Great authentic, family style restaurant 3/12/2007

It's a small but a true Japanese family style restaurant. Sushis are fresh and the texture is wonderful. Prices are reasonable for its quality. They provides a variety of cooked food and sushi. It also serves a few authetic dishes that you don't usually find elsewhere. There aren't too many authentic, family style Japanese restaurants with reasonable price like Nagato Sukiyaki. more

Tempura slightly greasy. 6/17/2006

I liked that it was small, quiet and had great service. The restuarant is at Fulton and Marconi, not Watt. more

Authentic Japanese food and friendly atmosphere! 1/7/2006

Nagato's not only has delicious food and an exquisite Sushi bar, but the friendly atmosphere keeps customers coming back for more. This local family-owned restaurant has wonderful staff and the Sushi chef Don is a one and only. He's a great conversationalist with a great sense of humor with everyone - adults and children alike. The mom/owner, Fumi is just as friendly. Restaurants like this just aren't made anymore. Other sushi places have become so commercialized and Nagato's is so comfortable. The service is great and no where near Mikuni's prices and noise. Try it, I know you'll be pleasantly pleased! Pros: Reasonably priced, Good location, Good parking more

Tempura done right 1/7/2006

The best place to go for tempura, light and cripsy batter that comes out to you fresh and hot, not drenched with oil. If you want commercialization go elsewhere, if you want authentic Japanese food than Nagato's Sukiyaki is the place to go. Everything I've tried there was excellent. They have about a dozen tables/booths so it can be busy at times but worth the wait. The sushi chef, Don, knows how to keep customers coming back, although he could add a bit more wasabe to the sushi plate. Pros: plenty of parking, excellent food, service Cons: light on the wasabe more

Best Sushi resturaunt 12/11/2005

It is a quit nice family run sushi bar. Has A great Sushi named Don. Don is a very nice man and is very nice to chidren. I recomend this place to anyone. They have traditional japanese food. Once you come you are never going to wanna leave or go anywhere else. Take my word for it more

Last of the Japanese-owned establishments... 12/4/2005

A small ""mom & pop"" place at the intersection of Marconi and Watt-- I personally hate the proliferation of the mega, super-trendy sushi places in Sacramento (aka. Mikuni, Nishiki, etc.) . For starters, I hate eating rolls filled with cream cheese that are drenched in ""special sauce"". If you feel the same as me, you'll appreciate Nagato's, where the food is definitely solid and a wide range of fish is available. Don, one of the sushi chefs, has mentioned that from time to time, even Toro is available upon request. Pros: Not Mikuni., Friendly service., Loyal clientele. Cons: Not open Mondays., Small sushi bar. more
