Neal's Unfinished Furniture on Burnet Road offers many pieces of furniture and stains for the do-it-yourself. They carry a huge variety of kitchen tables and chairs, and dressers, etc. They offer a layaway and payment plan also. They sell the furniture unfinished, but also will stain and seal it for you. I found the unfinished prices to be reasonable, but the stained prices to be way to steep.
