Nipomo Swap Meet-Mini-Storage

I have been to Nipomo swap meet any number of times and am appalled at the animal cruelty going on with a vendor selling as many as 20 baby rabbits in a 24 inch cage, parrots and birds left out in direct sunlight in filthy dirty cages with no water in 90 degree heat. I have contacted San Luis Obispo animal control and they said that they went out and inspected the vendor , he had his permits and they said they had no problem with animals being abused since he had his permit. I am not done yet, I will be posting pixs on social media and try to get this vendor removed and the animals confiscated. more

PLEASE DO NOT SUPPORT THIS EVENT! They allow an animal vendor to sell pets that are mistreated and ABUSED. The rabbits had open wounds on their heads, over-crowded and dirty. The people that run this even should be ASHAMED of themselves. Call the local animal control. They are under investigation! HELP OUR CRITTERS! more

They allow a vendor to sell abused and mis-treated pets! I'm not a crazy animal activist but after walking by this old man's booth with small animals and birds my boyfriend and I booth wanted to throw up. We have rabbits at home and it made us sick to see how ill and sick theirs were! Visible, open wounds on their heads and faces (most likely from being over-crowded) and WAY too small to be away from their mother! PLEASE DO NOT SUPPORT THIS EVENT. They are under investigation with the local animal control and hoping to take their animals away! If you see abuse please report it and let this vendor know that they need to stand up. I am really surprised in such a small community that this is even happening :( more

Admission is free however there is a charge for parking. Fridays and Saturdays are $2 -- and Sunday is $3. There is plenty of new and second hand goods here. You'll find anywhere from collectibles and antiques, books, clothes, paintings to music instruments, furniture and car parts. Food is also plentiful - fresh fruit and veggies, assortment of nuts, tacos, etc. My husband and I sipped on fresh coconut as we combed the lanes. Although the majority of vendors and customers are hispanic, we didn't have a problem communicating with anyone. We were, though, embarrassed by some of the "gringo" vendors who talked down to the hispanics when they wanted to haggle prices down. Part of the fun of fleamarkets and swapmeets (and yard sales) is negotiating prices. more

You never know what you might find at the Nipomo Swap Meet. They are open Friday, Saturday and Sunday, unlike some other local fleamarkets that are open only on Sundays. For the best variety, you want to go on Sunday. Even though they are open on Friday and Saturday, there are not usually a lot of vendors on those days. It is much cheaper to sell on Saturdays than it is on Sundays. There are individual spaces for vendors and there are also some permanent buildings for "permanent" vendors. It is only a couple bucks to get in, and even if you don't find anything, it's still fun to shop around. Be prepared if you don't speak Spanish though because the majority of the sellers and clientele are Spanish speaking only., more
