Fantastic American History Museum 5/3/2006

If you are in Washington, you must visit the National Museum of American History. This museum is one of the many Smithsonians in the DC area, which means free admission and absolutely fantastic exhibits. You'll find everything from Mr. Roger's sweater and Archie Bunker's chair to gowns worn by many First Ladies. The traveling exhibits have ranged from the history of computers to a tribute to paint-by-numbers. You'll need most of a day if not a full day to visit, but no need to hurry. It's free! more

There's no escape from learning here 3/19/2006

The National Museum of American History is chock full of exhibits all pertaining to American history and culture, and it's 100% absolutely free to get in. This is one of my favorite Smithsonians, mainly because there are even exhibits in the bathrooms (on the history of plumbing in the USA, of course!) The traveling exhibits are top notch, and the recently-renovated transportation hall, now called "America on the Move" is one of the best and well-designed exhibits I've ever experienced (and I'm a curator, so I should know). Great great great museum-- don't miss this. more

Interesting bits of history, nice exhibits. 2/28/2006

The National Museum of American History is one of my favorite Smithsonians--like all of the others, it is free to enter. They have a lot of really neat American history to see--one of my favorites is an exhibit on the White House and presidential life, with a collection of dresses worn by first ladies. It's a great place to visit to learn more about our country for both children and adults--and is much more fun to learn from than a textbook! more
