Editorial review from Citysearch 10/13/2013

She never gets the appointments right, I always go there and they tell me my appointment is a t a different time.\r She can never get my name right, its really not that hard to remember.\r Nelly acts like she knows everything but she did absolutely nothing for my hair.\r My friend went in for a haircut as well and she cut it very short on her after telling her she didnt want it cut short and just wanted a trim.\r I will never go there again and I would not recommend this to anyone. more

Great service, great hairstyle! 1/14/2011

I was really impressed with this salon. Andrew was great in creating the perfect updo for my wedding. I was visiting from Australia and being married in New York. On the day of the wedding, I showed Andrew some pics of the style I wanted and he transformed my hair into exactly what I wanted, efficiently and without fuss. I really appreciated his professional manner, and was really happy with the whole experience. Everyone loved my hair too which was great! more

This is by far the BEST hair salon in Downtown Manhattan!! 3/3/2010

Nelly is a very sweet, nice and welcoming lady; she makes you feel at home from the moment you arrive. Pros: Good Prices Cons: Not open on Saturdays! more

Excellent Spot 4/16/2009

I have gone to Nelly's at least ten times over the last 3-4 years. She is an amazing and kind woman, who is always a pleasure to deal with. The staff is accommodating and patient, with none of the high end-salon attitude. (Even though its high-end service in an upscale area.) Great location, except for parking access, near major train lines and businesses, and excellent service. I highly recommend Nelly's salon to everyone I know in NYC. *One of Nelly's employees - Pilar, does great work! Pros: Great service, good prices, NO attitude. Cons: No weekend hours. more

Best Salon Downtown! 1/3/2009

I have been going to Nelly's since 2002. I had a regular salon in the WTC, but after 9/11 had to find another salon. I worked across the street from Nelly's and went in for a haircut, and loved it. The atmosphere is very friendly. I now go for cut and color and would not go anywhere else. I now work out on Long Island, and still only go to Nelly's in Manhattan. Anyone who is in the Financial District or in Battery Park should certainly make Nelly's their salon. Pros: Atmoshpere, price more

Ol' Reliable 12/29/2008

I have found it difficult to find a place that consistently gets my haircut the way that I like it, that was until I found Nellys. After some misadventures with other area stylists I tried Nellys on chance and havent looked back for over 2 years. I always leave happy and the price is exactly right; I don?t have a lot of hair so for me to pay more than $20 for a haircut is excessive. I have recommended other gentlemen coworkers to Nellys and everyone has left happy. I wholeheartedly recommend this salon. Pros: Great prices, good availability more

Great Convenient Spot with Accomodating Staff! 12/10/2008

I went to Nelly's Salon on the recommendation of a friend who had finally found a salon where she felt welcomed and satisfied. I had a great experience. I'm not exactly the fussy type who walks in with an exact image of each haircut, but I do want my hair style to look good. Usually I hate the arrogant attitudes of downtown salons. My stylist was patient and helpful, and considerate of my ""paranoia"" about losing to many inches, and even suggested a razor cut on my ends, which I loved! I've been to Nelly's twice, and I really don't see myself going anywhere else for awhile. The cut was affordable, and Nelly herself was delightful. The water street location was perfect for me after work, and the salon was nicely appointed. Would definitely recommend to others. Pros: Skill of stylist, polite, and nice atmosphere Cons: Maybe later hours??? (Closes at 6 I think) more

A great little salon! 12/9/2008

I have been going to Nelly's for years and have had always had a great experience there! They have done a great job cutting my curly hair and helping me choose a style that will allow me to alternate between wearing my hair straight or curly. Curly hair girls know this is not a small feat! They also do an excellent job with blow-outs and I have never had to worry about painful tugging or frizzed out hair! Pros: accommodating staff, great results more

Great Blowout! 3/17/2008

Peter does a fantastic blowout taking my hair from frizzy and weird to straight and gorgeous in a flash. I live and work in the neighborhood and count on him to keep me looking professional (when you work at home it's easy to fall into the pony tail and sweats thing). I have confidence that Peter will have me arriving at meetings looking -- and after a friendly conversation -- feeling great. He also is extremely good natured about last minute appointments and does his best to oblige. Pros: Peter! Cons: It's a walk-up building so be prepared. more

Horrible! Horrible! Horrible! 10/24/2007

I wouldn't recommend it. I went in for a simple haircut.....1/4 inch off a REALLY basic shorter style and came out looking like I had my haircut with a lawnmover....a choppy, uneven, short MESS!!! Stay Away! It will take me atleast two months to grow it back to where it was in order to just even back up! Will have to wear a bag over my head 'til the holidays... Pros: no wait and inexpensive. Cons: unfortunately.....you get what you pay for. more

1960's 8/24/2006

To be fair the girl who did my nails did a very nice job and the price was reasonable...$19. However, the facilities were awful! The chair wasn't a massage chair and basin looked like a really tiny sink. There weren't any jets and it could barely fit both of your feet in at one time. I wouldn't go back. Pros: Nail tech Cons: Facilities more
