Terrible customer service! On Saturday, our alarm starting beeping/talking/obviously malfunctioning every now and then. We called and were told ""Oh. Sorry. The office opens on Monday."" The guy clearly wanted nothing more than to get off the phone and was very rude about it, like I'm an idiot for not wanting a buzzing, beeping, talking box in my house. By Sunday night, it was loudly beeping/talking once a minute or so-- keeping the whole house up all night. Monday, when we called, they said they would ship us a battery to replace ourselves (after being told that it wasn't a low battery and then suddenly later in the day it was definitely a low battery) and that you can just press Disarm twice to silence the unit for ""4-6 hours."" No idea why the first guy couldn't be bothered to share that, and no idea why I'm expected to service this unit myself. The battery came, and we had to call back to find out how to install it. No instructions were provided, I guess if we hadn't happened to catch them during business hours we would again be waking up in the middle of the night to silence the alarm. We had to open up the panel and unscrew it-- this is clearly and obviously not something that a consumer is supposed to do. The cable company doesn't have you open up your cable box and mess around with the wiring and computer chips in it! We broke the latch off of the unit following the instructions (which included prying it open with a BUTTERKNIFE). Come on here to read that they give you a hard time about cancelling--- well I am. ASAP. The incompetence this weekend was really stunning. more

Two months after I sent written notification of cancellation (return receipt requested - so I have the paperwork showing that they signed for the notice) to My Alarm Center and spoke with them twice they were still charging my credit card. Said I had signed a contract with them in 2009 with auto-renewal. Since I did not remember signing any contract when they bought the local business that I had used for decades, I asked for a copy of what I signed. Woman then began saying 1999 as my date of signature. Said I would have to pay until April 2013. Stay away from this company. They are purchasing contracts around the country and setting them up for automatic 5 year renewals. If they buy your alarm company, immediately cancel your contract. more

I signed a three year contract for their service on my home. Seven years later I notified them to cancel the contract several months in advance of cancelation. THey claim I need to buy out the contract. I stated that the contract obligation was met and exceded. Now they are collecting on me for a rediculious dollar figure claiming weasel words in the contract. THey are totaly out of line, bad customer relations and trying to force money out of their customers for no service. Stay away from these mobsters! more

Difficult to cancel 5/2/2012

Horrible company! Stay far away! Too hard to cancel and yet they keep charging you for a service that is no longer active (I moved and had them for over 8 yrs). Ridiculous! more

Ripoff alert 3/30/2012

Thieving aholes! After I canceled they kept on sending me bills ignoring the cancellation. I could not resolve the dispute over the phone. I agree with the other reviewers about the difficulties involved in canceling. These guys are not interested in customer service, only how much they can rip you off. There are much better alarm companies out there! DO NOT SIGN UP WITH THEM more

Difficult to cancel! 3/2/2012

I would not recommend this company to my worst enemy. They lock you into a long term contract, which AUTOMATICALLY RENEWS without your approval. The only way to cancel is in writing and which they make it very difficult to do. Any legitimate business would not try to screw the consumer over by billing for services they do not provide. I am going to complain to the BBB and the attorney general about these crooks. more

actual review of 'MY ALARM CENTER' 12/22/2011

$20 per month ended up costing over $60 per month. They purchase contracts from 'companies' that sell alarm service; this results is poor communication when there are problems they point fingers at eachother and leave you without service. After going without service for several months- and paying for it - I called to cancel. I was told per contract I just had to send it in writting. The certified mail came back unclaimed- My Alarm Center said the address on the contract wasn't where I was supposed to send the cancellation request. After disputing the charges with the credit card company for several months, The Alarm Center finally admitted their error and stopped charging my account. Several months later I got a call informing me that my account could not be canceled- and contrary to what they said before- I had to pay the full term, even though I was no longer recieving service due to their neglect. We tried to work out a deal where I could get my alarm service back up and running- unfortunately, the various contracts they sent me did not contain the agreements we made on the phone- I told them I wouldn't agree to a 'verbal only' deal because they are claiming that any prior verbal agreements I had with them are invalid and now they want me to accept new verbal agreements as valid. Also every contract they sent me was longer than the prior and had more rediculous things such as giving them the right to destroy/disable my system without reason and making it so my system can only be monitored by them. Once i put my foot down and made it clear that I wouldn't agree to 'verbal only' deals, they stopped trying to pressure me to sign a new contract and started trying pointless 'collection' calls. In the end they sent my 'contract' to a dept collector- although I didn't owe them, I paid a settlement amount just so I wouldn't have to deal with them anymore- they've wasted hours of my time, created alot of stress, and failed to provide Alarm Service. Originally I thought they'd be ok as long as you don't have any problems- but now I realize that they are a hypocritical company and it would be ethically wrong to support them. I encourage anyone who is considering their service to read their contracts- what you are told over the phone doesn't matter, it only matters what they want you to sign- don't expect them to keep their word. If the contract doesn't specifically state something (like they have to provide alarm service) then don't assume it! If they don't provide it to you in writting- its not valid. more

Called My Alarm Center to get take advantage of the free monitoring offer. The tech showed up on time, hooked up the system and showed me how to use it. I love having a cellular system because I don't use a landline for anything else. Now I just hope I never need to use it! more

We recently had a burglary in our neighborhood. The family next store has a security system by My Alarm Center so I gave them a call. They were competitive and super helpful. I live in an older home and the tech came and helped us choose an alarm system that was perfect, not more than we needed. He was so knowledgeable and not pushy at all. Our alarm isn't even hooked up to our phone line, they put in a cellular system so we are safer when storms knock out power and now I can get rid of my home phone. Pretty cool. Really a great experience. more
