Full disclosure: New Delhi Restaurant is the first place I ever had Indian food, nearly 15 years ago. There...

If I didn't have a Restaurant(dot)com certificate for this place I would've passed on going. I don't understand why people rave about it. First, they charge you $18 for a soup-siz...

Maintaining standards after all these years! 3/27/2012

Still Great! Went to New Delhi the other night for the first time in years...Used to be our Go-To place when we lived closer to downtown, but moved further out and found more convenient places. We'd forgotten how great the food is here. New Delhi is still one of the best Indian restaurants we have found in the SF area. The prices are still reasonable and the service was great and fast as well. We'll definitely not wait so long to go back next time. more

Great for a party! 9/8/2011

Some friends had their engagement party here and I have to say: I had a great time. The food was excellent, my friends rented out the whole dining room, the DJ was spinning Bollywood dance music all night and the staff just kept up and rolled with it. At no point were we made to feel like we were a bother or staying too late, just pure hospitality. I'll be back for a more quiet experience very soon. more

Great for a Crowd 8/18/2009

Very friendly and professional staff. Excellent service and great ambiance. Our experience was picture perfect. We had two kids (ages 5 & 7) in our group, they loved every moment of the evening. I would recommend this restaurant for every occasion to celebrate, just make your reservations ahead of time, if you are a large group like ours was. more

Good food, great Chai, great servic 3/4/2009

I've eaten at New Delhi for lunch several times, and I really enjoy it. It's very good and lunch tends to be quiet - which I like. The atmosphere is very nice. The service has always been very friendly, and I have never had a problem with slow service. I've been in and out for my lunch hour several times. Oh, and the chai tea is awesome. I don't know what;s in it, but this is not wimpy Starbux chai, this is full-occtane-don't-drink-after-6pm chai. If you need an afternoon pick up, this will do the trick, more

A Great Evening Out 2/10/2009

This is classic, adult Indian food. if all you've ever had has been the uber-casual hole-in-the-wall joint type of Indian, then you owe it to yourself to visit New Delhi and see how the other half lives. The decor is upscale with white tablecloths and gold chargers but the food and service are what keeps me coming back. I'm always greeted like the staff showed up just for me and the food is outstanding. Everything is served family style, so go with a few friends so you can sample everything. Start with a specialty cocktail or a mango lassi and be sure to finish with some fresh gulab jamun or mango ice cream. Then leave plotting your next visit. more

Best Indian in the United States 12/18/2008

But don't take my word for it, the New York Times thinks so too. I love this restaurant. Every time we go, whether it's for Valentines Day or just because I'm craving the samosas, we always have a great time and leave feeling as though we've had the best meal of our lives. The staff at New Delhi are all very knowledgeable, friendly and great to talk with. Highly Recommended!!!! more

Fantastic Upscale Indian 9/8/2008

SF has a plethora of casual Indian options, but not too many have attempted fine dining Indian cuisine. Once you go to New Delhi you realize why - there's no need when they are filling that niche so well. From the white linen tablecloths to the gold chargers to the specialty cocktails, New Delhi makes you feel like a pampered guest rather than just one more table to turn. And the food is amazing as well. Go and let them treat you well. more

Great north Indian food 9/8/2008

SF has a plethora of casual Indian places, but very few fine dining options. With New Delhi filling that need, it's easy to see why no one else would try. From the crisp white table clothes, gold chargers and linen napkins to the specialty cocktails, the whole place is designed to make you feel like a pampered guest. And the food is outstanding as well. Go and get treated like royalty instead of just another customer. more

This restaurent offers great North Indian food and has visits from celebrities like Bill CLinton to its credit. Their ad is often featured on Asian tv channels. The head chef is Ranjan Sharma and is a very good chef. The food is rich and yummy. The decor is very beautiful. If you are in modd for some non-buffet indian food, you should try this place. more

  • In Short
An upscale choice for North Indian cuisine, this restaurant right off Union Square has a dark, wooden interior that opens past the full bar into a large, dressy dining room. The space has a vintage feel thanks to lots of old wood and exposed brick. Dishes include traditional Indian fare--curries, tandoori, rogan josh, tikka masala--and more exotic choices such as kofta shah jahani (stuffed meatballs) and murg akbari (spiced chicken with dried fruits).
