Rip Off 1/27/2011

The school is overcrowded. Admissions has accepted double the number of students the clinic can support. Every other day you must sit in a basement classroom all day long and do absolutely nothing. The never incorporated a curriculum for this. There is no teaching, you literally sit there all day like you are in in-school suspension.\r \r They give you 100 absent hours that you can take during the course of you time in the program. However, they will have school during inclement weather so if you go during the winter months you must save a significant amount of hours for snow. The city of Malden also doesn't help matters, as they do a lousy job plowing. Many students are turned away if they are just a few minutes late due to stormy weather.\r \r Here's the money maker: They charge you 10 dollars for every hour missed over 100. more

HORRIBLE! I went there and got out. 10/10/2010

I attended as a day student back in 2004 and I feel the need to express my dislike of that place 6 long years later. It is not worth it. Heres why: There facilities are bad. The outlets didn't always work when we were working. I vividly remember the basement classroom area being flooded by the clogged toilet and the light brown water being everywhere. That class day was wasted....money was wasted. The instructors are unprofessional. And have an attitude as if they're not serious about the money you invested. I remember the instructor constantly talking gossip with other instructors and not fully being there for the students. You could literally half-donkey your way through the program and there would be no one there to push you to do better. It was just a paycheck for them. But my favorite memory(sarcasm), was when my instructor a woman by the name of mariah, had a breakdown, started crying, and threatened to quit after her best friend, another instructor, quit because of differences with the management and the toilet incident previously mentioned. Afterwards the newly former- instructor went around telling students how "crappy" the place was, pun intended, and to leave before its too late. Further, the very admissions rep, who to her credit was a nice girl, told me while I was dropping out, that she had gotten a job with the state and "couldn't wait to leave this place". I wanted to be a barber, period. I had no intentions of doing womens' hair, but I found myself doing perms and whatnot at the beginning of the program. They do this to cover themselves since they give you expensive Oster clippers at the second half of the program, so when you realize that you want out ahead of time, you wont take their clippers with you, which is what happened to me. The funniest part of all this is that everyone, and I mean EVERYONE was already working at a barber shop or beauty salon without a license, and openly talked about it to their instructors. The ONLY thing the license is good for is if you want to open up your own shop. I mean really, how much time do you think the state spends going around checking the licenses of the barbers and hairstylists. Not much. If you want to learn the trade, look for a shop or salon that will take you in as an apprentice or buy a book or some dvds on learning the trade. I paid $10,000 in 2004 and it seems as if the tuition has gone up, and it will keep going up because in terms of schools that offer a barber program, there are this one, and one in springfield if I'm not mistaken, they closed the one in quincy. So they're the only one in town and can charge what ever they want. Take my advice and away from an institution whose ONLY concern is to get you money. YOU DON'T NEED TO SPEND THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS TO LEARN TO CUT HAIR. more

I am a Night Student at NEHA 9/22/2008

The day I signed the contract to go to this school was the biggest mistake I've ever made! The financial aid woman promised me a loan of $1,500 for school expenses. Now.. over halfway done.. I've gotten every excuse in the book as to why I haven't recieved my money. They lie lie lie lie lie and THE OUTLETS in the salon part of the school are so old they turn off from multiple hair dryer use. Now I'm no electrician, but I have a friend who is.. and we should all be able to run our dryers PLUS curling irons and anything else we use. This school was most people's biggest mistake as well, please don't make it yours. Ps. The tuition is not 12.. it's $15,000. Just correcting the last comment. more

Don't Go Here 5/8/2008

I go to this school for the night program, and let me tell you it's definantly not worth the $12,000 they charge you to go there. So I heard all the hair schools are the same and they all stink and supposably you don't really learn anything in hair school you learn in all in the real hair salon, well you are supposed to learn the basics and if your paying that much than you shouldn't have to teach yourself and you shouldn't have to wait around for the teacher to help you because there is supposed to be more than one teacher but yet they still haven't hired a new one and the one that is there gets mad when you ask questions and talk about god knows what for hours. This school is definantly not what they brag to be, and EVERY girl in my class feels the same! So unless you plan to be a day student don't bother, save your money! more
