Extremely Pricey, Unbelievably Worth It! 12/2/2008

Joel Robuchon, the ""Chef of the Century,"" has created the finest cuisine possibly on the planet with his namesake restaurant in Las Vegas. THe restaurant is very hard to get in to and requires formal dress and a whole lot of cash, but it is a definite must before you die. more

Feast for all the senses 8/15/2008

Theservice was attentive but not fussy and the food was fabulous! We did the summer menu (4 courses $75 ends 8/31/08) and everything was beautifully prepared and presented. Waiter was knowledgeable and food runner described each dish in detail. Wine list is good - emphasis on French wines (of course) and good selection at each price point. The homemade bread was ethereal and the sorbets and tartes for desert were mouthwatering - as good as it gets. Pros: it's Joel Robuchon of course Cons: its pricey but worth it more

Inventive food, terrible atmosphere 7/31/2008

My wife and I went recently as part of an anniversary trip to Vegas. In a nutshell: the food is inventive and interesting, but the atmosphere is below par for a fine dining experience. Positives: the food was unusual, the palate of the chefs was excellent, and we had a few dishes we had to admit we had never had before. Negatives: Though the dining room is visually beautiful, you basically have to sit on stools at a glorified counter space. The effect is as though you're in a very nice diner. The waiters are reaching over the counter to give you everything (one poor guy was physically straining to reach our plates.) And rather than watching your date (or your friends) you're watching the stressed out kitchen. At one point the head chef was yelling at his staff so loudly that even though it was in French the customers all became quiet and our waiter had to ask him to tone it down. Maybe if you've watched lots of ""Top Chef"" episodes, and your idea of a great dining experience is to sit and focus on what the chefs are doing the entire time, you might like it. But for $500 for two people (prix fixe plus wine) we expected something more relaxing. Pros: Inventive food Cons: atmosphere interferes with dining experience more

Relax and Enjoy 7/27/2008

Been there at least 10 times. It is a must go in Las Vegas. Let the brilliant Chef Steve Benjamin create dinner for you, relax and enjoy. Sit at the bar and watch the magic enfolds. The portions are not big, which allows you to try more items. Bring a date for a romantic dinner, a colleague for a business dinner, friends for a fun evening, everything works. The service is better at the bar, and the food is heaven. For bigger portions eaters, go to Claim Jumper, Maggiano or other eateries. L'Atelier is for those who are foodies, who don't mind spending for gastronomic happiness, who love life. Thank you l'Atelier for those magic moments, hopefully 2 stars Michelin soon. I will back soon, again, and again. Pros: Food quality, service, atmosphere Cons: never can get enough of it. more

Such an unfortunate Friday night experience- Mr Robuchon better get the firing line ready 4/24/2007

We have been to Atelier in Paris twice and went opening week at the MGM last year. We were huge fans of this restaurant and loved the concept. We steered everyone here when we talked about Vegas food. Twelve of us went this past Friday. It was a disaster. It took exactly 75 minutes from the time we ordered until the time we got our first course. The amuse bouche took 50 minutes and it was argula gazpacho in a shot glass. It tasted like a wheat grass shot. The first two wines we ordered, the waiter returned 10 minutes later to say they were sorry that they were out of stock. We did not find a bottle they had in their cellar until 45 minutes after sitting. Then 20 minutes after taking our order they informed 4 of us who ordered it that they were out of sea bass. Pros: great looking room Cons: service, inconsistent food, sky high wine prices, and attitude issues more

Worst value of all time 1/22/2007

I ate here with a group of 8 last Sunday night. Four of us had the $135 tasting menu and 4 ordered off the menu. A couple of rounds of drinks later and 3 bottles of reasonable priced wine and the bill was over $1,700. The food quality was mediocre at best. I live in San Francisco and have dined at Michael Mina, Gary Danko, the Ritz Dining Room, French Laundry, etc. as well as some the best places in New York, London and Paris. This was hands down the worst value of any meal I've ever eaten. I won't bore you with the details, but portions were tiny and taste lacking. Avoid at all costs. The coffee shop at the Hard Rock has much better quality food. Pros: Room decor is interesting. Cons: Value and quality is lacking. Service is OK, but not not for an establishment of this type. more

the quality of the food was outstanding BUT!! 11/6/2006

what you get for what you pay is a joke!!my wife and i had dinner there total bill was $150.00 the food was superb the service excelllent the room beautiful but the value was horrible!! i had the sqaub and my wife had the halibut, what i got was not a whole sqaub but a leg portion of a squab, so my dinner entree was about the size of one small chicken wing!! and my wifes fish was no larger than a match book!! the mashed potato's about one table spoon(but they are the best potatos i have ever tasted)and my wife had one baby carrot!! we also, got a very small tomato and basil parfet (also outstanding but very very small)so how do you give this place a positive rating when you leave there more hungry than when you arrived! you got less than an averege appitiser for you entire meal !! but the quality was spectacular!i guess you have to spend $500.00 a person to get a full meal that wont leave you hungry. Pros: food quality outstanding, excellent service Cons: servings are so small you think it is a joke!! value more

Imaginative, mind-blowing food with stellar service 11/6/2006

If you're a fan of the original Iron Chef, you know Joel Robuchon. Not only is he an award-winning French chef of the highest caliber, he's also famous for his appearances on the show as a French food expert extraordinaire. Pros: attentive, friendly service; amazing, creative cuisine; open air kitchen is fun for foodies Cons: a little pricey, somewhat precious and intellectual -- not for the mass-quantity eater more

The Best. 10/27/2006

Dinner at L'Atelier is frighteningly expensive. Figure on $200/person when after tax and tip, but from where I sit it is the smartest money you can play in Las Vegas. I have been to L'Atelier 5 or 6 times now and I have never had service that wasn't attentive and good-natured. And I haven't sampled many dishes there that didn't quickly become my favorite things in the world. Yes, the tasting portions are small, as others have noted, but there are also tapas and entree sized portions of many items. I prefer the smaller portions because I am not a huge eater and smaller dishes allows me to try more things. more

Imaginative food, great ambience, service a bit too casual 10/8/2006

We had a very good and festive meal here consisting of a tasting menu (seven courses) and a very nice wine recommended by our waiter. The food is innovative and beautifully plated, and we all especially loved a scallop sliced thin and the oysters flash-baked with butter. My two big complaints were: 1) the waiter/busboy cleared away plates while some of us were still eating, which is a giant faux pas in finer restaurants, and 2) the two desserts were unimaginative and repetitive, two fruit desserts in a row, one of which tasted like a crumbled up NutriGrain bar on top of grocery store sorbet. Definitely worth a visit, but do not expect Paris politesse for Paris prices! Pros: Inventive menu, pleasant setting, friendly service Cons: Overzealous clearing of plates before everyone was finished eating more

Mixed Feelings on this place... 9/15/2006

The ambience of the restaurant is definitely relaxed, the best place to sit is at the bar (where you can see the chefs in action). We ordered the tasting menu, which had some pretty extraordinary dishes. Most impressive to me was a honey glazed quail -delicious. My only complaint is that some of the dishes were tiny. My husband was still hungry at the end of the meal. The sommelier was very nice, and helped us order a great wine for less than $80. Overall though, the meal was pricey. Our total was $670 for four people! I'm glad that I had the chance to experience this place, but am not sure that I would go back again. Pros: counter seating with a perfect view of the kitchen action Cons: very $$$$$$$$, not the most interesting decor more

Like being in Paris 6/12/2006

This is a phenomenal place. I had just returned from a trip in France where we ate at Michelin 1-star, 2-star, and 3-star restaurants. The food here is quite quite impressive, and it is easily on par with 1 or 2 star places. The ambiance is super-casual and reminds you of a sushi bar. But I tell you, if you love french food, this place is the move. It is expensive, however, so bring a lot of money. Dinner for two with wine ($55 a botttle, the cheapest one) and three tasting menu courses and dessert set us back $340. more

Over priced cafeteria food 11/27/2005

Yuck! You think this is original? Sushi bar rip off from a washed up chef. Desserts especially were bad. Hello? A cactus? Go back to wherever you are from! Cons: MGM, MGM, LAs Vegas more
