Penny Pinching Disaster 12/12/2009

$7 side dishes (no rice/noodles included with entree) and a whopping extortionist $15 corkage charge. All adds up to a NEVER TO BE VISITED AGAIN experience. We argued this ridiculous charge with the manager- gave him every opportunity to rescind- but his business acumen dictated that a $15 dollar inflated charge was way better than a returning customer spending over $50 on food. Shame on your short-sightness.? Pros: They would be.....none Cons: Greed more

We love this place! 10/17/2009

Everytime I go to Mustard Greens I wonder why I don't go there more often! Bon and his charming staff are so cordial, the food is just delicious and the atmosphere is that of a perfect little city restaurant ""find"". Pros: Delightful, delicious, comfortable Cons: sometimes tough to park nearby on weekends more

Best Chinese in Philly 2/21/2009

Mustard Greens serves the most subtle, light, Cantonese influenced Chinese in Philadelphia. The menu is standard (dumplings, fried rice, General chicken, MooShu pork), so at first, you don't expect much. But this isn't your normal overly cooked, covered in sauce, Chinese. The ingredients are fresh, prepared with delicate seasoning, and delicious. The dumplings are the best ever! The fried rice is light and tasty. As the name promises, you can even get Mustard Greens (is that a Chinese dish?)--lightly sauteed with just a pinch of salt and garlic--fantastic! more

fresh and delicious and inexpensive 2/2/2009

When you go out to dinner, the basic expectations are a clean comfortable setting, friendly efficient service, and delicious food. Mustard Greens is the perfect neighborhood restaurant, the polite staff and understated decor give this casual spot an inviting feel, and the presentation of freshly prepared food that tastes as good as it looks, makes this place downright cozy. Granted we went on a Monday, so i'm sure the weekends can be a bit more hectic, but after eating there once i would gladly wait for a table, or even an extra few minutes for my order if business merited. We shared two entrees and a side, which was plenty for us to be very satisfied, and i recommend trying all three. The beef with walnuts, and chicken with nectarines were light in flavor, hints of ginger and garlic left nothing to be desired. The dishes were seasoned perfectly, and lightly sauced, the vegatables were bright and crisp, obviously fresh and not overcooked . With every bite the flavor of each component was apparent, nothing masking or overwhelming another. The nectarines were soft and sweet, sugar snap peas cruchy, the beef tender and flavorful and the walnuts added the perfect nutty flavor. The mustard greens themselves were the must try for the evening, being the namesake, and didn't dissapoint. They were crisp and crunchy with perfectly wilted leaves and just a touch of oil, again lightly seasoned so as not to interfere with the character of the dish letting the delicate flavor shine through. There are so many reasons i can list as to why my date and i agreed this is one of our new favorites. But so as not to bore i will simply say, if you want to enjoy good food inexpensively and appropriately priced, go to Mustard Greens it is a quality dining experience. more

similar experience as below. foods are ok, service has room for improvement. should hire more staff during peak weekend dayz more

bad service 2/28/2006

I have been there a couple of times and the server i had was not good. We were never asked what we wanted to drink, and forget refills. Another time my friend and I had to share a tea cup because they never brought a second one, the table was set without it and after we brought it to their attention it was ignored. On the plus side the food was really good, but the expreience is sacrificed by bad service. more

cozy spot... 6/7/2005

this place was cozy. the food was fine. nothing really special. i ordered the stuff egg plants (superb), crab fried rice (just ok), beef with peaches i think (weird combo but fine), and sesame chicken (skip that). Service was great and helpful, the prices was reasonable, but it's not somewhere i would go occassionally. more

One of My Top 5 Favorite Restaurants in Philly! 5/6/2005

I don't live in Philly anymore, but when I come back, I am sure to go to Mustard Greens at LEAST once per visit. I highly recommend the stir fried green beans. You are not going to want to share them! Pros: fresh, light food, good value for money, friendly service more

Unbelievable 5/27/2004

What can I say. This place has the best Chinese food I have ever tasted. General Tso = EXCELLENT. No dark meat, very tender, not greasy. Pros: Food, Inexpensive, Atmosphere more

Overpriced and unexciting 1/19/2004

This place tries to make chinese food a bit more upscale. The result is high prices and small portions. It might be worth it if the food was exceptional, but I found it to be rather bland. On the positive side, the service was excellent and the decor was modern. Good for someone looking for something a little different, but for good chinese food, stick with Chinatown. Pros: Decor, Service Cons: Value more

A Welcome Surprise 11/1/2003

To make this short and sweet, i love chinese food. Its my favorite kind of food to eat. Mustard Greens is the best I've eaten..ever. The dumplings were so incredibly delicious. The ambiance was wonderful, it was quiet (but not silent) and quite romantic. Unexpected bonus--excellent wine-the shiraz was great. Pros: Good Food, Good Wine, Attentive Service more
