don't mind your shoes sticking to the floor or being freaked out by wierdo-wannabe's, it isn't so bad. You can't beat the drink prices, which may or may not make up for your car being towed. The nicest thing about Numbers is the interesting range of live music and the carefree atmosphere. Pros: good music, cheap drinks, loose atmosphere Cons: uncool people, young people, bad area more

The Best 7/28/2002

Been going there for years! Great Friday night dancing fun and lots of cool people! more

The best place for industrial in town. 7/8/2002

Bitch about the crowd all you want, noone plays a better mix of industrial than #'s. They have one of my favortie setups inside. Two large screens for playing videos and an upstairs area with viewing window. I've seen four concerts there, from Helmet to KMFDM and it's always a great time. The crowds always react well, and having the viewing room upstairs is great when you get worn out. It isn't the most friendly group of kids, but they stay peacefull for the most part. I hear a lot of people complain about #'s, but in the end you can't find a better venue for industrial and goth. Especially one with so much history behind it. Pros: Great music, Great setup, Great concerts Cons: Whiney crowd, All ages, Old restrooms more

  • In Short
This lower Westheimer legend built its reputation on being a place where everyone can settle in for a cold drink and hot music. A cranking sound and light system, manned by Houston's top DJs, makes up for the dank interior. Music varies depending on the night, and the club has established itself as a venue for emerging and established acts. Bands like REM, the Stray Cats, Sheryl Crow, Oasis and Sevendust have rattled the rafters.
