Great surgeon aweful aftercare 12/21/2011

My husband recently underwent surgery at this surgical hospital. While the actually surgery went very well, his stay at the facility for for next three days was the worst nursing experience I have ever had (and I have had 3children and multiple surgeries here in Austin at other hospitals). The staff would meet most basic requests with a roll of the eyes and an, ""i'll get to it in a moment. We have 9 patients and only 4 staff, plus I was on brake that's why we're so behind."" The first night after back surgery they left him alone while doing his walking exercises so he just kept walking until he was exhausted, had to come back to his room and push the nurse button over and over, hoping someone might come to help him into bed! There were numerous times when he asked for pain medication on the normal schedule and had to wait an hour beyond his time to get the medication. There are no facilities for families, no real meals for patients, and when you ask if they can heat up a meal you have brought in for you family member they act as if you have asked them to something truly extraordinary. Over all, I was too scared to leave my husband alone there the 3rd night so even though we were from out of town and I had our young son with me I choose to have both me and my son sleep in the room with my husband to avoid any more potential harm. I would recommend the surgeons if you're going to be in and out in a day, but defiantly would never let another family member or friend stay there overnight. more

Horrible Experience 9/2/2011

Austin, TX Review Date: 09/02/2011 I had a routine procedure performed at Northwest Hills Surgical Hospital on 9/1/2011. I was told by my healthcare provider and by Northwest Hills Surgical Hospital that if my procedure was routine that there would be no co-pay deducted from my bank account. After my procedure I was told by the nurse that they found nothing abnormal...that the procedure was routine. The following day Northwest Hills Surgical Hospital removed $587.00 from my account and when I called I was told that I would have to wait until the claim was processed to have my money returned. My healthcare provider told me that they should not have charged me a co-pay on a routine procedure. In addition, I was told that no co-pay should have been removed from my account until the claim was filed. It is strictly up to my healthcare provider to determine if I owe a co-pay and it is extremely unethical to take advantage of patients in this manner. I strongly recommend that if you need a surgical procedure that you find a reputible facility...NOT NORTHWEST HILLS SURGICAL HOSPITAL!!! more
