Multnomah Falls not just about the falls 12/7/2008

Living most of my life in the Portland area, I have been to Multnomah Falls many time. I am still amazed as the massive water. But there's a lot of exploring to do behind the falls. After you've hiked to the bridge, keep going. There are miles of hiking trails, all beautiful and away from the crowds. The views from the trail are fabulous, looking out on the Columbia River Gorge. Also don't miss the falls in the winter. The spray forms ice all around the falls making it a true winter wonderland. You can pick up a map at the gift shop. Pros: beautiful natural setting, parking, hiking Cons: weekends are busy more

gorgeous but waayyyyyy tooo crowded 2/5/2008

This is one of the most beautiful places in the world -but its really not easy to experience the full effect when there are swarms of people everywhere- locals, busloads of tourists, and a suprising amount of employees standing around talking to each other or smoking cigarettes. I think you have to stop there at least once, but really the other falls on the historic highway are just as pretty and far less crowded. Dont forget to go all the way to Bonneville Dam and the Fish Hatchery before you haed back in to Portland though. The Hatchery in particular is really suprisingly beautiful, and theres lots more room to have a picnic and relax, even on the busiest days. Pros: gorgeous. Really- if you can see around the swarms of people. Cons: crowded. Really crowded. more

You just have to 7/10/2007

Multnomah Falls is just one of those things that you HAVE to do if your in the Portland area. I was so excited to go cause I had never been before. So we hiked up there (actually only like 5 min) but when we got there it was like, oh theres a water fall......ok lets go back down now. I actually had more fun in the gift shop :) Pros: It really is pretty Cons: It's just a waterfall more

Simply beautiful 11/21/2006

The Multnomah Falls are so beautifu. I especially enjoyed walking on the bridge over the falls because you can hear the falls roar below you. The trails are pretty good..and the view is priceless. Definately worth the trip!! Pros: Beautiful falls, good trails more

Multnomah Falls 9/29/2006

I was an accidental tourist. Made a wrong turn looking for gas off the beaten path. I alternated between cussing myself due to the needle on my gas gage pointing to EMPTY and breathlessly exclaming what a gorgeous camping area ""I had discovered"". I kept reassuring myself that the promised gas station would surely appear as I continued to drive up, up and up! ""Wow, I'll just have to come back this way when I have a full tank of gas. So much like Devil's Lake in Wisconsin!"" ""Oh no! Almost really sitting on EMPTY!"" Now down, down and down. There's the gas sign once again. Do I believe them this time or should I try for the freeway. Well worth the missed turns and anxiety over the empty gas tank! This was in the fall of 2004. I've ""accidently"" found myself there twice more. Pros: Breathtaking veiws. Cons: Parking more

Good place for Brunch 3/5/2006

This is a lovely place to have brunch at. Although it was raining the day that I went so I didn't do any hiking, the view of the falls from the dining room was breathtaking and the food was a good compliment. Pros: friendly staff, great view more

It made my heart skip a beat 10/26/2005

My Husband and I took a cross country road trip this summer for our anniversary and one of the stops we made was to Multnomah Falls. Words cannot describe the beauty. My Husband hiked all the way to the top and said it was nice but that the view wasn't any better from up there (I wimped out half way up!) We are from Chicago and were pleasantly surprised by all the beautiful waterfalls in the area but Multnomah was truely the most awesome! Pros: Beautiful Scenery, free, easily accessable Cons: Crowded more

BEAUTIFUL 4/20/2004

What else can be said about the tourist attraction? It is a great place to connect with nature and see a magnificent waterfall from different perspectives. There are multiple hiking trails ranging from .5 mile to almost 7 miles! Be prepared with food and water if you plan on going the long trip. Wear durable hiking shoes and take into account the elevation change as you get to the top of the falls. Pros: Free, Natural wonder, People watching Cons: , Parking more

A Site To See!!! 2/27/2003

Gorge-eous 10/11/2002

Great place, as of October 2002 the remodling and construction were done so there is now a wonderfull new all abilities acsess to the veiwing platform. A must see, 45 min from downtown. Locals go again and again and its a sure hit with out of town visitors. Pros: gorgeous Cons: can be crowded wknds more

Wow...... 10/11/2002

This attraction is well worth the short drive from Portland. However, the view from the top of the falls is NOT worth the mile hike up the mountain in my opinion. If you're into that sort of thing then it may be a lot of fun to hike their trails(and I hear that there are some REALLY pretty falls higher up). It's still worth the drive though! Pros: Free, VERY beautiful, nice day trip Cons: view from top of fall more

Beauty is a step away! 9/15/2002

The breathtaking slendor of multnomah Falls is a short 30 minute drive from downtown Portland. Whether it is a sunny day or gray, the falls are gorgeous. If you have time, I highly recommend hiking the trail to the top of the falls. There are benches along the way to stop, catch your breath and take in the views. For the seasoned hiker, stop in the gift shop and pick up a trail map. There are several trails of varying length around the falls. Pros: Easy to get to, Free, Lots of parking Cons: Does get crowded more

BEAUTIFUL!!! 9/11/2002

This is a beautiful place all year long. Hiking is great and the view is spectacular. I love to go hiking here as this is some place that you can do this by yourself. There are generally enough people around that I feel this is a safe place to hike alone. I think this is a good representation of Oregon's beautiful outdoors. more

Breathtakingly Beautiful 9/4/2002

Multnomah Falls is a gem. It encompasses the beauty of Northwest Oregon and costs absolutely nothing to experience. Pros: clean, Free Cons: Crowded at times more

Annual Trek 9/4/2002

A hike up to the top of Multnomah Falls was the first date for my boyfriend and me. We live in Washington and decided to make a trip down south to see what Oregon had to offer. When we arrived we were very amazed at the colors of the leaves and the beauty of the falls. After our first hike together (ever) up to the top, we stood in awe. I have to say that the trek was well worth it, and due to how much fun we had we have made a pack to go back every year and do the hike to once again kiss at the top and fall in love. Pros: friendly tourists, spectacular views, easy to find more

soothing scenery 8/16/2002

It is also a good workout, if you've decided to reach the top of the falls. more
