Dying to Eat Elsewhere! 3/25/2012

We had an outrageous experience at the Noisy Oyster! At the onset of ordering, I informed the waitress that my daughter had experienced a significant allergic reaction to shell-fish in the past and therefore, I did not want any of her food touching anything that was cooked in or near shell-fish; nor did I want any utensils used in the preparation of her food that were also used to prepare shell-fish. Two onion rings and 3 french fries into my daughter's dinner she turned to me and said she felt sick. She was as white as a sheet. She excused herself to the restroom but did not vomit as she thought she would. When she returned to the table, she told me her lips felt numb, her tongue felt swollen and she was covered in hives. I immediately beckoned the Manager and asked if they cook everything in the same oil that they do their shellfish. With an incredible attitude he said, ""well, yeah""! I was furious~and told him that my daughter was having an anaphylactic reaction to the food. His comment was: ""Well you should have informed your waitress"", at which time our waitress appeared and told the manager that she knew. The manager then told me that if I needed benedryl, that there was a Harris Teeter down the road. After a trip to the emergency room, a life-threatening increase in my young daughter's blood pressure, shots of prednisone and oral medications, my daughter remained terribly sick for nearly a week and a half. I contacted the restaurant for a return call from the owner, of which I never received. This near-death experience and lack of compassion from the manager and his staff have left us in a state of shock. It amazes me that this restaurant remains with their doors open when they continue to be rude, unkind, uncaring and deliberate in their mismanagement. I am hoping that by writing this, others will become aware and will heed the messages set before them. There are numerous other restaurants in the area to eat at, do not gamble with your life at this one! You can bet your last dollar that the Noisy Oyster will never see us walking through their doors again!!! more

A snapper Salad to die for! 10/1/2011

The Noisy Oyster is a great place to eat if you are a fan of ambulance rides and the Mt. Pleasant e.m.t.'s. After eating there in May my wife had to be taken by ambulance to Mt. Pleasant hospital in Charleston to stabilize her violent reaction to what our attending doctor said was an extreme case of food poisoning. After a few hours and 5 bags of i.v. fluid she started to come out of it, but that really put a sad end to our travel plans. When we got home I contacted the Noisy Oyster about our trouble and the manager said that it couldn't be their fault because food poisoning takes much longer to appear, and he asked where else we eat. I told him that the only thing she ate was an english muffin and a cup of coffee! I had a feeling of which way this was going , were so sorry but... Never mind that the C.D.C . says that especially with tainted seafood symptoms can appear within the first hour! So in closing , if you are a fan of having a seafood dinner and going home in a speeding ambulance then I can heartily recommend the Noisy Oyster in Charleston S.C. more

loved it 10/25/2009

We loved this place! The alligator appetizer was wonderful and so was the service. The wind blew my menu into my beer and knocked it over, and my waiter replaced it for free without me asking. The desert was good, just a nice place to stop and enjoy the person you are with and have a couple drinks. Pros: good food, good service Cons: blackened seasoning wasnt that good. more

Sad, Sad Seafood 5/26/2009

We ordered the cold crab dip, a shrimp po boy, and an oyster po boy. The strongest flavor in the crab dip was the horseradish- couldn't even taste the crab. The tartar sauce on the po boys was incredibly bland. The bread tasted like wonder bread- not the delicious crusty french bread expected from a po boy. And the seafood didn't even taste fresh. The french fries were badly fried and covered in an excessive amount of seasoning salt to make up for it. This place is clearly a tacky tourist trap. Pros: Location, good for kids Cons: Food, Tacky Decor more

Great Staff 1/8/2009

I had a very enjoyable dinning experience. The staff was great, one of the managers (Devin) came to our table, greeted us, asked us how our dinner was and my wife and I had a great conversation with him. Devin is a very polite and nice young man. I would recommend this place to any of my friends and family. I will be returning. more

Don't believe all the hype! 5/14/2008

Okay, the food was okay, but not great! It was definitely way too expensive for the quantity of the food! There are better seafood restaurants out there! Cons: Parking, Food, Prices more

Beware of customer service or lack thereof 8/19/2007

After window shopping at several restaurant menus we landed at the Noisy Oyster on Market St. After an acceptable wait time, we got seated and that is when I noticed that my booth seat was not clean so I leaned down to clean it where the hostess was watching and didn't even bother to offer to clean it or have someone clean it. That was okay I got over it quick. We then looked at the menu and ordered an appetizer, 2 drinks, 1 salad, 2 soups and 2 entrees (Yes we were hungry). The appetizer was out fairly quickly which was nice and it was also decent. Not 3 minutes after that the 2 soups were on the table, at that time we were just starting with the appetizer so I asked the waitress to take them back 'til we are done and she did which was very nice. About 5 minutes after that those soups showed up again and of course we were not done with the appetizer so I decided to let it go and did not say anything. No joke, the entrees were delivered about 3 minutes after the soups and before the salad. We politely asked to return the salad as it came after the entree. To say the least, there is no system in place for timing the food delivery and/or sequencing and when you complain the waitress looks at you like you are from a different planet. My wife's entree was grouper stuffed with crab, she took a bite of it and the first thing out of her mouth is ?that it is too bland? so she stopped eating and put it to the side. When the waitress inquired about the food we said it is bland and her response was ""SORRY"" and quickly walked away. At that point I was upset because she really was not concerned about the customers but rather about table turnover. Needless to say, Noisy Oyster's management philosophy came out loud and clear: ?come in spend money and get out as fast as possible whether you had a good experience or not?. Cons: No service oriented culture more

Local Recipes, Good Seafood 6/13/2007

Great restaurant for families and out-of-town guests. Easy to get to. Menu selection and drink selection is good. Sometimes there is a wait, and I'm not quite sure if you can make reservations or not. more

Great food, friendly service. 6/10/2007

We recently moved to the Charleston area and were unfamiliar with the local restaurants. We kinda stumbled across the Noisy Oyster restaurant while house hunting. The food was great, the service was excellent, and the prices were competitive. Overall, a great dining experience. Pros: Great food, competitive prices, good service more
