Moody Street's best Indian restaurant 1/3/2011

Hey...I've tried all the other Indian Restaurants along Moody Street and keep coming back to New Mother India. Best food and much better prices than over the ""border"" in up-scale Newton Center. Saag is pretty much best I've ever found. Likewise for their Aloo Gobi and Bangan ka Bhurta. All are a each wonderful mix of complex flavors. Decor is recently remodeled in late 2010. They have an ever-changing lunch buffet. I recommend you come during the first hour of the buffet. Also New Mother India has a huge and seemingly always mostly empty private parking lot around back. No Moody Street parking hassles or costs - ever. more

Horrible food! Never again!!! 8/7/2010

This is by far the Worst place I've eaten in Massachusetts. The service was horrible, the waiter forgot my soup, made us wait for 20 minutes to get our main course, and forgot to give us plates!!!! Waited for another 5 minutes to get a plate to eat in! The ambiance is definitely good, the place is clean but whats the use when the food is terrible! I believe they have unlimited supply of peas, kidney bean, beans and broccoli! Beware!!!!... cause everything you order will have variants of the same vegetables in a horrible gravy(((So damn sweet!!!))). It would be nicer if they dint call it an Indian place... Indian gravy's are way way way better than what I ate here.. Cannot comment on the non-vegetarian/meat section, but I assume if the vegetarian dishes are so terrible, meat would be equally bad!! Most definitely not going back to this overly priced place again...Again, if you want to take a chance, go right ahead...its your funeral!! And as for the Americans in the restaurant, I do not know how/what to say... U just haven't tasted Indian food if you've eaten here... more

Never Returning 3/23/2008

The food was great, but the service was poor. We waited 30 minutes before our order was taken and then one hour before the food came. They forgot to bring the wine. We had to get the attention of the server several times. The owner would not honor my open table reservations and cancelled it after I was there resulting in lost points. Terrible experience 2/4/2006

After my last experience at New Mother India, I will likely never go back. I am surprised to see such rave reviews, honestly. I had some of the worst service in my life there last night. We wanted a nice dinner, and we wound up spending two hours there...not because we wanted to, but because our waiter came at half hour intervals! We got the dinner for two, and they didn't bring us certain items that were supposed to come with the meal. Our waiter was a real sour-puss, answering us in monosyllabic grunts. When we asked to take the rest of our food home, we were dismayed when we got home to see that they didn't even pack up all of the food. I don't know why the service was so poor, because it wasn't even too busy. Pros: Good food, nice decor Cons: Expensive, poor value, terrible service more

Expensive, but good 1/9/2003

New Mother India has terrific Indian food and a nice atmosphere. The waitstaff is friendly and attentive. They even have their own beer (brewed by Watch City Brewing Company down the street) that is quite good. The menu is quite extensive featuring many breads, appetizers, vegetarian, beef, lamb, fish and chicken dishes. The only drawback is the price is a little high.
